Whiles sitting here counting down the day’s (13 to go until I can start walking) waiting for my foot to mend I’ve have lots of time to think and plan my garden for the summer. I was thinking about hanging baskets and summer bedding yesterday.
I have just been reading the Blog’s and I have been inspired by Ducky ‘s recycling ideas. It made me think about what I could recycle as a hanging basket or container.
Is anyone up for a bit of friendly competition to see who can come up with the most unusual hanging basket or container to grow your summer bedding I’d love to know what you think. Good or bad ……It’s just for fun.

glad to hear you'll be back on your feet soon

i love to recycle my gardens full of toilets baths wellies tyres bottles. its great fun. what sort of things were you thinking of using?

I try to recycle but I don't have many inventive ideas! So I'll look forward to seeing others' inventions. Ducky's were great!
I hope you soon get moving around again. It must be agonisingly frustrating watching the weather improving and things starting to grow but you can't get out there.
I've just thought of one thing that I've recycled recently. When I was having a sort through the shed I found an old , damaged coir basket liner so I hung it up in the garden for the birds to use for nesting. Some has gone already!

I used to have an old supermarket basket I found lying on the road. I used it as a hanging basket. It would be a good idea to see what others use. I'm not very good though but I'll try.

Perhaps we could try a supermarket trolley LOL ! It would need a lot of compost!

lol, - and would cost a pound.

It would be good if when members upload their photos they tell you, Sue, and give you permission to put the pictures all on one blog for viewing, rather like my wellie blogs where I include wellie photos from lots of different members.

at least the shopping trolly would have wheel so you could move it into position...

Yes, move it round to the sun all day.
You're right Blodyn, just a pound. What a bargain!

I think that's a great idea Sue. Now, I wonder what I can use.....Hmmmm.......this will take some serious consideration.!!
Do we wait until the plants are in full bloom before posting pics?

I'm in! I'll have to see what I can dig out of the garage to use! I sowed 12 different types of annuals for using in hanging baskets last week, one of them has sprouted already. First time in over 30 years I have grown this many from seeds. You guys are having a bad (good?) effect on me!

i dropped my very expensive crash hat 3 years ago and i had to replace it. i did hang it by the chin strap and put some dwarf sweet peas in. i had hoped it would retain water but sadly not that successful. perhaps i chose too greedy a plant. the replacement helmet means that i am extra careful now as heavens knows how many plants i could have bought instead! no photos though :o( so wont mine count?

Good idea! Should be fun to see what everyone does! :)

My container will have to be on the ground - we aren't allowed to put hanging baskets up on a listed building!

HI there.... hope u r up and about now... talking of recycling I have been raising seeds in the packaging from Somerfield's chilled profiteroles... a black plastic tray, complete with circular indentations, perfect for the little discs of compressed compost that swell up when you water them.... they have a clear plastic domed lid so it becomes an ideal little propagator for nothing.... well pounds actually.... on the hips.... someone had to eat all the profiteroles.... i have selflessly eaten 193 packs so far.....purely so that i could grow seeds you understand! the things we do for our gardens....

Hi Clematiscrazy I’m sure all that gardening will sort out those extra pounds! That is a great idea though. I am still on crutches but am only able to stay on my feet for about 20 minuets at a time getting there though.
I love the area you live in I am 8 miles north of Southampton I often bring my granddaughter over to the island for a day out.
