Till Springtime ...

Outdoors, the air is icy, but the hellebores are looking pretty …

……………………………………………………………………..

… the cauldron houseleeks are cosy and cheerful …

……………………………………………………………………..

… and some shrubs are flowering better than ever …

……………………………………………………………………..

The heathers are happy and healthy …

……………………………………………………………………..

… the hydrangea heads are holding on …

……………………………………………………………………..

… and this sarcococca has both flowers and berries …

……………………………………………………………………..

Nevertheless, I’m cosy indoors, attempting my first knitting for decades …

… it’s a blue dog-coat .. not yet completed .. and Truffle likes to help by curling up on my lap …

… in fact he has kept himself warm by snoozing under the coat throughout every stage of construction !

…………………………………………………………………….

When the outside temperatures warm up, I’ll do more work in my gardens …

… but at the moment, the bird-bath cherub looks decidedly chilly …

……………………………………………………………………..

However, despite the winter weather, the gravel gardens are providing plenty of interest …

……………………………………………………………………..

… the red blossom is beaming brightly …

……………………………………………………………………..

… and the Coronilla is determined to dazzle …

……………………………………………………………………..

… while some special creatures are content to find a cosy crook in a branch …

… and, till Springtime, they’ll entertain us with the sheer purity of their tuneful singing …
… a musical delight β™ͺ β™« ♬

TT your garden looks as good in winter as it does in the summer time,
and it's nice to see Truffle knows how to keep warm in cold weather :o) x

Beautiful treasures in your garden Tt.... Love the doggie coat too. I saw a Westie wearing a black and white knitted coat the other day and have been thinking about knitting one for Lottie.....we'll have to keep them warm when the snows arrive....:((

Thanks Hywel ...
Truffle knows how to be comfortable and cosy ;o) x

Thank you Janey...
yes... why not knit a coat for lovely Lottie ?

Hi Homebird ..thank you ...
the red Quince seems especially hardy.
My friend kindly sent me plenty of the lovely light blue wool, so that might mean I could be doing quite a lot knitting this winter .. enough for Conker and Truffle ... but maybe not for Crocus the budgie ! ;o)

Great to see so much colour in your garden, TT! :-)) Lots of colour (blue!) for Truffles coat as well! He will be warm!

When we were in Cuenca a few weeks back we were struck by the HUGE number of dogs we saw! We had never, ever seen so many! Many of them also were wearing coats! I can't imagine why the canine population has increased so much in the 9 months since we were last there!

Many people even had 2 or 3 dogs as well! Most strange!!! They were like most dogs here as well - "mixed breeds" - neither did they appear to be dogs from the same litter - like ours were. I didn't get the impression they were pedigree dogs either, just your plain, run-of-the-mill, average, everyday pooches! Most strange!!!

Some lovely photos of your pretty garden TT so many flowers on your quince, we never get that many!! Truffle will be a bobby dazzler in his new knitted coat...

Those stoney "pots" for heathers are amazing, I didn t see it on your photos before.
You are some weeks ahead with helebores.....my Viburnum tinus blooms as well.

Hi Dotty ... glad you like the Quince and the coat !

Thanks Balcony ... that's remarkable how many mixed-breed dogs you saw in Cuenca !

That's a very pretty Hellebore TT ~ I will have to see if there's any life in mine yet! Love the dog coat too Truffle will look just grand in it! ;o)

Thanks Kat ... I made the heather-container from concrete slab pieces some years ago ... there are more pics of it in different seasons ...
e.g. http://www.growsonyou.com/photo/slideshow/236568-front-garden-sunny-side-bed/member/terratoonie

Thank you Tracey ... Truffle and Conker absolutely love trying on any garments ! The Hellebore was a present from a very kind GoY member, Arlene. :o)

Another lovely, cheerful blog, TT, thank you. I loved to see Truffle snuggling up under the knitting. Chloe and Mungo used to do that in my knitting days. A few dog hairs knitted in makes the garment warmer :)

Sometimes we need reminding of the joys of winter and this blog is filled with warmth and colour and the beauty of nature.

Very nice Tt....lots of colour still. All i have in my new garden at the moment are Green and brown!!!
Can't wait to set about changing that!

That is fantastic winter garden Terra.

Your wonderful hellebore and that amazing Chanel else have just about knocked my socks off! Fancy knitting me a new pair? ;) x

27 Jan, 2015

Thanks Gee ...
you're absolutely right about a few of Truffle's lovely white hairs being woven into the knitting ... luckily the blue wool has some coloured flecks, so a bit of extra white doesn't look out of place !

Thank you Chris ..
that's a lovely comment ... On chilly days I'm really not able to work outside.

Hi Paul ...
thank you .. won't be long before you make amazing transformations to your new garden !

Hello Klahanie ...
thanks ... I can see a lot of my winter garden from indoors through my windows ... a definite asset !

Hi Karen ...
I have to limit my knitting because it is too much of a struggle for my eyes ! x

27 Jan, 2015

;) I know just what you mean!

27 Jan, 2015

So much colour in your garden TT, it looks amazing! I managed to get out into y garden yesterday for a couple of hours, but that was all, far too cold for any longer.
Who's going to get the first lovely blue coat? I think Truffles has already decided that it will be him!

27 Jan, 2015

Hi Waddy...
thank you ... both dogs are envious when they have to wait their turn to try on any garment .. coats, hats etc ... they just LOVE dressing up ...
I agree that working outdoors is difficult in the colder weather ...
... conversely .. last summer I worked happily through all the hottest days ... building and painting my dog-run etc .. while others would have collapsed from the heat !

27 Jan, 2015

Terra I think your garden is beautiful, so much colour....I did see some tiny snowdrops in mine and a couple of primroses, the hellebores are tight buds

I see Truffle is making sure that this coat is his ?

27 Jan, 2015

Thanks Pam ...
I've just 'braved' the cold weather, and swept up lots of back garden leaves ... but the task was made more pleasurable by the robin singing loudly and posing for pictures .. much to the frustration of my dogs who wanted to be photographed !
... glad you have snowdrops and primroses coming through ...
Whichever dog ends up owning the dog coat, it will have the advantage of moulted Truffle hair woven in ;o)

27 Jan, 2015

What a very interesting Garden, Terra although the weather there is really cold , Your garden still very lustrous and flowers are still amazing , as if , not affected by the icy weather:-)))
Blue color is favorite, and Truffle too?
He's so sweet :-o)
Give my warm hugs to Conker, Truffle n' Crocus :-)))

27 Jan, 2015

Thank you, Junna ...
light blue is my favourite colour and I think also for Truffle and Conker ... not sure about Crocus ... he has green and yellow feathers ! Lol.
I like your appropriate word 'lustrous' for my garden ...
I must remember that one ... thanks :o) x
Your English language skills are getting too good !!

27 Jan, 2015

Love that Hellebore - they are gorgeous I think - your garden is very colourful and the doggie coat looks good and maybe just in time for next weeks cold spell. Have a good week - Jane

27 Jan, 2015

Hi Jane .. I'm pleased you like my Hellebore and gardens.
Yes, just in case snow is on the way, I must knit faster to finish the coat !

27 Jan, 2015

Loved the blog Terra, but then I always do ! It all looked quite cheery considering its winter ! I keep seeing the Coronilla and am tempted to get one. Does it flower only in the late winter and is it interesting the rest of the year ?

27 Jan, 2015

your garden looks great Terra. love the pot you made for the heather. :-)

27 Jan, 2015

Beautiful winter garden pictures TT a super blog as ever, just love Truffle keeping cosy with your pretty knitting project which he no doubt thinks is destined for him!
Happy knitting :o) x

27 Jan, 2015

Thanks Rose ... the Coronilla does seem to flower for a long time ... many months over the winter... it has attractive, smallish, evergreen leaves. Sometimes the plant becomes a bit straggly, but I would suggest just trimming any little branches which look especially untidy .. don't give it a drastic pruning.

Thank you Sandra ..
I made the structure for the heather many years ago, and it is lasting well. :o)

Hi Neena ... thanks ...
Hoping to complete the coat soon... weather turning windy and chilly again ! x

28 Jan, 2015

:o)

29 Jan, 2015

All looking lovely, you're way ahead of me Terra, no hellebores open here yet. You have such good design in your garden that's it always looks great. I don't know if you know, but apparently knitting is very trendy! :-)
