In October 2014 as some of the older members may remember we made some changes to the front garden and put down a lawn. I can honestly say that we have been quite pleased with how its progressed so I thought perhaps you would like to see a few snap shots.

This is how it looked with crazy paving and shale not too bad but It looked a bit to harsh for me, as I wanted a softer look.

This gives a general overall look with the new lawn

and this is the other side of the pathway leading to the porch

and not quite leaning on the lamp post is a large Agapanthus Spinosus with Ivy.

As you can see Enoch is still with us although he`s looking rather bedraggled now and could do with a make-over, however, the children all love him and still give him a wave on their way to school.

I find it isn`t to bad as regards maintenance a quick mow, a trim round the edges and hoeing between plants seems to have kept it in reasonable good looks.
Happy gardening to you all.

That looks much nicer Stroller. I have to own up to having faux grass in our garden as the area is too small to bother with a lawn mower. But I prefer the softness of the greenery to that of shale or similar. Your garden looks wonderful and I don't recall having met Enoch before. ??

Oh it looks grand Stroller, I do remember you changing it , so many getting rid of all the lawns these days, I love mine, I think it makes a big difference though if you only have a smallish garden, we haven't got any in the front, its a busy road, we needed to get the cars in, however we are lucky that we look out both rooms to our back gardens, kitchen and hallway at the front so I don't actually miss it out there.. I'm pleased old Enoch is still there, he must be a crotchety old man now, thinking about it I don't ever remember a time when he hasn't sat there watching the world go by, lol...

Thank you one and all for your kind comments I`m glad you like it.
Waddy ... I did a blog back in Aug 2011 "Upsetting times our ENOCH`S gone missing" ... some one, we still don`t know who to this day took him on holiday and sent us post cards, bought him back and left a throw away camera which we had developed. He was stolen again 2014 in November ... ended up on somebody`s bonfire I guess, so this is model no 2 and it looks as if he needs a re-vamp.lol. ah well its all part of the fun.

It does look lovely, you were right about the softening effect of grass.
I think the person that took Enoch on holiday was having a bit of fun with you, lol, not so the one in November tho.
I've not met Enoch before, he does look very contented.

Great to see Enoch again Phyl. I reckon you have definitely achieved your goal with that lawn. What's more, it makes the space look bigger too. And I have to agree with everyone...it looks lovely and cottagey. One of the best front gardens I've seen. Super. :)

I must also add...might have said this before, but your porch is just lovely. If all the other houses had them it would improve your street, but as it is, yours stands out head and shoulders. Looks so pretty.

I'm not a fan of lawns but I must agree the paving looked rather bare. It's nicer like this and I'm glad it isn't too much work for you :)

Beautiful designed what an improvement Enoch has always put a smile on my face great idea I love it that the children gives him a wave a wonderful memory for their future to look back upon.

Thats right 3d what a good point! :)

The lawn certainly gives a "softer' look to the front garden.
Makes a lovely change that someone reverts to a lawn rather than concreting the whole area. Quite a lot of the latter goes on in some areas here to enable car parking.

I had to laugh when I read that someone had taken Enoch on holiday. Reminded me of the gnome in "Coronation Street" years ago that also kept sending postcards!

I think that the most beautiful and most interesting gardens are the small space gardens. An exhibit on small space gardening is what got me into gardening in the first place. Those in the U.K. are masters at this, lovely, well done! If you don't mind I am going to duplicate your angled white fencing area in my garden...I have the perfect place for it.

I'm playing catch up Phyl as it's tipping it down today. Your front garden looks really welcoming, love the porch and the picket fence. The whole effect is really 'country cottage'.
