My Garden in April

Introduction;

Here in West Yorkshire about 300metres (900+) feet above sea level it can be a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to the weather in April.

Last year we got weather more reminicent of July than that that would be expected in April.

This year we got similar weather last month (March) so my poor garden doesn’t know what season of the year it is!

I read the weather report in the paper for this month this morning, and apparently it has been the coolest and wettest month since 1991

The temperature has only averaged 10°C (50°F) which is two degrees lower than normal.

We have had 100mm of rain this month when the average is around 65mm, and at the time of writing, it has been teeming it down, so we might beat the record of 142mm before the end of the month.

Then there was the 100mm of snow we had when lots of my spring bulbs had just come into flower.

So the weather this last two months has seen the hot weather in March fry my Snowdrops, Crocus and early Daffodils, meaning I had a short lived season for these.

Luckily my Tulips are standing up to this torrential rain.

Here are a few pictures taken in April over the last few years and you will probably see what affect the changeable weather has had;

Very bright and beautiful. Did the blossom survive the snow?

Fascinating to compare the April photos of different years.
You have lots of bright colour there ... do you give the bulbs any special treatment in summer and autumn ?

Beautimous! You're way farther ahead than the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - my bulbs are up but not in bloom, no forsythia yet or peonies though my rhubarb and hollyhocks are starting to poke their noses out. Very lovely - thanx for sharing!

Wow Teegee your garden is gorgeous and there is definitely no need to delete the blog, lol, you have done a grand job with both the pics and the way its described, its good to see all the views and also the snow pics are lovely, pleased you added them as well, you sure like your bulbs,the spring flowers like mine are really doing well this year.
I like to see a full border and yours is, I like the raised beds and the two levels, I am however a bit envious of all the lilies, I guess its time to split some of mine..
Well done and hope to see more blogs, thankyou for the tour of your garden

Thanks for all your comments and to answer the questions raised;

I say to you Objibway sadly I don't exhibit anymore but I am going to the Harrogate spring show so it will be interesting to see how this years weather has affected the growers/exhibitors.

Terratoonie I only top dress with a general fertiliser, usually 'Growmore' when the daffodil bulbs come into bud.
