As we all know, here in the UK, depending in which part of the country we live, spring is either just around the corner or has already arrived,
I thought that, as it’s unlikely that anywhere is yet at the stage where there are chicks which have fledged, it would be nice to look forward in anticipation.
The first three pics are for Bonkers.

Mother Mallard getting a rest from the chicks by hiding in the grape hyacinths.

Here come the brood. No peace for the wicked.

Not sure if he’s a straggler or just more adventurous.

Hopefully mum or dad swan will be back soon.

Ok. It was here just now. Who stole the food?

I’m not daft. I’ll just wait for mum or dad. They’ll be back from the takeaway any time now.

Wait for me mum.

Happy family group of Herring gulls with young.

Thanks Jacque we all need to gear up for spring proper and the summer to follow. You'd have thought that at my age I could take it all in my stride but I get excited every year. A big kid really.

Me too Jacque. I pity the people who don't seem to notice or care. They miss so much.

Love the pictures of the mallards - they have hatched very early! I could watch mallard ducklings all day, just beautiful. They look a couple of weeks old too. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry Dawnsaunt I didn't want to deceive you. The picture of the ducks I took last year at Wisley, they are not this years'. Just a brief look at what is to come.
Bonkers.
I took the picture of the swans nest while on a day out at a zoo (can't remember which one as I visited a couple last year) so had no oportunity to follow up on progress.
Thanks to both of you for your nice comments.

Great blog Toto. Your photos are lovely. I can't wait for spring. Some of the birds around here are starting to pair up. The owls are calling like mad so I guess they are looking for mates too.
