Why do i bother?

Isn’t life trying sometimes.

The forcast for the last few days seemed most agreeable. Great thought i, although i no longer work full-time, it was nice to know that i had a few days off. Let’s go for some lovely long walks in some of our favourite places says the wife The first morning the sky was breaking ,( as forcast ) so i took it upon myself to take the time before we left to wipe down the u p v c on our kitchen extension.
I got the ladder out and proceeded to wipe the plastic cladding aswell. It was then i noticed that the lead flashing was coming away from the main house!
This will take a few hours to repair i said to my wife. Oh well she said, good job you noticed it now while the weather is good! A trip down to our local builder supplies and 3 or 4 hours later, job done.
Cleaning the mess up, i thought while i’m up here i will wipe the waste pipe from the bathroom sink down as it was looking rather grubby. WRONG!! it shattered in my hands. Once again down to the builders merchants and 2 hours later, job done. Needless to say – no walks!

Next morning, looking forward to a lovely walk again, while waiting for the weather to break, i decide to wash the car. An hour later and we are ready to go, only to find the back tyre on our car is flat with a nail sticking out of it!!
After a trip down the road to get repairs done and a lighter wallet, we had both gone right off of the idea for a walk!!

Now tired out and having to go back to work soon, i find myself asking WHY DO I BOTHER? Does anyone else get time in their lives when nothing goes right, or am i just not supposed to have time to myself?

Oh well enough moaning, at least the weather is on my side!! Lol!!!

You've had some jobs to tackle and a lighter wallet to prove it, Tiger. On the bright side...you are a good DIYer so cheer up...you've saved a lot of pennies being able to do most of the jobs yourself!

You bother because you care, Tiger. You'll get that walk soon :)

Now you have put it like that Whistonlass, i feel much better! You are right i'm glad i was able to do it myself, you hear of so many horror stories these days!

Someone once commented "how clever you are to do jobs and save money". I replied, If I was clever I would be able to afford to pay someone else to do it.
Your experience adds a whole new meaning to the phrase "A walk in the park"

I suppose i should be greatful that i am still able to do these repairs myself Heron. It's just so annoying sometimes when the weather tells you that you should be enjoying yourself! Just wish i was clever!! Lol.

I totally sympathise Tiger, I have lost count of the lovely Saturdays when I have taxied the children to riding/swimming/dancing etc only to find Sunday a washout. then its back to the daily grind Monday. and yes you've guessed it, another sunny day.
I was 'moaning' about this at work once when one of male colleagues said he knew how to solve the problem. foolishly I looked interested. His reply...
You need a wife!.

He almos needed a Dr :o)

When do things ever go right ? lol
Now I would have left the house alone and gone for a walk. I wouldn't have been able to do the repairs anyway. I'm just no good with things like that lol.

Next time I would go for the walk. You'll never finish all that needs doing to a house. Once one thing is done there will always be something else. It just goes on and on.
Next time I should go for the walk :o)

doesnt it remind you of a song:

Right Said Fred (Cup of Tea)
(Myles Rudge, lyrics & Ted Dicks, music)

"Right," said Tig, "Both of us together
One on each end and steady as we go."
Tried to shift it, couldn't even lift it
We was getting nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea and

"Right," said Tig, "Give a shout for wifee."
Up comes wifee from the floor below.
After strainin', heavin' and complainin'
We was getting nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea.

And Wifee had a think, and she thought we ought to take off all the handles
And the things wot held the candles.
But it did no good, well I never thought it would
"All right," said Tig, "Have to take the feet off
To get them feet off wouldn't take a mo."

Took its feet off, even took the seat off
Should have got us somewhere but no!
So Tig said, "Let's have a cuppa tea."
And we said, "right-o."

"Right," said Tig, "Have to take the door off
Need more space to shift the so-and-so."
Had bad twinges taking off the hinges
And it got us nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea and

"Right," said Tig, " Have to take the wall down,
That there wall is gonna have to go."
Took the wall down, even with it all down
We was getting nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea.

And Wifee had a think, and he said, "Look, Tig,
I get a sort of feelin'
If we remove the ceilin'
With a rope or two we could drop the blighter through."

"All right," said Tig, climbing up a ladder
With his crowbar gave a mighty blow.
Was he in trouble, half a ton of rubble landed on the top of his dome.
So Wifee and me had another cuppa tea
And then we went home.

(I said to Wifee, "We'll just have to leave it
Standing on the landing, that's all
Trouble with Tig is, he's too hasty
Never get nowhere if you're too hasty.")

(c)1962, by Myles Rudge (lyrics) & Ted Dicks (music)

i tried to change the lyrics to fit your circumstances but it was too hard ~ the original was too good
