Isola Madre An open garden in Lombardia

Lake Maggiore is a gardener's paradise. There are spectacular and interesting gardens to visit easily by boat. We preferred Isola Madre to its more famous sister - Isola Bella. It was less formal and had more flowers and plants to enjoy. It has its own microclimate and plants not hardy elsewhere grow happily there. Its setting of course is breathtaking.

Superb garden to visit, loved isola Bella too, and on Lake como the wonderful villa Carlotta!
