WELCOME RAIN ? ... yes ... and no ...

STRANGE WEATHER ~

Are your gardens dry … desperate for water … ?
… or are they wet and soggy …
… flooded by constant downpours ?

In East Anglia, and Southern England, you’ve probably been praying for the heavens to open …

… while in Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northwest England, the shrubs and flowers are flattened by relentless rainfall.

… but my gardens have had no significant rain for about two months, so my Hydrangeas have been grateful for the daily visits from my watering cans

…………………………………………………………..

…………………………………………………………..

…………………………………………………………..

…………………………………………………………..

The dry weather is an opportunity to do painting and maintenance jobs around the garden. Truffle wasn’t too keen to volunteer with his paint brush …

…………………………………………………………..

… especially when he realised I was constructing a fence to make extra sure he couldn’t escape on any adventures down the side part of the garden towards the road … Lol …

…………………………………………………………..

… and the old shed needed its side re-painting ready for new guttering …

……………………………………………………………

… I still hadn’t found the time to relax on my refurbished bench-seat … but it made an excellent place to put all my tools etc ..Lol. …

This was the third of my garden sheds on which I was fixing guttering, and for the task, somehow I was left with lots of mis-matched guttering pieces …
… all small size and brown plastic, e.g. downpipe and attachments, but from THREE different makers … Wickes, Hunter and Marley … and they didn’t fit together easily … so that was a challenge in itself … Lol …

……………………………………………………………

… but Conker was there to help, and soon he was ready with the final fixing for the downpipe …

……………………………………………………………

FLOODING !

We did have one short downpour, but most of that flooded from my back garden directly into my house, under my kitchen door !

… Truffle did his best to lick up the invading water, but his little tongue just couldn’t work fast enough !

Eventually I mopped up about 2 litres of rain, and being a conscientious gardener, I poured this precious rainwater onto my flower beds !

……………………………………………………………

GoY’s Dr Bob suggested the great idea of putting a black bin bag under the door, and this was a brilliant way of stopping more rain coming indoors …

Later I managed to gouge out the old sealing strip which had perished at the base of the door frame. I removed the strip with great difficulty, in tiny pieces ! Can’t obtain the correct replacement strip to go along the base, but I’ve temporarily put in another type of strip I found in my shed. Lol.

……………………………………………………………

WATER FOR PLAY ~

Another hot dry day, and I put the pink bath into the dog run. As with the yellow bath, Conker preferred to play in the empty bath before the water went in ….

……………………………………………………………

… but Truffle was quick to do the Terrier Trot … splashing water everywhere …

……………………………………………………………

… Truffle was soon “travelling” along the dog run … pushing the pink bath towards the house …
… Conker moved out of the way … fast … Lol.

…………………………………………………………….

… water nearly all gone …

…………………………………………………………….

An empty pink bath …
… and a VERY wet Truffle …. Lol.

…………………………………………………………….

WATER FOR FLOWERS ~

Evening, and again it was time to water my Hydrangeas ….

…………………………………………………………….

…………………………………………………………….

……………………………………………………………..

DRY WEATHER FOR DOG SHOWS ~

It was nice to have sunshine for the charity dog shows.

At a recent show, just for a change, we concentrated on the Pedigree classes …

Truffle was excited, but behaved quite well, and he was awarded Best Terrier, receiving a silver spoon and red rosette …

He also won lots of dog food treats … not in the photo. Lol.

……………………………………………………………..

… and … Conker … well, wow …
… I’m so DELIGHTED

Conker, for various reasons hadn’t entered a Pedigree class for about two years … but his coat has grown back after his chemotherapy, so we had a try at the Pastoral class …

… Conker was really enjoying himself… parading up and down …

He was awarded first place in that class, and from there, went on to win Reserve Best In Show …
that’s second best Pedigree dog at the whole show …

Conker is looking really well at the moment …
… recovered from his recent spell of “throatiness” …

Here he is with some of his prizes from that show …

… doggie suitcase with bowl, travelling water bottle, dog food treats, toy ball, silver trophy , silver spoon and red rosette :o)

………………………………………………………………

… and finally …

… depending on where your garden is located …

I wish you LOADS OF RAIN !!!

… OR ….

LOTS OF SUNSHINE. :o)))))))

Lovely blog TT, and entertaining as always. You're garden is looking good despite the lack of rain and Conker and Truffle always make me smile. You've done a real good job of the sheds and also the bench, looks great.
Unfortunately it's done nothing but rain here for weeks but the wind has dropped.I've not done much in the garden for a while as the wind has made a right mess and it's not much fun in the rain lol. I do hope your wish for lots of sunshine comes true! lol

21 Jul, 2010

Thanks Holly and Skillen....
Sending rain to Holly and sunshine to Skillen... Lol :o)))

21 Jul, 2010

Wonderful blog, Terra, and what lovely photos too! Glad to hear Conker is still doing so well, and how proud you must be that your 'boys' did so brilliantly in the Dog show~congrats my friend!! Your garden looking as wonderful as ever, but do you ever stop??? lol! You seem to be on the go constantly......remember to take a little time out for yourself too, Terra, be kind to yourself and take time out just to sit down and appreciate all the garden magic you create.... :~))

21 Jul, 2010

What a great entertaining blog Terra, You have a wonderful collection of Hydrangers and can't believe how many Diy jobs you have got through with your helpers of course! Lovely pictures pf Conker and Truffle give them my congratulations for their success at the dog shows[ in the form of hugs of course]
Well here in Lancashire we have had lots of very heavy rain, some flooding in the Lake District and just as they bought in a hose pipe ban!

21 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog and pictures...thanking you...not much rain here..having to water the garden...I am hoping for a real downpour and I will not moan if it lasts for a few days.....just bought and planted seven new plants. :))

21 Jul, 2010

A very interesting blog, Terra, the Hydrangeas are lovely and obviously thriving with your TLC. Dogs look happy and well too ! I've just used the hose-pipe on the Hydrangeas as still no rain here. Possibly tomorrow ? I hope you have success with the sealing strip for the door, sometimes the local hardware shop is more helpful than the large DIY stores

21 Jul, 2010

You'll have to get a 4th shed to keep all their prizes in TT :))
Truffle is so funny emptying the bowl of water ! Did he learn that trick when he saw you franticly mopping lol ?
Conker has the right idea,he knows how long it will take his coat to dry out :))
Your hydrangeas look really healthy :)
Oh ,we haven't had a lot of rain,I've just watered the pots etc but everything needs a good dowsing ! Possibly early am if forecast is to be believed ;)

21 Jul, 2010

Great Blog TT, glad the plastic bag worked, have you got a weatherboard on the outside of your door, also with a steady hand you could run sealant from a gun into the groove. I hope you haven't taken out the sides and top. You would have to wait for the sealant to dry before shutting the door. The garden and your boys look very good, take care.

21 Jul, 2010

That was a great blog TT :o) Congratulations to both dogs for their prizes !
I'd have sent you a share of our rain yesterday if I could - I'd like a nice summery day now for a change. Maybe the rain is waiting for you to put a new seal under your kittchen door before the downpours start :o)

21 Jul, 2010

another great blog TT, how nice to see Conker looking so well and Truffle just makes me laugh!!

21 Jul, 2010

Please! please! please! send me some sunshine to the west coast of Scotland. It is like winter here. 14degrees and rain, rain, rain. Truffles and Conker could enjoy running about getting wet and you wouldn't have to water the Hydrangeas.
Best wishes
Linda

21 Jul, 2010

Can we have rain here please?
Lovely blog TT, your hydrangeas are super and your lovely dogs doubly super !

21 Jul, 2010

You have some beautiful Hydrageas, I bet Conker and Truffles loved their splash about they seem to be enjoying it. and well done Conker for the 1st prize and comming 2nd in the whole show its great big hug to Conker from me xxx

21 Jul, 2010

Hi Linda ... Your sunshine has been ordered.... :o)))

Hello Skilla ... Terriers make you laugh don't they..Lol.

Thanks Hywel ... Truffle was very pleased that he won some food.. :o)

Thank you Bob ... I only removed the seal along the base of the door where it had deteriorated ...

Hi Aster ... Truffle doesn't stop to think that I fill his pink bath with tap water ... paid for on a meter ... Lol..

Thanks Shirley ... The lovely DIY shop in our town disappeared like so many local individual shops. It was a lovely place, full of all kinds of nails, screws, you name it ...

Thank you Michaella ... good luck with your seven new plants !

Hi Pansypotter ... I keep crossing one DIY job off the list, and then adding three to the bottom of the list... Lol.
Conker and Truffle say thank you for the hugs. :o) xxx

Hello Flori... you are right ... I just go out in the garden and work non-stop.. Provided I have the energy, I really like to tackle lots of tasks... one day I'll sit on that bench ... ;o)

21 Jul, 2010

Thanks Grandmage ...
Rain for the London area ...

21 Jul, 2010

Wow..... your garden looks wonderful Terra, you`ve certainly done a lot of work. Well done To Conker and Truffle for doing so well at the show. A big hug for them both. Its wonderful to see Conker doing so well now, you would never know to look at him what hes been through. No rain here for ages apart from a couple of downpours last week, didn`t do much good though and I`ve been watering religiously, it has to come soon surely! :o)

21 Jul, 2010

Hi Sandra... Thanks ...
Rainfall for Berkshire now on order :o)))
Conker and Truffle sends hugs to Perry.... xxx

21 Jul, 2010

Hi Terra. Truffle is loving that game and Conker looks fabulous, to see that photo one would never know how much he went through, its a joy to see. They have done you proud again and I can imagine how thrilled and I bet emotional you felt at Conker`s award
Still haven`t got round to doing my benches yet, lol,.......

21 Jul, 2010

Hi Lincslass ... thanks...
Yes, I did feel very emotional when Conker received his award. :o)

Good luck with your benches ;o) Lol..

21 Jul, 2010

Well done, Conker, Well done Truffle and a very special WELL DONE to you too, TT, for all the love and fun you give those two little fellows. Brilliant news to know that Conker's 'throaty' episodes have passed. Your hydrangeas are great too - mine is slowly turning blue at long last. We had about 90 minutes of very heavy rain this afternoon (water butts refilled to brim again) so no watering for me tonight :)
I even managed to mow the lawns today. Tonight Stig and Millie ran around as if it was a race track and it now looks as if it has been attacked by a machette - but its so funny to see them :)

21 Jul, 2010

great blog Terra and so enjoyed the pics of the boys having fun in the water, your very handy with the DIY, well done, i use to do it all myself till i scooped baz and now i have a handyman lol, well done to the boys on their wins at dog show, im so pleased for you all, sorry about your flooding, is it a sliding door Terra and is this part the frame on the floor, baz sugests you either go to a proper dealership who deal in consevatories and UPVC doors etc, or call out the company who fitted them, depending on how long you have had them and if still under garentee, even so they may sort it out,, better than trying to fix yourself, sealants arent always that good from DIY stores, x
ps, far to much rain here ;o((

21 Jul, 2010

love ur blogs terra xx lots of rain here ,we want sun

21 Jul, 2010

so entertaining TT loved this blog...
you have been so busy with all the fixing and painting. the shed looks like new....
as for the weather...force nine gales last thursday caused havoc with my tents...we took the tipi down before it fell down and spent ages lashing the yurt to the floor as it was trying to take off.....luckily no one was in them.....
the sun shone all day today was very welcome. hope we all have some calmer weather now...

21 Jul, 2010

Love your blog as ever TT certainly had too much rain here in Wales, you have been so busy, Truffle and Conker make me smile with their water antics and they are such a help to you, then what a lovely ending Congratulations to Truffle and oh well done Conker we all know you are a winner but nice to have it confirmed and goodies too!! well done chaps :o)

21 Jul, 2010

Your blogs are always so informative, witty and pics well captured TT, its wonderful to see just how much fun Truffle and Conker were having with their water bath. Its amazing that you manage time for all your diy jobs, especially at a time when you put so much effort into keeping your garden looking so good. Conker and Truffle came up trumps and did you proud which is marvellous after all that you have had to overcome.
Hugs to you all.

21 Jul, 2010

love reading your blogs terra. well done conker & truffles you deserve your winings. your garden is a pleasure to look at. lets hope you can get your door fix.

21 Jul, 2010

What a good job you made on the bench, most professional. Conker and Truffle are the most amusing dogs (are they really dogs....I ask myself?) they do make me laugh, another classic blog TT.
We want rain and loads of it please, pref at night lol

21 Jul, 2010

Great blog and pics,Terra.Your boys look happy and full of fun.well done on getting those lovely prizes.Your Hydrangeas are looking great,:o))

22 Jul, 2010

Another lovely blog Terra, and congratulations on your wins! Your hydrangeas are looking great too. We've had a very odd assortment of... downpours, drought, high humidity and a few rather cold days thrown in for good measure. As my old next door neighbour used to say..."there's too much weather" Lol :-)

22 Jul, 2010

Congratulations on all counts - your DIY, garden, and last but not least, Conker and Truffle's achievements! You must be running out of space for all those trophies. You'll have to build a special extension for them...LOL...and I bet you could, too! :-)))

22 Jul, 2010

All lovely pics Terra, well done to Conker and Truffle. Good to hear that Conker is doing so well. The weather in Northants has been cloud, sunny spells and very, very hot. The only rain we've had was two days early last week, my poor Hydrangeas are suffering like yours :-))))

22 Jul, 2010

Hi Gee...
That's great to know Stig and Millie are getting on well together.... and enjoying your lawns Lol.

Hi Sandra ...
The door is not a sliding design, but was here when I moved in. I've pushed another type of plastic strip in along the base of the door frame. I had the strip stored in my shed ...not really meant for that purpose... but it might work.. :o)

Thanks Cristina...
pleased you like the blog xxx

Oh, Sandra...
those gales were not what you needed for your tents.. I hope the yurt and tipi are okay !

Thank you Neellan ...
It's so lovely to see Conker looking well and happy :o)

Hello Stroller ...
Very kind words... must admit I'm rather tired from too much DIY, but it is lovely looking out in the garden and seeing the jobs completed ! < Hugs>

Thanks Michelle for visiting my blog ...
Glad you like my gardens :o)

Hi Dotty ...
Thank you ...
I hope my mother would approve of how I've refurbished the "heirloom" bench .... one day I'll find an opportunity to sit there ...Lol.

Thanks, Bloomer ...
The hydrangeas rewarded me for my weeks and weeks of trips with the watering can... :o)

Hello Bornagain ...
"too much weather"... Lol. ...I like that.. :o)

Thanks Sh. ...
Conker and Truffle had a wonderful time at the charity dog show... :o)

Hi Annella....
I hope your hydrangeas are perking up ...

LATEST NEWS ...

22 Jul, 2010

22 Jul, 2010

Hi Clarice... Thanks ...
Yes, please... some of your rain would be lovely...
and you deserve some sunnier weather !

And you're right ... it really is Do It Yourself, isn't it.... Lol.

22 Jul, 2010

hope it works Terra, i though cylacone would be better as its flexable and sticks, also if you seal it from outside to under framework, just a thought

22 Jul, 2010

Hi Sandra ... Thank you ..
My makeshift sealing strip worked well through this morning's downpour ..
... let's hope the strip continues to keep out the rain ... :o)

22 Jul, 2010

thats good news Terra, fingers crossed ;o))

22 Jul, 2010

Love your blog as always Terra, amazing how much stuff Conker has won! Your plants are looking gorgeous as always too. Here in Oz we need the spring to hurry up. I prefer summer to winter infinitely!!!!!

23 Jul, 2010

Hi Pip...
Thanks. Conker won a lot of prizes that day...Lol...
He is sharing the food treats with Truffle.
My hydrangeas have done well this year, despite the lack of rain.
I wish you some better weather in Oz :o)

23 Jul, 2010

We had a cloudburst yesterday afternoon Terra at definitely the wrong time, I was halfway between daughters house and mine with my grandchildren and Brynner, no coats at all, heavens opened and we got drenched, it thundered a bit as well,( pleased to say that didn`t bother Brynner), however he rushed into my daughters house at top speed, I went flat on my back ,OUCH!!!!!!! so gardening is out at the moment .....I`m wandering about like an eggbound duck.!!!!!!!!....

23 Jul, 2010

Sorry to hear you fell down, Lincslass ...
... I hope you mend soon !

Good that Brynner wasn't fazed by the thunder ...

Have a well-earned rest ! xxx

23 Jul, 2010

Hi TT Only just seen this blog as I have been struggling to keep my garden dampened down, and as we have the sun until 8 or 9 o clockish it means Im out there so late that I dont have time to get through all the posts anymore....well...at least until we get some rain to relieve me. We havent had anything here since the middle of May and are getting really desperate. Well done to both Conker and Truffles and I hope you are keeping well too....

23 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog TT as always. We really do need rain here in London, the grass is brown wherever you look and trees are losing there leaves. I have seen many flagging Hydrangeas and other shrubs, and the borders are suffering. Its a constant battle to see which plant needs watering first. We had a few downpours in the past few days but no where near enough.

24 Jul, 2010

Thanks Milky and Rbt ...
Not easy to keep up with GoY at this time of year ...

Yes, there are areas of the UK which, for about two months, have had either no rain, or only a few short, sharp, showers ...
... I wonder what long-term effects this drought will have on plants and trees, such as conifers ...

Definitely a constant battle with the watering.... tiring and time-consuming ..
I love the hot, dry weather and can work outside in it for hours... but the days and days of watering take their toll on energy levels !

Truffle is doing his best to help the gardens ...
... splashing tap-water from his bath.. :o)))

24 Jul, 2010

fab photo's.

24 Jul, 2010

Thanks Khayla :o)

24 Jul, 2010

I was working the day before yesterday and the heavens opened at Gatwick airport - you couldn't see to drive. When I went home in the evening (it's only 9 miles from the airport) it was as dry as a bone and there hadn't been any rain.

24 Jul, 2010

Another great blog and lovely photos, Conker and Truffle are looking great and so is your garden, how are you? you should take five minutes to sit on your repaired seat. Our weather here this week has been mixed heavy rain, showers ,wind and sunshine .

24 Jul, 2010

Hi Cammomile ...
Thanks for visiting my blog :o)
What a pity you couldn't have moved some of that rain to your garden ... !!!

Many gardens are due for another dry week ...
... Lovely for working outside, but not good for thirsty plants !

Thank you Mavis ...
Conker and Truffle are enjoying their summer in the garden :o)
Yes, I'm tired ..working far too hard, but I enjoy it ...
and my list of jobs which need to get completed before the autumn is getting longer and longer !
I promise I'll find 5 minutes to sit on my bench seat. :o)

25 Jul, 2010

a lovely blog Terra. Not much rain here in the south east. Hard on the garden, but as Im originally from the north of the border I would rather it was dry!

25 Jul, 2010

Thanks Mageth..
Yes, I love the dry, warm, sunny weather...
I just feel sorry for the plants crying out for water all the time ...
my water meter is presumably whizzing round .... ! Lol...

25 Jul, 2010

Still waiting for the rain, thought it was going to pour down today looking at the clouds, but once again they have moved on. Having moved to Essex from Manchester I do miss the rain lol! Don't get me wrong, I love the sun, but I'm dreading the 'look' I'll get when the water bill comes in :o

25 Jul, 2010

Hi Daisylou ...
Yes, not a lot of rain around in your area ...
Possible showers on Tuesday in East Anglia and surrounding areas ...

Good luck with your water bill !!!

25 Jul, 2010

It spent all night absolutely thundering down here in Sydney! Woke up at 6:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. Good luck with the water bill Daisylou ;o)

26 Jul, 2010

Wow... Pip ..
You certainly do have dramatic weather in Sydney, don't you. ! :o)

26 Jul, 2010

Yes we do... not so long ago we had snow in the mountains. Not so unusual you might think... but it was falling onto the bushfires!!!

26 Jul, 2010

I hope the snow helped to quell the bushfires ...

26 Jul, 2010

Hi Tt, its such a strange weather year we've been to southwest scotalnd and although we had one wet & windy day the rest --- and the area --very dry, not only have they been haymaking but some combines have been out as well, drove through Teesdale on the way back and the reservoir looked low and some of the rivers and streams low as well , also I heard some canals have had to close ( I think in Yorkshire) as there isn't enough water!

Conker & Truffle look gorgeous as usual and deserve their prizes ( so does mum!)

26 Jul, 2010

Hi Pam...
I hope you enjoyed your Scottish trip... Remarkable weather all around the UK... Yes, some canals are to be closed ... Blackpool has had more than enough rain ... East Anglia parched... but...
tomorrow, the forecast for many parts of Britain.... RAIN :o)))

26 Jul, 2010

A few spots today, but didn't even have to get the brolly out or worry about frizzy hair lol!! Hopefully tomorrow....

26 Jul, 2010

... Daisylou, there is rain forecast in the East of England for tomorrow afternoon ...
water butts get ready.... !!! :o)

26 Jul, 2010

Wohoo :-))). Update, just been outside for a ciggie and we have very fine rain. Good to hear proper rain on the way lol, raincoat and wellies on standby...

26 Jul, 2010

Very smart wood everywhere, terratoonie, very nice.Lovely dogs, as for rain, they forecast heavy rain possibly thunder here in West London from 4pm onwards - so far, I've seen some very dark clouds pass over, and now its sunny again at 6.20 p.m. - so I'm not holding my breath, we keep just getting a couple of spits and that's it.

27 Jul, 2010

we've had dark clouds all day but hardly a cup full to show for it altough a mile away did have a shower for about 4 minutes!

27 Jul, 2010

Hi Bamboo...
Conker and Truffle say thanks ... :o)))
... the more wood I paint, the more there seems still to do ! Lol.

Not much rain for you or Pam ... !!!

I amassed only 4 pints of rain in my water butt today ... :o(((
... despite heavy showers promised for many areas ...

... which of my thirsty Hydrangeas will be the lucky ones, receiving the 4 pints ... ? ... Lol.

27 Jul, 2010

Oh is that all, well, my heart bleeds for you, lol. 4 pints sounds like a lot compared to not enough to whet a fairy's whistle...

27 Jul, 2010

he he he :o)))

.. and I'm still waiting for enough rain to test my shed guttering, put up some while ago now...!!!

27 Jul, 2010

We shouldn't complain really, I've no doubt we'll all be moaning about too much rain and where's the summer gone sometime soon;-))

27 Jul, 2010

The dry weather is certainly great for getting painting and maintenance jobs done :o)

27 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog Terratoonie. Have you had any rain yet? We've had a couple of showery misty days - they arrived with the school holidays - as usual.

27 Jul, 2010

Thank you Beattie... :o)
No useful rain yet ...
I bet Cornwall is looking lovely .....

28 Jul, 2010

What we can see of it through the fog..

28 Jul, 2010

Oh no - fog as well? You Poms seem to get the very worst of weather. Chin up!

28 Jul, 2010

Well its lovely here, Pipc, bright sunshine - ten minute downpour last night, made no difference to anything, still looks like the Sahara or the surface of the moon, lol!

28 Jul, 2010

Lol.. wish we had sunshine. It spent all day pouring again!

28 Jul, 2010

Yes, but you're in your wet season - you'll be having wall to wall sunshine later, won't you?

28 Jul, 2010

Yes... I suppose... it's more in the north of Aus. that has 'wet' and 'dry', we have four definite seasons here in the south, and rainfall doesn't seem to have anything to do with the seasons, it just happens at whatever time of year it feels like. Scientists are saying that we are beginning our 'La Nina' pattern again, this is a basic reversal of the on-and-off drought that's been happening for about the last 10 years. I suppose this means more rain, darn it!
I like rain during summer... but not when it is cold as well as wet. Summer storms are thrilling here, you get the full on green clouds, pouring rain, thunderbolts etc :o))

28 Jul, 2010

Well I must say, reading your comment has made me quite grateful for what is, in fact, a jolly good summer here this year, in the south, anyway - it is lovely to have lots of sun and warmth, last 3 or 4 summers have been absolutely rotten, so it makes a welcome change, crispy grass not withstanding.

28 Jul, 2010

true Bamboo --- we're never satisfied are we !...
its threatening rain today and more friday but have yet to see a drop but the hot weathers been fantastic in the greenhouse I've lost count of the cucumbers abd must have way over a dozen jars of pickle also the tomatoes and peppers are amazing as well _- I think that with the last few years being so cold and wet I'd forgotten what a good summer can do

28 Jul, 2010

its rained.. its rained...--- two good showers and I take the credit as I've planned a barbecue tonight !!!! ;~))))

28 Jul, 2010

Lol, Pamg - not a drop here today, though there's been plenty of threatening cloud since about 3.30. It had better not rain tomorrow, I don't fancy another soaking up in Ealing, specially when its only raining there and not here!

28 Jul, 2010

A downpour in Ealing ...
... is not so appealing ...

Pam's Barbecue soggy ...
...for Beattie it's foggy..

.. and Sydney gets thunder ..
Great weather Down Under ;o)

Well ???? has it rained or not yet ? We had a humdinger of a storm yesterday ... the cats were all huddled under the bed !!

I can see you have been VERY busy - where on earth do you get your energy from? - we all wilt with lethargy in the heat over here !!!

Great blog once again, TT! You must be very proud of your two dogs - especially when Conker won the prize for 2nd best dog in the whole show! Congratulations to you both! No, I've not forgotten Truffles - congratulations to him as well. :-)

Your Hydrangeas look very nice - thanks to your hard work with the watering can! I spent up to 2 & 1/2 hours watering down on the allotment several days week!

Please send us some decent rainfall, lasting several hours at least so it wets more than the top 1cm!

I admire you DIY work! I normally have to do any DIY that needs doing at home & my wife tells me you need to do or that or the other!

Hi Terry60 and her huddling cats ... ;o)
I seem to run out of energy when the warmth and sun disappears !!!

Hello Balcony ...

Conker and Truffle say many thanks... We've been doing lots of watering just the same as you.. It must have been exhausting for you trying to keep your allotment watered...

I reckon in your Huntingdon area you had about 2 months without rain ... the rainfall was always somewhere else ...either over to the East coast, or up in Norwich, or Lincs. or over to the West. Well done on keeping your allotment watered and healthy through the drought ...

Just thought I'd say how glad I am that Sydney had its first official sunny day today for about a fortnight. However it was still devilishly windy. I don't like wind. Thanks Terra for your wishes as they cam e true today!!

1 Aug, 2010

Hi Pip..... enjoy breezy Sydney :o)))

1 Aug, 2010

I'll try, Terra :o)))

Proper proper rain and thunder and lightning, forgotton what it was like!! I love a good bit of thunder and lightning :-))

4 Aug, 2010

Hi Daisylou...
Glad you have the storms to water your gardens :o)))

4 Aug, 2010

Raining hard here earlier, no watering today:-)

4 Aug, 2010

Isn't it nice to have a rest from the weeks and weeks of watering !

4 Aug, 2010

I'll say:-)

4 Aug, 2010

And the forecast is rain, rain and more rain! Got a week off next week so it looks like the decorating will get done :-). Maybe GOY could have a sister site called POY (paints on you) for all us fair weather gardeners. And I do get as much paint on me as the walls!! Is it my imagination or an illusion, but does the grass, where it hasn't died, look greener already...

4 Aug, 2010

PoY.... Lol... great idea Daisylou... :o)

Yes, the grass does look greener already....

4 Aug, 2010

Hooray - we had a cloudburst this afternoon, stair rod rain, lightning, thunder, everything, and we actually had puddles!

4 Aug, 2010

Well done Bamboo...
"May your water butts be overflowing with joy" ;o)))

4 Aug, 2010

I'm very glad for you all - gives a rest from lugging buckets & cans.

4 Aug, 2010

Thanks Beattie..
Even though I love working in the sunny weather,
I was worn out with heaving the watering can around !

4 Aug, 2010

Well the rain has stopped, so now it's back to heavy watering cans for me! Terratoonie, I hereby award you the 'Bornagain's flowerpot' award :o)

5 Aug, 2010

We had a little rain here on Wednesday 4th, & another shower or 2 on Saturday afternoon. :-) I don't expect them to make much difference down on the allotment though. I spent a couple of hours lugging watering cans all over the allotment. I would like to see an end to that so I can get on with some "proper" work like tying up the tomatoes to their supports & making up a bench for the greenhouse - something I've been saving for a rainy day, Lol!

8 Aug, 2010

Thanks Pip :o)

Balcony .. you might get some rain tomorrow (Tuesday) ...
That's tiring work ... carrying watering all over your allotment !

9 Aug, 2010

You are quite right, TT! It is tiring work & besides those 2 & 1/2 hours I could use for other things that need doing.

We did have some light rain here it's true but not enough to form puddles!

The soil is still like sand down on the allotment! :-( & I still have to water a couple of times a week.

We are forecast a little rain overnight & perhaps some showers during the day but I suppose they won't amount to much. We'll have to wait for the Bank holiday weekend at the end of the month - it's a tradition for the weather to become "unstable" at the end of August!

11 Aug, 2010

Hi again Balcony...
Showers for your allotment today and tomorrow...
I hope those give you a break from the endless watering !!! :o)))

12 Aug, 2010

Well we have had one shower so far today but it won't have done much for the allotment I'm afraid! :-( (Now 5pm)

12 Aug, 2010

Fingers crossed you get more rain tomorrow ...

12 Aug, 2010

We'll have to wait & see!
