When do you know Christmas is over? ;o)

We know Christmas is over when…

….we start to use our lovely gift of secateurs….

…but…
….we realise we ate far too much Xmas millet…..

…and…
..there are wrappings and ribbons everywhere….

…but..
….we can play all day with our rope toy Christmas gift…

…and…
we have a new snow theme doggie place mat…

…on which we eat our meals with extra speed…

..then, too soon our Christmas dinner is all gone…

……………………………………………………………………………

BUT…..finally…..
….we know Christmas is over when….

…the only gardening theme TV shows for the coming week are..

Wallace and Gromit rescuing plasticine vegetables..

…and …

a new two-part series: The Day of the Triffids….

What’s your story ?

We know Christmas is over when……

Christmas is over when all the family has gone back home, the roast is just a pile of scraps, the garbage can is full to overflowing with cast off wrappings and ribbons and you step on the bathroom scale!! LOL.

26 Dec, 2009

Oh, Seaburngirl...

After indulging in richer foods than usually eaten....For me it's when we want a light meal...salad or even something on toast!

26 Dec, 2009

Hi Pottygardener...
Yes, plain meals can be quite welcome after too much rich food !

26 Dec, 2009

for me probably when I will give up fixing my christmas tree - Masha has got different ideas about decorations - I like them on the tree - she likes them on the floor - and when a tree is on the floor it is at its best, haha... so for now I just straighten it up, put back decorations.. will see who gives up first, haha...

26 Dec, 2009

ha ha, Kasia.... that's quite a competition between you and Masha...
I'm thinking Masha could be the winner...ha ha ha :o)

Now why is that ???

27 Dec, 2009

Christmas is over when the kites have a turkey feast - and there's finally something halfway decent to watch on tv without dragging out videos of old garden programmes. :-)))

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year so we can begin all over.

Hi Mushy..Exactly...Crocus the budgie got too festive and ate extra millet...
...not a problem...
...he used up extra calories today, running up and down his perch, bashing his "pastry brush" toy :o)

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Lujean...
Thought I would give you a separate answer...
How lovely that you are Christmassy all year long...

I'm pleased you like the pics. of my pets.

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Terra.Used to think it was over when advertisers stopped telling me I needed a new kitchen, bed or sofa ! Lol...But now cannot tell as they seem to seem to be at it all year !! Grrr !

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Jane/BB....
TV advertisers are back asking us to compare the Meerkats, so that must be good news.. ;o)

27 Dec, 2009

Yes...but quite hohestly just hate the way certain sofa adverts tell us "Hurry, sale ends Boxing Day " Then Boxing Day comes and another sale starts ! On and on throughout the year ! Lol ! Moan over ! x

27 Dec, 2009

Lovely blog, Tt, and gr8 pics of everyone enjoying Christmas! :-))

For me, Christmas only really starts on Christmas Eve, when I can play "Santa". At around midnight, with the children fast asleep, I could finally sneak upstairs and fill the stockings hanging on their bed-ends, and arrange the parcels around the tree, all whilst firing up the oven and hob, and baking turkey and glazed ham, setting the table, etc (all helped along with some quiet background music and a glass or 2 (or 3?) of some liquid festive cheer (of course). All done by 4.00am - so could finally get to bed!! (wouldn't not do this, for anything in the world, however!).

Usually, for me, it would all have ended by Boxing Day, when I start to go through my packs of seeds, and wish I could fast-forward to March! (I detest "New Year", which may sound dreadful coming from a Scotsman, lol!). But, having the snow this year has extended Christmas. Have just come home from yet another bout of sledging in the park after dark - gr8 fun! It's just a few yards from the door, and well-lit with street lamps. Yes, it's still Christmas here - Ho Ho Ho!!!! :-)) XXX

27 Dec, 2009

Lovely to read how you spend Christmas Eve, David....and gr8 that Eilidh and James are enjoying the snow.... and their Dad...lol.

and hohoho.... do you think Jane in comment above is still merrymaking with a bit of hohoho...
check out hohestly..LOL..
but, Jane, yes I do know what you mean about the sofa ads... sales suddenly get extended for another month...or two...or three ....;o)

David...to help you fast-forward to March...I've recently put three puzzle blogs on GoY....crossword and two plant quizzes... and I've threatened to make a 4th blog quiz for new year....ho ho ho. xxx

27 Dec, 2009

Oh Dear Terra...finger slipped ! Well you know how close the n and h are ! Lol !

27 Dec, 2009

Ho Ho Ho, Tt!!!! Will check out the quizzes real soon (Gr8!!!!!). Is the 4th quiz blog a mild threat, or a serious promise???????

Can't comment, as haven't watched lousy TV for years (honestly). Seems to be still the same old round of endless sales and summer hols, however. My advice? Chuck the TV out of the nearest window and crack open another bottle! Ho Ho Ho!!!!!

Wow! I just "came to", and thought it was March!! heard the word "spring" in my subconsciousness (did I spell that proper???). Then realised that the TV was on in backgound - yet another "buy your new bed now" advert!!! Ho Ho Ho! - X

27 Dec, 2009

Lol. Jane....
I'm still wondering if you've been enjoying a glass of David's "liquid festive cheer"..Lol. :o)

27 Dec, 2009

They drive me mad David !!! Pass that bottle quick before BB wants some too LOL.Terra..first of the day....honeshht !

27 Dec, 2009

Hi again David...
TV has been disappointing over the holidays to say the least....

My most recent blog quiz... Below the Snow... was supposed go onto GoY on Boxing Day at the earliest.... but I accidentally pressed PUBLISH on Christmas morning..... never mind...

...yes... I do have an idea for a 4th quiz.... so a mild promise AND a serious threat...Lol. ho ho ho... :o)

27 Dec, 2009

OMG talk about comments getting out of sync....hohoho

Jane/BB
.... think I better ease up on these liqueueueueueur chocolates...Lol.

27 Dec, 2009

Oh that sounds like Davids favourite tipple getting drunk on chocolate !Lol ! Ho Ho Ho !

27 Dec, 2009

Jane...you are so right...
I reckon David and I could make very short work of a BIG BOX of liqueueueueueur chocs.....
How's that for a challenge, David ? ;o)

27 Dec, 2009

Lol..David is busy doing the quizzes at the moment Terra,so dont encourage him with that challenge right now !!

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Jane.... waiting for you to pm me those quiz answers... so that your name can go on the roll of honour at the top of the quiz blog ! :o)

27 Dec, 2009

I need a clue Terra...is there an "and " inbetween each name ie is the second name 7 letters or 10 !

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Jane... the answers fit in the green boxes on my blog # 38...
...i.e. one name is 6 letters and the other name is 10 letters....
... Sorry, I should have made that clearer....!

27 Dec, 2009

Thanks..Bb and I are still stuck on two clues so will keep trying and get back to you !

27 Dec, 2009

Thank you. x

27 Dec, 2009

YES ! YES ! Got it Terra !!! Lol silly us were looking for 7 letter words ! Off to pm answers right now !!!

27 Dec, 2009

Oooh... exciting :o)

27 Dec, 2009

I know Christmas is over when we finally finish all the food and drink I over-bought. I'll have to have the family around a few more times to help out! I'm looking forward to having the time to do your quiz, I did have a sneak look, but I think I'll have to consult one of my books for one or two of them, my little grey cells could do with a workout :-) Lovely pics Tt:-)

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Bornagain...
I should have put all my three quiz blogs on GoY a few days AFTER Christmas....
...never mind... they are still there for anyone wanting to try them...
... Yes, please do have a try when you get some spare moments...

Glad you like the photos....
... good luck with finishing all the food and drink ;o)

27 Dec, 2009

...........when I can see the inside of the back of the fridge.
...........when the Gaviscon can go back in the cupboard.
...........when I start getting those annoying 'silent' phone calls
from call centres again. :o(((

27 Dec, 2009

Christmas isn't over until I've found all those little presents I bought earlier in the year but couldn't find when I wanted to wrap them!!

Looks like you had a good Christmas, TT, and Conker and Truffle certainly did! Chloe enjoyed herself and tried to open all the presents regardless of who they belonged to. First time she has been so active for ages so it was lovely to see. Poppy has laid 3 eggs now, she seems to be laying one every third day!

Why are your blogs a different layout to those of everyone else? Or is it just on my computer :)

27 Dec, 2009

Hi Terra Christmas is over when I sigh with relief my family enjoyed our get together, no more worrying who Ive not sent Christmas Cards to, but most of all I can slip into something comfortable , stretch out on the sofa in my PJs with a glass of wine and just RELAXXXXXXXXX. PS love your lovely xmas pictures of Conker, and Truffle.

27 Dec, 2009

Hello Gee....
Yes, that's a good point about those little presents we bought earlier in the year and then we can't find. I usually put those tiny gifts away for the following Christmas... but then, as the next Christmas approaches , I lose them again.LOL.

Yes, thanks. We had a good Christmas, and I'm so pleased Chloe was enjoying herself, opening everyone's presents.. I hope Poppy keeps fit, despite the egg-laying....

Re.my blogs... I've been experimenting with different fonts, but can't give you much more of an answer at the moment because my drafts often look very different to the published version... Some HUGE print appeared in one of my recent blogs.... I managed to alter it, but am still working out how I created those extra large letters.... fascinating :o)

28 Dec, 2009

Hello Lily...
Excellent answers... Lol.

...good luck with the fridge....
..you might need satnav to reach the back.. :o)

28 Dec, 2009

Hi Pansypotter ~
Sounds like you have perfected the art of relaxxxxxxxxxxxing !
Yes, thanks... Conker and Truffle are still enjoying their Christmas presents. :o)

28 Dec, 2009

:))))))) can't imagine TT

28 Dec, 2009

Morning Grindle...
Gardening forever, housework whenever..Lol.

28 Dec, 2009

LOL TT.........

28 Dec, 2009

:o)

28 Dec, 2009

I know the season of goodwill is over Tt, now my team (Grays Ath) have been smashed by Crawley town at home!!! Any Christmas spirit I had left had gone within 6 minutes of the start by which time Grays were 3 down!!!!
I'll have to go in the garden tomorrow and kick a few plants to vent my frustration!

28 Dec, 2009

Paul...it's supposed to be the taking part that matters....
not the final score...LOL...
Why not be selective... kick the weeds.... ;o)

28 Dec, 2009

MY TEAM DIDN'T TAKE PART Tt, WELL NOT TILL THEY WERE 3 DOWN, THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!!!!!
WEEDS, are you suggesting I have some of the aforementioned in my garden????????
I have selective vision, ....don't look at them!!

28 Dec, 2009

errrr.... so what was the final score ? ;o)

28 Dec, 2009

2-3 but the other team had it won within 6 minutes of starting so they just sat back and defended after that!

28 Dec, 2009

okay....that settles it...
... for you...Christmas is definitely over ... Lol

28 Dec, 2009

Trouble is, there's a game on New Year's day as well. I'm a glutton for punishment

28 Dec, 2009

Hubby has already gone back to work, grandchildren have been arguing most of the day, xmas tree has been knocked over twice today and I am fed up of rich food ,christmas is going fast.........

28 Dec, 2009

Okay...
this blog could be turning into the therapy blog...
...LOL.

Paul... Grays Ath.. has a new year resolution...
... win every match in 2010...

Lincslass... put Brynner in charge of tree and grandchildren...
...then all will be well ;o)

28 Dec, 2009

Caspar knocked tree down this morning and Brynner and grandson this afternoon Terra, I`m determined to keep it in place until 2nd of Jan.,I`ll just keep redecorating and counting to 20 lol.......Actually we did have a nice xmas but I always eat too much then yearn for normal meals, its part of my xmas traditions.......LOL...

28 Dec, 2009

Well I know most resolutions aren't kept for long but I can guarantee Grays Ath's won't make it past the first day of 2010 !!!!

28 Dec, 2009

Christmas won't be over for us until after the 6th January. The feast of the Three Kings is when the Spanish festivities kick in. The children here get a small gift on Christmas Eve and most adults are back at work on Boxing Day. We had Spanish Children carol singing on Boxing Day and the day after too!
We did have the inevitable 'Turkey' curry yesterday, so most of the goodies are getting eaten except the Christmas Cake which we haven't even cut yet!!
Lovely to be able to get out for a decent walk though, the snow has gone from the top of the mountains behind Benidorm so it's warming up again fast - todays forecast 19c.
Very few holiday ads on the TV this year - perhaps you have to sell your 'unwanted gold' to afford a holiday in 2010 !
Chris xx

29 Dec, 2009

Hi Lincslass...
Your house sounds like a riot of entertainment... Caspar, Brynner and your grandson keeping you on your toes..LOL. It seems we all eat extra food at Christmas... and unfamiliar items too.... :o(

Paul... we shall be waiting on this blog with bated breath... to hear how Grays Ath's performed at their new year match....;o)

Hello Chris...
I like reading your descriptions of the traditions and weather in Spain. Lots more snow forecast for Britain over the coming days ! xxx

29 Dec, 2009

Hi Terra,

I know Christmas is over when it`s time to start looking for a new doggy! Also when the decent dramas are being shown on TV. A very Happy New Year to you and your family. Please give the dogs a pat from me. :o)

Sandra xx

30 Dec, 2009

Hi Sandra..
Yes, some strange programmes on TV this week !
Wishing you lots of happiness in 2010....
... with a new doggie. xxx

31 Dec, 2009

Mine is over when i get so fed up of christmas cards falling off shelves or off the holder, and there is dust on the baubles time to take the tree down me thinks!!!!

1 Jan, 2010

Hi Skilla...
Yes, when the decorations start getting weighed down with the dust...
...that must be a sign..:o)

1 Jan, 2010

You need bate your breath any longer, Tt. I can report normal service resumed. Lost 3-0 at home!!!!!!!

1 Jan, 2010

Hi Paul...
0-3.... :o( disappointing...
It seems Grays will be working up to a crescendo for the end of the season when they'll win 6-0 :o)

1 Jan, 2010

Lovely blog

1 Jan, 2010

Thank you, Rkalyan.

2 Jan, 2010

I think they will be relegated well before the end of the serason Tt. I got a little bit of stick from some of the youngsters in the crowd when I got my white handkerrchief out and waved it in surrender half way through the second half. Well, that's how it felt that our team just surrender. And we've got a big name manager(Julian Dicks who played for West Ham and Liverpool) but he really doesn't seem to have a clue..You'd think he'd picked something up during his many years in football but he certainly doesn't know how to get the most out of his players, that's for sure!!!!

2 Jan, 2010

Hi Paul.... Good luck for Grays at the next game :o)

4 Jan, 2010

Hello Tt, yes another one on Saturday and maybe my mate and I will go to Kidderminster the following Saturday.Yes I know I must be bonkers!
Talking of people who are bonkers, Graeme agreed to me putting some video of him on Youtube. I think he likes to have something to show venues if they are thinking of booking him.

4 Jan, 2010

I see Fenclare, that your Spanish traditions are very similar to our Italian ones - our festive season is also well and truly over, now that the Befana has made her much awaited visit - she is an old woman who delivers gifts to children throughout Italy on Epiphany Eve. The churches are all busy dismantling their elaborate Nativity Cribs - some of which are real works of art. I know it's a cliche to think that lots of people have forgotten what all the Christmas celebrations are really about - - -

7 Jan, 2010

I know Christmas is over when it's miserable , cold , snowy and we can't get out!!!!!! And the plants are all broken ,squashed and shrivelled. That's my January whinge out of the way. I feel better now.

7 Jan, 2010

Well done Paul...you speak for many of us :o)

Hi Terry60 ~
yes, I can imagine many Spanish and Italian traditions being similar :o)
