What we do when we aren`t gardening !!!!!!!!

I`ve been out today and bought plants, sat looking through magazines and on plant sites so as you may guess the plants wish list is getting longer and longer. Nothing else to do so as I have just finished a couple of my own design knits I thought you might like to see them.
This first one is a edge to edge tie cardi knitted on my knitting machine.

This 2nd one is hand knit.

I haven`t done any knitting for a few years now but I have been so bored waiting for gardening weather thought I`d have a go, but I`d rather be out in the garden any day.

Excellent design - it used to keep me warm in the Army days when there was no radio or T/V to occupy the evenings.
Had a big photo of a walled garden over my bed.
Thats where I really wanted to be, not driving lorries
with crash gear boxes in convoys to the docks !
The others had photos of band leaders or film stars.
We had a small bucket of coke for the stove,
which didnt last long, so we were all in bed by 9 p.m.
to keep warm ! Stevie could get one of these for
his polytunnel.

You're very talented and creative :o) I's nice to have different hobbies, and to see what you have made.

I enjoy sketching, and making pottery ... and I hope to do more of the latter when the weather gets warmer. As with the garden, the winter stops me doing it because it's so dark and cold.
I also enjoy genealogy, and keep finding more and more about my ancestors. I'm trying to put it all together in a tidy file.
I don't think I enjoy gardening any more than the other things. I just enjoy whichever one I'm in the mood for at the time lol :o)

Very talented , Stroller , I've been knitting a scarf since before Christmas ; it might be ready for next winter !
It is crazing me too not being able to get out there , I'm buying too many seeds and plants , and not getting them in . It can't be too long now , can it ?

Looks like we may have to wait a bit longer for gardening weather, Stroller! I've been looking at lang range forecasts. Just written a blog in fact!
ps. you're very talented at Knitting...I'm just a 'Nit' !!

Very nice Stroller, the last things I knitted were outfits and blankets for my grandaughter, 15yrs old now so you can guess how many years ago that was, I have never really enjoyed knitting or sewing, much prefer getting dirty, I used to always have huge jigsaws on the go in the winter but now can't see the pieces properly except in daylight so haven't bothered this year, I do love to read, especially history so will spend time researching people and places, a lot easier to do now with the web to browse, its always a relief when its time to start in the greenhouse......

Nice work Stroller. I am currently knitting a bedspread...yes...a beadspread. I've done half of it now....1kg of wool knitted, 1kg of wool still to knit! It's for my daughter Rachel, by special request. Like you, I'm doing it to my own design, and it does look really nice, but I haven't done any for about 2 weeks now...just got a bit fed up of it. I shall get back to it in a week or so, as I really want it finished before the lighter nights. Like you, if I can be outdoors gardening I won't be indoors knitting or doing anything else indoors! Only a couple of weeks now until the clocks change...yippee!

Your comment made me smile Diane, I was trying to image Stevie in a sparkly jumper among his passion flowers.lol.
Hywel I would love to see some of your pottery, like you I have also been tracing my ancestry.
Ta TT and Paul glad you like them.
Lincs: I had a sudden spurge on jigsaws just after Christmas but like you my eyesight isn`t to good now and I don`t think I shall be doing any more.
Karen: Hope we are going to see your finished bedspread it sounds great, hope Rachel will treasure it, you never know it could become a family heirloom.

Yes, I hope so Stroller!

Sorry I missed you out Driad (just told Lincs my eyesight isnt so good.lol) The way this weather is going you should have plenty of time to finish your scarf.

Good to see you being creative indoors when the weather prevents creativity outdoors! Having said that I've been out in my garden for about an hour after work doing some planting and edging the lawn even though it's all very wet.

I've never been into knitting or sewing, but I have done a lot of embroidery or tapestry over the years, the eyesights going a bit now though, so I enjoy making my own jewellery in the wintertime and watercolour painting now and them. I also follow motorsports and spend a lot of time following the fortunes of my favourite driver :)

Thank you. When I make some things later on, I'll show them on here.

When I can't be out in the garden I like to scour the likes of eBay for unusual plants to add to my collection.

I have made some wonderful personal contacts that way who can now get me plants outside of eBay.

In the winter months I write my web pages ready for my website that will be going live this year. I document everything I do for a blog on that website

My winter hobby is sewing costumes for our local Musical Society, we put on a Musical at Easter each year, so keeps me busy until Spring, I like it when Easter is early as this year, just hope when we finish in the theatre that spring will have arrived, and I can sow my seeds.

Oh you clever lady! Those are amazing ~ you should have a shop! Or at least sell on ebay!!!

I really love the sparkly one!

Well done you, Phyllis . . . these are lovely! When I'm not gardening, I'm reading gardening books and seed catalogues (like you). But I was recently asked to suggest long-forgotten children's books for a project, so I've been reading dozens of those and having fun!

Thank you all for your comments and its as I expected you all have hidden talents to keep you busy alongside your gardening.

When I go to a musical show I am always full of admiration for the local ladies who work voluntarily making the costumes.
Think they should get more credit.

Thanks Diane, I decided long ago that my own sense of satisfaction, went a long way, they also know my passion for a nice bunch of flowers!

Well done you! I'm so impressed! I'm afraid I just don't like knitting , Stroller! I don't know why, but I haven't even done any water colours this winter, but we have had that many dark days that the light was never good enough to paint! Well, thats my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! Lol.
We are still having dark gloomy days now and I haven't seen any sign of good weather arriving yet!

Flippin' 'eck Phyl, you could start your own business! :-) After reading your comment about us all having hidden talents, I began a search. I've looked everywhere and have come to the conclusion that I've put mine 'somewhere safe' and forgotten the exact location:-(

Those are great, Stroller and even moreso as you say you haven't knitted for years!
When the weather keeps me indoors - as it all too often has - I have a number of hobbies; designing and making jewellery and decorative pieces, mostly with polymer clay, sewing and embroidering after my own fashion, crochet, drawing/painting. Yes, Jack of all trades, master of none - that's me. I must have tried just about every craft in my time. And I love writing short stories and poetry and reading, reading, reading. Recently finished A Song of Ice and Fire by G.R.R. Martin, which is entrhalling and like Sticki, I really enjoy children's stories too, tho' I'm busy battling with Great Expectations at the moment as I'd never read any Dickens but A Christmas Carol until now and decided I ought to remedy that. I might be in dire need of some Winnie the Pooh when I reach the end!
