Funny Faces in Stones

As with trees, I enjoy searching for and photographing ‘funny faces’ in stones, rocks and any other natural surfaces.
These were all taken this year (2014):-

Port Erin, Isle of Man

Port Erin, Isle of Man

Sandown, Isle of Wight

Port Erin, Isle of Man

Aberystwyth, Ceredigion

Here’s some that perhaps are not funny!

Cheddar Gorge, Somerset

Arundel, West Sussex

Alum Bay, Isle of Wight

Definitely spooky, although West Kennett Long Barrow, Wiltshire, where the photo was taken, actually had a nice atmosphere.

The following are stones that look like sculptures:-

‘Stiff upper lip’; Avebury stone circle, Wiltshire

‘Angel fish’; Avebury stone circle, Wiltshire

‘Merlin’; Avebury stone circle, Wiltshire

The strangest face of all was one that appeared on a huge, quartz stone, in the centre of a (roof-less) chambered cairn on Meayll Hill, Isle of Man thus:-

I just love these! You might be one of the few people who understands my urge to draw a smiley mouth under the switch on a light switch! Might be tempted to go for more cryptic expressions after seeing your stones.

If you are ever in Pembrokeshire go to Nolton Haven - there is an amazing silhouette on the rocks there that looks like seven different faces depending on where you stand.

Oh yes the sort I wouldn't want to be around as the sun was going down, I do not delve into these things until safely back inside my own four walls, have a vivid imagination at the best of times and someplaces give me the creeps, lol, I too have a fascination for such things and often see shapes that others can't, thankyou for sharing with us....

I've put Nolton Haven in my diary for next year.
I've seen faces in Magnum's ice creams....they're called 'Double Cannibals'. Ha Ha!

Let me know when you go to Nolton, its only a few miles from us here. I have a tree face you might like - will put on a blog for you.

I enjoyed your blog very much and fun to see the different rock formations. Reminds me of the humanoid rock formation in the planet Mars.
