Find of the week.

Having had to walk to work on Monday due to all the snow and no public transport, I thought I would busy myself in our warehouse as we didn’t have many customers.. While tidying up the gardening section I came across 2 totes full of seeds. Having looked a little closer these were all from last year and our own shop brand, but not out of date till 2011.. ( I work for Wilkinsons for all the Brits who know this store). In all their wisdom they chose to change the packaging design, and by doing so all this stock went to 99% of the original price. As they don’t like us to sell it at that price, I marked them all up at 5p. I now have 30 packets of seeds to grow. Luckily my sister has a huge garden with nothing in it except a greenhouse, as she is not a gardener. I will have veg to last us the summer and beyond, plus flowers for this and the coming years. So at the end of the day I trugged back home again in the snow happily looking forward to the summer.

Fantastic bargain, Sue. Is this just your store - or are they all marking them down, do you know?

I think it's just our store now as they were buried under other stuff, but most of the other stores did have them at one stage but probably got rid of them when they were half price, as we were supposed to, but as I said they just got forgotten.

That was a really good find !
I guess no forgotten bags of seed compost hidden in the same area ? Lol

Shame! I could have gone into town to 'bag a bargain'!

Mind you, I don't think we'll be going anywhere tomorrow! Have you seen the forecast??

Well Irish she had this idea that when she moved into the house it had a massive garden she could grow all her own fruit and veg, and she did for a while while our dad was alive, but sadly 21 years ago he died and so did most of her garden. She has only ever grown Runner beans and rhubarb which really grows on it's own.

Agree with Dawn..we get much of our bird food there...its prices beat other stores hands down ! Must have made you feel the long trudge to and from work well worth it to get such a fantastic bargain

Thanks for that tip, BB - we buy ours from a pet store, as it's cheaper in bulk, but I shall be looking at the Wilko prices now.

Not sure I can match Sues prices Spritz but lately been selling the Bill Oddie food for half price which is great.

The cheapest place for mealworms by a long way.

That's a lucky find! I bought some carrot seeds and a few others last Autumn(in Wilkinson's) and I was amazed at how cheap they were then. When I got to the checkout, not only did I get the 3 for 2 offer but they'd also been reduced. I would have bought more if I'd known! Just as well I didn't though as I've already got truck loads of seeds in my Potting shed and I never use them all.

What a fantastic bargain, bet it made the walk in worthwhile. Good for you on walking in... lots of folk round us just stayed home!
We're lucky having a 4 wheel drive.. go anywhere thing!

I love Wilkinson's bargains! Happy Growing.
