GoY .. log in page insecure ?

Hi to those who comment on my blogs …

I would appreciate your thoughts .. please see below …

When I log in to GoY, I am warned that the GoY log in page is insecure..

I’d also like an explanation about this GoY insecure log in page from the GoY management team but I doubt they are available…

thanks…

I hope to be back on GoY more regularly soon

That's strange, Terra, I keep Growsonyou in my Favourites list and simply click on to that, thereby never log-in so I can't help at all! Sorry .....

I find it strange too,Terra..and I also just click on Goy in my Favourites list,so ,like Shirley,I never log in or out either..I hope the problem gets sorted for you soon....

12 May, 2017

No, I've never seen this either. Sorry...very off-putting!

12 May, 2017

No Terra I have not seen this, hope you get it sorted soon.

12 May, 2017

Nor me Terratoonie I ve even just logged out then back in to check for you its not on my page at all.

I think I understand what's going on. The "message" isn't talking about the GoY page. Your internet connection is not secured. A third party can monitor your internet activity. This is how passwords & personal information are stolen. Public servers and internet cafes are hot spots for nefarious activity. You should consult your internet provider.

This warning looks like a phishing scam. Press on the " learn more" is more likely to lead to ways to get your password or other info. Looks very official to get you to take the bait. Note how the warning is placed over you password entry box with instructions on how to remove it's

Thanks Shirley, Bloomer, Karen and Callie ...
I, too have GoY as a favourite, so can just click to enter, but occasionally I am also asked to log in. It seems to happen when I haven't visited GoY for a few days.

3d : thank you for logging out and then in again to check for me... very kind.

Bathgate and Loosestrife2 ...
thanks for your thoughts .. very sensible logic ..
In my case I access the internet on laptop only, in my house, which is not near any internet cafes etc. .. and I have security systems and malware fighters etc. programmed into my laptop to prevent intrusion.

I do feel reassured that none of you who've read this have found any similar warnings when you log in to GoY, so the site is presumably secure. Thank you.

Good luck with sorting this out, Terra. What a relief that we have some experts on here to give advice!

I started getting this message about a month ago warning that this website was insecure and my password could be used. It has red line through padlock as above. I have nothing to hide on Goy so wasn't bothered. I too never log out but bought a new laptop and am still going between the two. Because of this I have to log in now to Goy everytime as it sees this login coming from different places I assume.

Morning Terra, I messaged our daughter (our IT Support lady!) about this problem and here's what she wrote back:

Could be a number of problems (but not limited to) the antivirus or anti malware software you are using.
A security certificate that has not been updated by GoY (less likely if no-one else is getting this message).

A glitch between the security certificate and the internet browser you are using (fairly likely if you are using Firefox).

Running a security scan in the first instance is probably wise.

Terra, none of that makes any sense to me, being such a non-techie, but hope it may help you!

13 May, 2017

It would make sense if its a phishing scam too.

13 May, 2017

Thanks for today's comments ..
I find that shortly after I've been on GoY I get alerted to do a scan.. for problems with privacy issues, registry errors, junk files, shortcut errors, registry fragments, disk errors and security holes....
I've just carried out a repair because summary was Security : Bad, Performance : Medium, Stability : Bad.

So I do still worry about the safety of GoY ... I don't get such immediate problems after being on facebook... the only way to bring this to the attention of GoY management would be if EVERYONE flags this blog, because I know that the more flags, the more likely it is that management will look at the problem !

13 May, 2017

Ok then Terra ... about to flag you ... ha ha! :o)

13 May, 2017

Thanks, Shirley ... I hope everyone will flag... I was told by Peter some years ago that the more a post is flagged, the more quickly the GoY management will be alerted to it !

13 May, 2017

I haven't had any of the messages that you are getting Terra either, but in my email account, I am getting a lot of emails telling me that my PayPal account and Apple and Google accounts are insecure, but I just delete without opening as I don't have PayPal or Apple accounts. Getting more the last couple of months then ever.

I will flag as well but on tick box, what should I tick? Jen

13 May, 2017

Hi Jen.. thanks...
I've just flagged my own blog.. ha ha ..
I ticked Wrong Category... seemed as appropriate as any.. ha ha and I left this comment...
Please check GoY security for logging in and then comment on this blog... urgent.. thank you.

By the way, when we flag a blog, it warns us to cease commenting on the blog, but that doesn't apply to this blog. Thank you again.

13 May, 2017

Hi Terra, have just done it. Hope it helps and keeps us all sercure!

13 May, 2017

Thanks Jen .. I would just like to be reassured by the GoY owners that GoY is safe to access for everyone. Currently I don't feel confident about security.

13 May, 2017

Don't blame you, what with everything that happened on Friday around the world. They said on news this morning that due to the low amount asked for in ransoms ie ยฃ300, that it was targeted at small companys and people but got the NHS due to lack of security.

13 May, 2017

I often get this message too. I changed my password but it doesn't seem to have made any difference so I just ignore it now. However I have flagged it now Terra.
I'm also getting Member Deleted messages still, which are incorrect.

13 May, 2017

Jen and Stera .. thanks for flagging ... let's hope we get some answers... yes, recent worldwide events prove that internet security is vital.

I know a state government IT specialist who says that these attacks are attempted every day and come in tidal waves so eventually a sapper type software will breach the defensive software wall allowing the malware to pour through. They have methods to warn state employees of breaches on an individual basis to minimize the damage. But for John Q. Public there is no such personal watchdog. May I suggest that if you get a message in your email that you don't recognize or get some kind of warning from your bank or pharmacy (yes pharmacy) don't open it, rather make a note of the subject and call to see if it is a valid email otherwise erase it. If you get a warning such as described by Terratoonie the best thing to do is to immediately go to your "settings" icon and choose your web browser settings and find "clear history and website data" hit that and anything that came up on your website will be dumped; just to say that I have done this many times. Then you can re-enter GOY or anything else you were on with the slate wiped clean. It's a bit of additional work you didn't expect to do with your automatic malware protection but these malware notices are mimicking your personal anti-malware alarms so well that it is getting impossible to tell the difference. It's like coming upon a fork in the road and you see a warning sign with the message" Bridge Out" and an arrow pointing left only the malware turns the arrow around to the right. What happens then if you follow what you were told is the good way to go? Kerplunk! The days of assurance that you are protected from these attacks are gone.

13 May, 2017

Loose - I do that every other day regardless because sometimes malware comes in through pop ups or phony hyperlinks and sometimes the maleware files are invisible.

Useful information from Loosestrife2 and Bathgate...
thank you both for interesting contributions to this thread.

13 May, 2017

Flagged it Terra. :)

13 May, 2017

Thanks Karen... we need reassurance that the site is secure...

13 May, 2017

Also flagged this Terra..and ticked 'Wrong Category' as you did...x

13 May, 2017

Thanks Bloomer ... we all await a comment from GoY management, explaining whether GoY is secure. x

13 May, 2017

When looking on here the "i" sign when pressed says connection not secure. I have just looked again at the message and it says " This website does not supply ownership information" and "Connection not encrypted"

13 May, 2017

Flagged Terra.

I've not come across this but I tend to log in via my tablet which has different security to the laptops. Hopefully management will give you/us an answer. Thanks for bringing it up.

13 May, 2017

Thanks Thorneyside and Samjp for your input to this blog, and for flagging to bring the problem to the attention of GoY Management.

Today I've received a private message from Dave [GoY Management] saying he does not think there's anything wrong with the GoY log-in, but he is going to check with Peter [GoY founder].

I'll add another comment after I see Peter's response.
Thanks again to everyone for your support in making sure we keep GoY secure.

Flagged it Terra

14 May, 2017

Thank you Callie1914.

Flagged for you Terra, I've only just managed to sort my problems out, still not sure how I solved it, more trial and error and stumbling through, hoping I can post properly again now without getting frozen out, comments disappearing and also having to log back in any time I change pages or try to comment, it was driving me stupid....

I'm flagging it as well Tt ........x

16 May, 2017

Thanks Sue and Amy ...
let's hope all is well with GoY x

I have only this moment seen this blog of yours, TT. As I saw the same message when I logged in I doubt it has anything to do with GoY. I NEVER stay logged in to any site ever! As soon as my browser closes EVERYTHING is deleted - the only way to stay really secure! I also use a password manager to login on any site I need to & use 2 step verification with my email accounts.

My wife thinks I'm paranoid about security but in the 15 years we've had computers we only had a DOS attack once & that must have scared me so much I have never, ever had any security problems since! I never pay for antivirus programmes but use the free ones on line. I was able to download fully functional programme for 30 days trail after which I uninstalled it & downloaded it again the following month! I did this for a couple of years till I made a mistake in uninstalling it once & now can never get it to reinstall.

I have used many different programmes over these 15 years & have never had any problems at all.

I am waiting for the banks to get a massive hit with malware and everything to freeze up. That'll be a party. Could keep some cash under the bed....but....had some relatives(two old maid sisters who lived together and owned an embroidery factory) who got burned in the 1929 bank closures so they kept cash underneath the bed. One day they hired an odd job man to do some inside work in their home. You guessed it, the box underneath the bed was gone with Mr. Fixit. Both he and the money were never to be seen again. In the box was over $100,000 cash USA. Only this resulted in two robberies for when they reported the first robbery to the police there came to pass two knocks on their front door ...first the police and then the other knock which came from the second robbers, the Internal Revenue Service for them keeping unreported cash:(

Loose. Oh your poor aunts - talk about a double whammy!

Terra, I've flagged too.
..... it is true to say that Goy is not a secure site as there is no 's ' in the html . You can check this out by right clicking & go to inspect.

30 May, 2017

I've just logged into GoY this morning but didn't get the message this time! Don't know if this is because I'm using a different computer or what to yesterday. Later in the day I'll try logging back in from the computer I used last night when I commentated on this blog - which, BTW, I flagged - even though it was flagged by several members a couple of weeks ago. Then I will see if the device used makes any difference.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your aunts, LS. What a terrible thing to happen & then for the tax people to come along afterwards demanding their "pound of flesh"!
