Breaking the boredom.

Getting rather bored a couple of weeks ago, my OH suggested a couple of days away to break the monotony. Looking on the internet we found a great priced place, just outside Scarborough. I though some of you might like to come along and see what we got up to.

This is Wrea Head Hall Country House Hotel

Built in 1881 as the home of Mr Ellis MP. It’s had a checkered past.

It is now once again privately owned and the present owners are trying to restore it to its former glory.

It’s set in over 250 acres..much of which has long since been built on, but some of the gardens still remain.

Our room was one of the more modest rooms available, but very pretty nevertheless.

Following a hearty breakfast and despite the bitter cold we set off to visit the coast. These lovely chaps were enjoying their breakfast as we drove past, so we stopped to say ‘Good morning’

The coastal inlet at Flamborough may have looked peaceful, but the wind skinned your face.

The Lighthouse still looks out to sea, but today is of course automatic.

We then turned inland and traveled to Brigg, where we visited Brigg Garden Centre.

With so much to tempt any gardener, it’s hardly surprising I succumbed. I ended up with a beautiful Hellebore Niger and a tray of Primroses 7 for £10.00. We also had a tasty lunch in the vast restaurant.
A great break. Thanks for joining us. Hope you enjoyed it too.

Lovely break, beautiful building. I go to Brigg GC quite a bit, the restaurant is quite special there. Lovely to see it on GoY. A couple of winters ago they had a lot of damage done by the heavy snow on the roof of the plant house, it has all been done over and cleared up again, looking good. Well worth a visit. :O)

You're so right Pamg, but my fav coastline, I hate the west coast (apologies to those of you who might live there.)

Oliveoil I'd no idea you lived anywhere near there. Would you be interested in meeting up over this way in April with some other GoY members?

Thank you Hywel. My OH knows to always include a visit to a GC, wherever we are lol!

Steragram; I'm hoping to have better luck with this one. In the past I've not been very successful growing them. I've put this one in a pot...so fingers crossed.

Thank you Paul and Louisa.

Bloomer I'd no idea you knew about this place when we were chatting the other day.

Very nice Waddy, I bet that has done you both a power of good, my brother lives near Scarborough so do visit most years and always think its lovely around there, I hate to go away and not bring myself a little something back for the garden so its always good to hear of a good GC near where we are.....

A lovely change of scene for you both. There is a lot to be said for it especially as the long winter comes to an end. I too love the garden centre and would not have been able to resist a small momento at least!
