A few wee bonnie Heathers

Just a quick short blog to show you a few Heathers that i have ,This is the 4 that are performing at the moment, the first 2 i have no name for as i lost the labels a few years ago…

quite a clean pure white although starting to go over a bit now….

The foliage on this is almost golden in the sun…

This one is Erica Carnea Ann Sparks.‘AGM

just love the flowers as they hang down like little pink bells..

this one is Calluna Vulgaris Robert Chapman ‘AGM

the new growth on this is a bright flame red and is better in my opinion than the flowers in Autumn..

Love that there are plants for all seasons, Thanks for looking.. :-)

Great pics Surrey, I love my heathers, looking forward to them growing and interlocking as ground cover. What happens once they meet each other? Do they settle down or do they need thinning?

I like Calluna vulgaris Robert Chapman. I tried to grow them in my sunny garden, but they usually died. Do not know why. Put them in acidic little bit rocky land, on sunny place most of the day, put a lot of mulch. Nothing helped. They are lovely little plants.

I have a winter flowering heather rockery. Even though your plants are still not touching each other take the hedge shears and give them a light prune to remove the spent flowers. That will encourage new stronger growth. They will grow straggly otherwise. OH was a bit over enthusiastic with the cutting back last spring and I thought I might need to replant but they have come away fine. The damage is not totally cured but they are getting there. I feed mine with bone meal (at pruning time) as it is a slow release fertiliser and works for me.
Robert Chapman deserves that AGM he is lovely.
