You have heard of the bridges of Paris, and those of Venice and even those of London…but how about the Bridges of Bath ladies and gentlemen!

Bet most of you never knew they were there, not did you?

You're right I didn't though I've been there. Thanks for showing us they're beautiful.

at the back of Sydney Gardens, Heron, tho the gardens arent a patch on what they used to be..shame..

How really lovely. Last time I was in Bath it was the hottest day of the year. The weather here is miserable too.

26 Oct, 2010

Well, as you can see Linda, the weather stayed dry for our little trip lol!

26 Oct, 2010

26 Oct, 2010

I love these bridges Tetra, great photos and each one so different. Thanks.

I've not visited Bath since 1973 on my first trip with newish hubby (married in1971) to meet the in-laws! We were living in Canada at that time. We visited Bath on that occasion but I can't remember a lot except I found the architecture very interesting.

I like the walkway and the bridges along the river/canal. It looks nicely relaxing and peaceful in the midst of a very busy city.

Only been to Bath once, a long time ago, would love to go again, your photo`s are lovely and have brought back my memories of a fabulous place, thanks Tetrarch....

26 Oct, 2010

lol we do nowthanks feel another rd trip comeing on

26 Oct, 2010

We have been to Bath, but didn`t see the Bridges, we did get talking to an artist who was sketching all the shoe scrapes outside of the houses, he had found 167 different designs and was catalogueing them for posterity.

How fascinating Stroller. A work of love and dedication. I wonder if he published them.

26 Oct, 2010

I did not know :((( Beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing :))))

26 Oct, 2010

Glad you all enjoyed. It was a lovely peaceful walk. Not many people around!

Well Jacquie if ever you go again, there is a wonderful GC there!! lol

26 Oct, 2010

I only went to Bath once, but I distinctly remember a student outside the cathedral/abbey/church playing a recorder. It was Baroque music, and he was outstanding.

26 Oct, 2010

There are lots of this sort of thing in and around the abbey and assembly rooms Jasonf. Some very talented people, ranging from musicians to fire eaters. The entertainment is usually first class and there are seats to sit and enjoy..and a very handy camera shop there as well as cafes!

26 Oct, 2010

Well M...I'd like very much to get down to that neck of the woods. We had a rental car and went through Devon, Somerset, Yorkshire, Lancashire....lovely memories but they are very distant now....so many years ago!

A good GC, cafes and street entertainment sounds lovely.

26 Oct, 2010

Come on a warm weekend (you know, one of those ahem! weekends lol) in spring. Will meet you there and we can go to the GC together! OH's can come too if they like (mine probly will, just to control my spending..just as if!)

26 Oct, 2010

lol.....yes, they do like to exercise control on the finances...well they try! lol There just might be a chance we will get that way in spring....seems a long winter to get through though! :(

26 Oct, 2010

Considering my brother was at school in Bath never saw a bridge......too much time spent checking out the boys at his school lol.....enjoyed the pics, next time we are up that way will look out for them (too old to eye up the boys now)

26 Oct, 2010

You're never too old! ;o)

27 Oct, 2010

Lovely, brings back memories :-))

27 Oct, 2010

Never say die, Daisy, toy boys are all the rage lol!! Still, better the devil you know and, like you, dont want to swap my "devil"!!
Now, Grindle, thats a provocative statement..mmmm

Sorry folks, Im in my wicked mood today...

27 Oct, 2010

I'm minded of the Boddingtons advert. Grindle in a 'Cotswold gondoler' being punted along by a handsome Bristolian, supping a pint of 'Boddies' wiping a mix of lippy and froth saying "by ek that tastes right good" :-)))

27 Oct, 2010

It's seriously dark dreary and damp here near London today. I enjoyed the walk by the canal with the pretty bridges Tetrarch. What trouble they took in those times to give the bargees and the horses a lovely view to enjoy as they wandered along. I hope the ladies put on their pattens to stroll along the towpath for a healthy walk too. Not a lot of us who have visited Bath seem to have discovered these treasures

27 Oct, 2010

Bath is a National treasure - I love it there (Except the parking! LOL) We even spent our honeymoon in Bath umpty-ump years ago. It's a beautiful city. Thanks, Tetra. Lovely to see those bridges. :-))

27 Oct, 2010

LOL and singing Oh, Oh, My Romeo...lol! Sorry Grindle...irresistible!

27 Oct, 2010

Tetra you have the devil in you today.......

27 Oct, 2010

I know Daisy..its my best friends birthday today and I have thoroughly enjoyed parcelling up all the little bits and pieces I have collected for her over the year to make up a goody bag. She does this for me too and we have such fun opening up the parcels whether its her or me. So Im in a giggly mood!

27 Oct, 2010

You share the same distinction as royalty then Spritz. Princess Margaret spent her honeymoon in Bath as well..at Jeremy Fry's place..the prettiest little mansion which I covet, tucked away where you would never think to look..I will post a picture. Its not open to the public tho..Im not totally sure but I have a feeling it might be apartments now..such a shame if it is, cos it really is a jewel..

27 Oct, 2010

Little birthday parcels of all sorts sounds a nice present for your friend. I hope you both enjoyed celebrating her special day, M. Giggle on.....sure beats being miserable any day! :)

27 Oct, 2010

This really takes me back to my last visit to Bath. We went on a boat tour and I saw my first Kingfisher....wow. I just love the city. Oh, I hope I get to go again some day! Lovely blog, thank you!

27 Oct, 2010

You are welcome Karen and everyone. Enjoyed sharing them with you. Grindle, are you still speaking to me???

27 Oct, 2010

Bath looks like a very nice place. Is it too posh for us northerners to visit?

27 Oct, 2010

Im sooooo tempted GD!

27 Oct, 2010

Geraniumdad....definitely!!...unless you're from Harrogate of course!! lol ;)) p.s. I can say this and get away with it because I was born in Rotherham and live in Scotland!!

27 Oct, 2010

Bath is one of my favourite places, and we have visited it several times. We always have lunch or tea in the pump rooms and listen to the music, imagining we are back in the times of Jane Austen! :)

27 Oct, 2010

Well, I think I will have to do a bridge tour of my home town: Kingston Upon Hull.
The wildlife in parts of the city is something else........

27 Oct, 2010

lol...I bet!! Seriously though, I hope you get to Bath one day, it is definitely not to be missed!

27 Oct, 2010

Dont see why not GD, I bet you could get some amazing shots. There's always beauty in every city, its just sometimes we are in too much of a hurry to look!

27 Oct, 2010

To be honest, we have some very old bridges across the River Hull and some not so nice looking new ones. I will get out and about in the next couple of weeks and see how many I can photograph.

Bath does look really nice: just been looking at some photos on tinternet. Another place to add to my 'Places to visit' list.

27 Oct, 2010

Bristol does not have that many bridges, but we got the best one in the UK!

27 Oct, 2010

Definately!
We will be having a pedestrian swing bridge with a cafe on it (!). It should be opening next year. The idea is that you can stay in the cafe and drink your tea or whatever, and what the river traffic go up and down all day. And you can experience the movement of the bridge when it swings open to let the barges etc through.......
The excitement is killing me.....

27 Oct, 2010

LOL yes, but sad to say nothing like that, not with 2 young boys in tow :-))

28 Oct, 2010

I grew up with swing bridges across the Manchester ship canal at Stockton heath in Cheshire, Walton, Moore and Latchford. Plus an impressive 'cantilever' and a very muscular, down to earth railway, bridge at Grappenhall. All within easy reach of us wandering children on our bikes. Plus oodles of bridges over the bridge water canal north of the village. None so pretty as the Bath bridges. A legacy of a less pretty age than The Regency.

28 Oct, 2010

What beautiful bridges. I've seen lots of photos of Bath but never these. Pitty they are so hidden away.

1 Nov, 2010

They didnt used to be Hywel, its just that Sydney Gardens sort of fell out of favour over many years and it really is a shame. There is a fair bit going for it, yet its just a bit boring when you go in, so people dont always get to the bridges which are "at the back" so to speak. The Holborn Museum is at the Front on the main A36 road, but the whole thing is surrounded by traffic and trains now.

1 Nov, 2010

Pitty how places alter over the years ..

2 Nov, 2010

Just looked again at this, and added it to my favs now :o) I love those bridges.

12 Jan, 2011

The workmanship in those days was so..so..dedicated I think the word is Hywel..labour was cheap and people poor, but they took pride in what they did..and I would guess, some didnt begrudge the unpaid overtime..not that Im saying they werent poorly paid..they just must have had some personal pride in what they did.

Mind you, now the money has spread around a little better, we cant afford to build these beautiful things..but I reckon thats why we notice nature more and tend our gardens..the beauty is now there. Im so glad they gave you pleasure Hywel.

12 Jan, 2011

I think old things - buildings furniture china etc have more character than modern ones. Maybe it's because they are old and have tales they could tell. I find them a bit mysterious lol

13 Jan, 2011

Oh yes Hywel! Just think, a roman coin..possibly owned by a Roman Legionnaire, marching up north to Hadrian's wall, dreaming of warm sunny Italy, but shivering in our cold wet climate! Or a Saxon ring worn by a girl with long flaxen plaits, or a plate at the dining table in the Royal Pavilion, listening to the excesses of the Prince Regent, a bed slept in by Elizabeth 1 (apparently they used to sleep sitting up!)...you are soo right..

13 Jan, 2011

I slept sitting up last night - due to an upset stomach - lol not very comfortable. I couldn't do it all the time.
I wonder why they slept like that ?

13 Jan, 2011

Possibly for the same reason Hywel lol! Altho Im sorry you were poorly. But I would hazard a guess Elizabeth 1 didnt want to appear vulnerable, but queenly at all times! Many reasons are given, but its said the practice was still around in the early 20th century! As you said...fascinating to speculate on what old things could tell us.

13 Jan, 2011

Tetra, I have lived 8 miles from Bath for the last 28 years and have never even come across these spectacular bridges...what a wonderful blog, and you have opened my eyes...thank you so much...\0/

27 Jan, 2011

You're very welcome Flori..isnt it nice to discover some hidden treasure on your doorstep..we may find a few more this summer, who knows? The UK is incomparable for treasures of this sort..
