Cheerfulness in the Cemetery

Walking through a graveyard, I saw these happy sunflowers growing out of the ground …

I reckon a cheerful, cheeky gardener is buried there :o)

What a lovely flower to brighten up a sad place :o)
Maybe as you say, the flowers reflect the personality of the person buried there.
It would be nice if they seeded themselves all over the graveyard :o)
I like walking through grave yards ... don't know why lol

While cycling near Venice I passed a cemetery. Every day there were people going in with arms full of fresh flowers.
I looked in the gate, there were photogaphs on most of the headstones. Large Cyprus trees created cool shade in
the heat. A girl from Tenerife who came to this country told me that every week her mother takes Orchids to the
cemetery. They must grow them like bedding plants.

I put silk flower posies on my memorials, and keep them clean. It only takes a few minutes once a month to wash
the previous months, and reset different ones in the Oasis.
Even when my back was painful, I still went. Have done
it for 55 years, although the arrangements were larger
when I was younger. Cant understand why everyone does
not do this. We have a responsibility to these open spaces.

Thank you Tracey ..
lovely to see flowers growing, rather than cut flowers.

Its always good to see flowers actually growing in the cemetery, I always think its sad to wander around and see only grass and sad lonely headstones.....

Hi Sue ..
yes .. something special and soothing about seeing the living flowers ..
This cemetery is mostly neat and tidy with well cut grass paths ... and the sunflower sprouted cleverly ... away from the mower's route !

Just for the record TT, which cemetery is it?

Great, TT, much better than pushing up daisies! I think you're right, must be the final resting place of a keen and humorous gardener :)

What a great find, TT! They really look great there & brighten up the place no end! A Sunflower in full bloom with the sunlight bathing it is a glorious sight!

There are several like that one on our allotments - self-sown as we haven't sown any in at least 2 years.

Nevertheless a Sunflower in full bloom is always a show stopper! Well done for taking the photos!

Hi Balcony ... Thank you ..
I'll always remember turning the corner of the path in the graveyard and suddenly seeing the sunflowers, with the sunlight filtering through ... it was magical !

I like your comment 'a sunflower in full bloom is always a show stopper' !
