GROMIT'S GRAVEL GARDENS

Hydrangea serrata “Blue Bird” ~
flowering happily, below our pergola,
in this lush, green corner …

…………………………………………………

… but no rain for many days …
… the sunny lawns are parched and dry :o(

Truffle is a careful gardener …
… he makes sure his tail doesn’t squash the sedum …
… Lol … :o)

………………………………………………..

Evidence that we’ve been VERY busy …

………………………………………………..

… scrubbing lots and lots of decorative brick walls …

……………………………………………….

Here’s the whole brush …
… before I sawed off the part I had worn out … Lol. …

……………………………………………….

Gravel and lights are in place …
… so I experimented with a night time photo …

… In the background, amongst the dry leaves,
I could hear “crunch, crunch, crunch” …
… Herbie Hedgehog was starting his evening stroll …

……………………………………………….

After all that work, I was ready to sit down …
… lean back and relax on the garden bench …

…or not …. Lol …

……………………………………………….

Three new slats made ready for the bench …
… receiving their wood stain protection …

……………………………………………….

Bench all screwed together and ready for sitters …
… Pepé Le Pew approves …
…seat now known as Pepé Le Pew’s Pew … ;o)

……………………………………………….

Gromit’s Gravel Gardens taking shape …
… GoY member Gee19 sent the pretty little pink-flowered geranium by the rock …

……………………………………………….

Aubrieta variegated red …
… and Ophiopogon nigrescens kindly supplied by
GoY member, Arlene …

……………………………………………….

Everyone is looking up, climbing the walls,
waiting for RAIN !!!

……………………………………………….

… even Fritz the frog is ready to do a rain dance …

……………………………………………….

… close your eyes TIGHTLY … no cheating …
… and pray for RAIN
… Conker … are you peeping ? :o)

Great blog TT, how it needs the rain to make it look perfect. The night photo looks marvellous, your tortoises look happier than Mrs. T, she is covered in dust all the time even though she has grass in her little garden, it's parched now.
I hope you noticed I got in early this time.

7 Jul, 2010

Wow the first pic is Amazing TT, Your right, it is Lush and the pic where Truffle's tail is sticking straight out made me giggle, you have a Gorgeous Garden X

7 Jul, 2010

Mrs. T will eat anything at the moment TT. She has a voracious appetite in the hot weather.

7 Jul, 2010

Your garden is looking lovely Tt, great blog must have taken ages to load all those fab. photos !

7 Jul, 2010

Bob ... If I lived nearer I would grow sedums, especially for Mrs. T ...
... her favourite yellow colour LOL.

Hi Grandmage ... Thanks...
You are so right about the pics...lol.
... took ages loading them onto GoY !!!

7 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog and some lovely photos ,Conker and Truffle look great as does your Hydrangea.I have some of the same animal ornaments Terratoonie.I like your night time photo.

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Mavis...
I've not tried night time photography before...
The first pics I took came out very inky black ...LOL.

Do your ornaments keep breeding ?
I started off with just two moles ...
... and now they have four babies ! ;o)

7 Jul, 2010

Brill blog & photos TT, we up here are on a hosepipe ban from 6am Friday morning :(((

7 Jul, 2010

Hello Tt, glad to see Conker still thriving.Hope he's doing well. I love your Dougal figure.Where did he come from???

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Clarice..
I hope your hosepipe ban won't cause you any problems... :o(((

Hi Paul... How are you ?
Conker is looking well thanks... hoping he'll be the one in ten where the cancer doesn't return...

Dougal was a gift to me a few years ago...
I told Dougal you were asking where he originated ...

... he says "The Magic Roundabout"...
I hope this helps... ;o)

7 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog and beautiful pictures Terratoonie. Thank you for sharing...

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Michaella...
I guess your garden is also waiting for rain ...

7 Jul, 2010

Glad I'm not the only one who saws off the worn end of a wire brush TT. Good blog, made me laugh....you and all your 'little animals' ;-)

7 Jul, 2010

Lol. Heron...
I think shorter wire brushes are available to purchase ... easier to use ...
can't recall where I've seen them ...

Have you noticed the smaller brushes for sale anywhere ?

7 Jul, 2010

Can't say I have, I think they're all a standard length, but it's a good idea.

7 Jul, 2010

Beautiful garden and wonderful pics TT :o)
I especially love Gromit and the gang! I've only got the one mole but now I've seen how lovely they look as a family I'm off to get some more! :o)
Referring back to a comment you made on my Gromit, I'm pretty sure they're the same size. He's looking great now you've painted him, you must have a very steady hand!

7 Jul, 2010

Really enjoyed your Blog Terra full of humour! You have certainly been very busy with your helpers of course! all looks very smart and ship shape all you want now is some rain for your lawn, Its rained most of the day here, just when they announce a hosepipe ban! so watering will take longer and not looking forward to carrying the watering can back and forth! hope you get some rain before the ban spreads!

7 Jul, 2010

Hi Busybee. Thanks.
Yes, I think our Gromits are the same size ...

My Dougal might need a "nose job" soon .LOL.

As soon as you have a couple of animal ornaments, you'll find they start breeding ...

... I'm sure I bought only two moles, and then when I next looked, they'd had four babies ! ;o)

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Pansypotter...
We had about two drops of rain ...
... lots of cloud, lots of breeze and gusty winds ...
... but no rain ...... !

7 Jul, 2010

As usual...you can always rely on TT to give us an entertaining blog.....and pics of her lovely garden......and her canine friends......Thanks TT...!!

7 Jul, 2010

You have been busy TT done a great job of the pew. When I saw Truffle with his tail so rigid it made me giggle I bet the poor soul thought she`s not using this as a brush. Especially liked the Hydrangea `blue bird` can never remember what soil for pink or blue, or does this not apply to the new ones.
hugs to you and yours.

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Alice... praise from you is praise indeed :o)

Hi Stroller ...
Good of Truffle to not squash the sedum, wasn't it..Lol.

The pew is an heirloom from my mother's garden ...
... but the wood had rotted ...

For blue hydrangeas, you need acid soil ...

<<< hugs >>> from all of us. xxx

7 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog Terra and smashing photo`s, we`re so dry around here even the weeds stopped growing,I have a huge tin of stain to do my benches but I`m afraid my getup and go has gone on holiday......

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Sooze...
Lucky you, getting all that rain ...
... no wonder Alan was chuffed :o)

7 Jul, 2010

Wow....its not very often we hear of rain in Norfolk these days....lol

7 Jul, 2010

Wow, you have been busy, your bench looks great. Conker wasn't cheating - he was just checking to see if Truffle had his eyes shut!

I was interested in your blue hydrangea - I have one that was blue 2 years ago, no flowers at all last year, this year lots of blosson to come but I can't tell which colour yet!

Millie say 'Hi' to Conker and Truffle and could they give her some gardening tips? She keeps walking into the greenhouse but just doesn't seem to know where to start!

Great blog, as usual, TT :)

7 Jul, 2010

i did a search & can't find it...is it a blog or a photo?

7 Jul, 2010

Thanks Gee...
Your Geranium looks perky, doesn't it !
Thanks for sending that :o)

I've told Conker your explanation....Lol.
Truffle and Conker send this message to Millie ..
.... They advise her to get her own collection of little watering cans...
... very useful in this dry weather ...

Good luck with your hydrangea... exciting waiting to find out the colours ....:o)

7 Jul, 2010

Hi Floralhead... It is a photo ...
If you go to my home page, and look back through my photos ...
... currently, it is at the top of page 3 of my photos ...
... Canada map ...
... hand-drawn by me ... LOL. :o)

7 Jul, 2010

t.t i can safely say u are crakers lol but we like it . please carry on it brings a smile to us all xx chris

7 Jul, 2010

Hi Chris ...
Wallace and Gromit like crackers, don't they LOL...
..with a nice piece of Wensleydale cheese... so that's okay ;o)

We're glad this made you smile xxx

7 Jul, 2010

You have a lovely garden TT and your constant gardeners are just gorgeous as well!

7 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog to finish my GoY evening on Tt, I laughed at the rigid tail too ! No rain down here on the Sussex coast, possibly through the night though, it would be lovely to wake up to the fresh smell of a rain soaked lawn ! The only green parts on mine are the creeping weeds and the Clover. : o ((((

7 Jul, 2010

Brilliant entertaining blog again TT. Love the garden. Wallace and Gromits garden is looking stunning. Love all the ornaments. Truffle and Conker are looking beautiful as always. I bet they enjoy lazing rather than working in their beautiful garden. I know I would. hehehe. :o)

7 Jul, 2010

Fabulous blog TT love Conker and Truffle......sedum hovering tail.... clever boy
what a busy bee you have been and how super it all looks loved it all :o)

7 Jul, 2010

I will happily pass some Aussie rain on to you Terra as we have way too much! Arggghhhh!
It's so good to see your boys enjoying themselves. lovely pics as ever.

8 Jul, 2010

Lovely to see your garden and dogs TT, and I'm glad you fixed the back slats on that bench before reclining on it :/
I managed to get through your blog eventually after giving in to Blodyn's demands for playing her favourite game, called "let's attack Hywel until he gives us some food"
Pitty about your brush lol. I think it looks worn out. I hope you're not worn out too. Can't have you looking like that lol.
I hope you've had some rain by now

8 Jul, 2010

Thanks Ian, Shirley, Linda, Neellan and Pip....

Wouldn't it be nice if those with too much rain could send it to the gardeners with dried up gardens !

Hywel ...
I promise I don't look quite as worn out as that wire brush ... Lol. :o)

8 Jul, 2010

I'm so glad to hear that TT :o) x

8 Jul, 2010

What a great blog and just look at all these comments!!! I haven't see Pepe Le pew for ages!! When my dog rolls in something smelly I call her Pruie La Pew!
We had a little rain last night very light. And a hosepipe ban in western Scotland, thats a first!

8 Jul, 2010

Hi Lulu... Thank you...
Pruie La Pew... lol.
We need to share this rain around the UK ... !!!

8 Jul, 2010

brilliant blog TT!

8 Jul, 2010

Thanks Arlene, and thanks for the Ophiopogon...
... all pieces doing well in different parts of my gardens. xxx

8 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog TT, Hi to Conker and Truffle. Your Hydrangea is beautiful, I can only get blue in a pot. Hurry up rain (but only at night please) my watering can is getting worn out :-)))

8 Jul, 2010

Hi Annella...
Thank you... Yes, all the watering it very tiring and time-consuming, isn't it.
I'm worried about plants dying from thirst ...
I'm happy for the rain to fall any time... except at the charity dog shows. Lol... :o)))

8 Jul, 2010

I have loads of things to plant but they're still in pots so waterings easier :-)

8 Jul, 2010

Fabulous blog TT!!
I enjoyed it a lot!!
Now I know what you meant by "scrubbing bricks."
You've done a lot!
Envy your bench; it looks brilliant after all the work!!
(I'm ashamed of mine; it looks very very crxppy!)
Love your hydrangea, very pretty, wonderful colour!
It rained here (only a bit though), hope you had some too.
All the best xxx

8 Jul, 2010

Thanks Tommy ...
Yes, lots of brick-scrubbing going on here ...
... trouble is ... no time to relax on Pepe's Pew ;o)

Are you going to restore your bench now ?
You could make a blog about it ...
Thanks for visiting my blog ... xxx

No rain here... same as Annella .....
... plants are thirsty .... :o(

8 Jul, 2010

I'd like to restore my bench but maybe next year...
Unlike you, I'm just a lazy cow... :(
Not much rain here after all..
Another sunny day again..
Much love xx

8 Jul, 2010

we have a hose pipe ban in the north starting fri. omg wot are we going to do. i carnt water all my garden wth a can , have told oh to sort sumthing wth the well lol .have to take the pump of the pond and put bak on the well haha

8 Jul, 2010

No rain here - we'll all have to do a 'rain dance' I think! All the furry friends can join in...but some will need training first. You can be in charge of that, Tt.

You have been busy - a real handy person! Well done - my bench could do with some tlc as well - that brush just 'might' hold out LOL.

I love the hydrangea...what a beautiful colour! :-))

8 Jul, 2010

wonderful blog TT... you have been busy.... no rain here either.. just got a bit of sea mist rolling in.... : O ))

8 Jul, 2010

Thanks everyone ...
I hope your gardens are rained on soon ... !!!
I've been busy again today...
... working on guttering for one of my sheds...
could be useful if ever we get any showers... or storms ... LOL. :o)))

8 Jul, 2010

: O ))

8 Jul, 2010

Hollow laugh, Tt. :-/

8 Jul, 2010

Great blog as always TT ... still watering here! ;o(

8 Jul, 2010

Thanks Fluff ...

I've just come in from watering front and back gardens with a watering can ...
... exhausting isn't it !

8 Jul, 2010

For sure! I usually use watering cans ... if the butts are empty & it's not going to rain we fill them up with tap water to heat up during the day.

8 Jul, 2010

That's a good idea....
I have some rain water left in my waterbutts ... but saving for the special plants in ericaceous soil ...

8 Jul, 2010

I feel as worn out as that wire brush getting down to here!!!!!! But, not half as much as you lot may be after all the watering and great gardening work you have all been doing. Does the bench have a backrest now, so that you don't sink onto it, and fall over? Love, as ever, Gromit's expression. Looks as if he is even looking up in that pic. :-)))))) xxx

8 Jul, 2010

Hi David...
Send us some Scottish rain.. pleeeease !!!

Bench has the backrest now ...
... in the pic above of Pepe le Pew's pew ;o) xxx

8 Jul, 2010

lol great blog and pics Terra, garden looks so pretty to, the guys look handsome as usual, love the froggy ;o))

8 Jul, 2010

Thanks Sandra...
Fritz the frog looks bigger and fatter than last year...Lol.

8 Jul, 2010

Hi Tt we need rain too ( or my 24 new trees do!) I wondered if you could train Truffle to " scrub" the walls with that busy tail of his and brush ! Lol ;O))

great blog again and wonderful garden

8 Jul, 2010

Hi Pam... Thanks ...
My current task is re-painting my oldest shed ...
... and putting up shed guttering for non-existent rain showers Lol...
... maybe Truffle could wield a paint brush with that tail ...
... he never stops wagging... :o)))

8 Jul, 2010

Excellent blog Terra and lovely photos of your garden too. I love the fun garden ornaments that you have hiding amongst the plants, they made me smile, especially Gromit with his wheelbarrow. I`m glad to see Conker is looking so well, he looks wonderful, so of course does Truffle. :o)

8 Jul, 2010

Thank you Sandra...
The ornaments have brightened up a very difficult, dull area by my long shed...

Yes, Conker is looking well...
... and Truffle has more energy than everyone else...Lol...

8 Jul, 2010

lol lucky truffle, i could do with some to ;o))

8 Jul, 2010

Wish I could swap some rain for some sunshine.
None of my summer bedding is in flower yet. We have been under constant cloud cover with temps of 16C, lots of rain and gales breaking shrubs and tree branches.... I'm sure just one sunny day would encourage the buds to open. At least I have GOY with all your beautiful and colourful gardens to look at. Keep posting the pics.

8 Jul, 2010

Love your Blog!!! Your too funny:)
Am I the only one that doesn't want any Rain?

9 Jul, 2010

No! I do not want rain! I do not want any more! It is just so depressing! All morning, rain! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

9 Jul, 2010

its been a funny ( peculiar) year, at the minute one side of the country (esp scotland) is wet & windy and the otherside dried to a crisp!--- its not as if we're very big!!
I just hope that when it does rain it knows when to stop!!!

9 Jul, 2010

Great blog, as always, TT! :-) It's always a pleasure to read your blogs! I loved all your photos & many of your commentaries are hilarious! :-D

The beautiful blue Hydrangea looks really "cool" in that lovely lush green corner. How do you manage to keep it so lush? Have you left the hosepipe trickling all day? LOL!

9 Jul, 2010

Hello Peonyrose, Pip and Pam ... P,P and P.... Lol.... :o)
I'm still waiting for rain ... the daily watering of gardens front and back is exhausting and time consuming !

You're right Pam.... a strange year for weather ... some parts of the UK very dry, others soaking wet ...

Hi Balcony ...
I love this hot weather ... I've been working hard in my gardens
... but, no hosepipe ... only a watering can !
Thanks for your kind words about my blog ... :o)

10 Jul, 2010

Tt your garden is great and your blog is like a beautiful picture story. My children looked at your blog with great interest first time since I joined GoY.

10 Jul, 2010

Thanks Camillia...

If your children like Gromit, they might like to see he also features on my blog of 29 April, 2010, Gromit's Ground Force Team. :o)

10 Jul, 2010

I will certainly check that out and I am sure they will enjoy it. :o)

11 Jul, 2010

lovely blog as always TT, see mine about new puppy any tips?

11 Jul, 2010

Thanks for the advice re the Dougal figure Tt, that really helps narrow down the search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, let's hope conker is the one in ten....I think there was a song called that ,in the 80's

11 Jul, 2010

Truffle has grown so much and Conker is looking beautiful ....lovely blog as usual TT

31 Jul, 2010

Thanks Skilla... looks like you are doing well with your new puppy :o)

Thank you, Paul... Conker is still looking well, so fingers crossed ...

HI Terry60... Many thanks from Conker and Truffle...

1 Aug, 2010

Nice blog. Love the animal ornaments and good job on the bench.

15 Sep, 2010

Thank you Anchorman...
My idea was to make Gromit's Gravel Garden very different from any other part of my gardens... it was an area which very much required brightening up.

I'm pleased I made such efforts with the bench because it is situated centrally at the end of my garden and I can see it from the house...
... one day I'll find the time to sit and relax on it... Lol.

16 Sep, 2010

Hi. Where did you get your Grommit pushing the wheelbarrow ornament? Thanks.
