WINTER BIRCH

Silver birch ~ a winter’s night ~
snow flakes in the early light …

…………………………………………………………………….

Stormy birch ~ a stunning sight ~
Monochrome ~ all black and white

……………………………………………………………………..

Silent birch ~ a frosty hue ~
Dove is pensive ~ not one coo …

……………………………………………………………………..

Morning sunshine ~ clear and cold ~
Silver tree trunks turn to gold …

……………………………………………………………………..

Blue skies bring a new recruit ~
Frisky finch ~ alert and cute …

……………………………………………………………………..

Busy bird-song all around ~
Robin chirps a cheerful sound …

……………………………………………………………………..

Feathered friends sway at great height ~
Bold and brave, they hold on tight !

……………………………………………………………………..

Opportunities to perch ~
Courtesy of silver birch …

That bare birch, it brought us cheer ~
But here’s to spring when leaves appear …

…………………………………………………………………….

The seasons come, and seasons go ~
So sing, and watch the catkins grow …

I love the silver birch trees Terra and we had a large weeping one at the last place and so was quite pleased to see one next to our fence in the neighbours garden ! We sit in our little conservatory and watch all the birds come and go. They are just getting to know us now so I'm looking forward to Spring in the hope the blue tits may decide to nest in our bird box.

That tree is quite a star by now! Whenever it appears i always look forward to a singing robin, and sure enough there he is. Love it!

Smashing blog Terra with really lovely photographs, I spent ages trying to find my robin today, he was singing his little heart out whilst I was gardening but would not show himself whilst I had my camera, lol.....

Enjoyed your photos with verse, I planted a Silver birch `grayswood ghost` last year, it will be wonderful if it matches the beauty of this one.

Lovely blog Terra where did the snow come from ?:0)

Thanks to those who enjoyed this blog.
Kind of you to give it 'likes'.

Where did the snow come from ?
The snow came from the sky.

Where did the rhymes come from ?
The poem came from my head, inspired by the tree.

Why did I write it ?
Because I haven't been feeling well, and I have other problems here, too ...

... but I think writing poetry is better than moaning about everything.

Silver Birch is one of my favourite trees, the graceful lady of the wood. Your pics are excellent (sighs enviously)

Thanks Fran ..
do you have some nice trees around your new home ?

28 Feb, 2014

there's a belt of them, nad shrubs, at the bottom of our gardens, and a little way along, a mini-wood or copse, but i've no idea what any of them are. Time to do some bark-rubbing, I think

28 Feb, 2014

Maybe photograph some of the leaves in the summer ...

28 Feb, 2014

"good thinking, Batman!" If I remrmber, I will - that's a big "if"! but there's bound to be helpful info somewhere - the brook is in a nature reserve, and there's a nature orgaisation locally, so they might be able to.

Pity none of them are Silver Ladies, though, or at least, I'fe not recognised any as such.

28 Feb, 2014

Take closeups Fran of the bark and buds, some like ash are easily recognised.....others need the leaves

28 Feb, 2014

thanks, love, I will. samples of everything; leaf, bark pattern, growth habit ...

Getting them in proper focus would be the fun part - I usually take several, in the hope that at least one will turn out clearly, but i can't tell for sure until I get home and upload them to the PC. still, practice enough and I should get it right eventually :-)

Such graceful, elegant trees and you have more than done justice to their changing looks.

As always a very special blog Terra.

Great blog, TT, on one of my favourite trees. Reminded me of school days and a poem we had to learn that started 'The silver birch is a dainty lady, she will not live in town'.

Hope you're feeling better now :)
