When we don`t mean what we say !!!!!!!!

It was a year ago this month when I stumbled upon this site and I said on my profile entry that I wanted to make changes to my garden by having less plants and no lawns to mow.
Well ….. I got rid of the lawns but yes you guessed it the plants have at least tripled in number and still going. What else can you do when you see such wonderful gardens on here.
My clematis have just increased by two which I bought yesterday, and they are:-

`Pamjatj Serdtza` in bud.

Now in full flower,

Planted up the front garden Arch together with the Rose `Mortimer Sackler`.

This is `Chalcedony`, which is planted at the bottom of the garden to grow through a Plum Tree which is trained to go over an Arch.

Last but not least is Coreopsis `Moonbeam`, which I know this has nothing to do with Clemitis but it is one little plug that I planted in April and I think it has done brilliantly.

I`m just studying on how to alter the bottom of the garden to take in the two new Trees that should be delivered tomorrow, but more about that in my next blog.

Can I just say a big THANK YOU to all for making the last 12 months so pleasurable, its been great seeing all your pics and some of the blogs have been hilarious.

14 Jul, 2010

I know what you mean Stroller its a year for me on friday and its been such fun! to find -- and make-- all these new friends whose interests coincide with mine -- its been all the emotions and taxed my brain as well trying to remember plant names and things i should know and have forgotten , Thanks Stroller :0))))

14 Jul, 2010

14 Jul, 2010

14 Jul, 2010

14 Jul, 2010

very pretty photos

14 Jul, 2010

You have a gorgeous garden Stroller and you're right on all counts as well. I've never had so much fun on a web site and I don't think there is a day goes by that I don't log on at least half a doz. times! Lol

14 Jul, 2010

what a wonderful response from you all, I think we all feel the same, isn`t it great when there`s so much give and take.

14 Jul, 2010

Sounds like we are all smitten with Goyeritis.

14 Jul, 2010

It's lovely that we are all like minded people Stroller, and I definitely suffer from Goyeritis!....:o)

14 Jul, 2010

Scotsg, you can get something to take for that!!! Lol

14 Jul, 2010

You know what I like most about this site? It's so positive - everyone is so helpful, so encouraging, and their gardens are so beautiful. It sounds ridiculous, but - I have so much negativity in my life, I have a miserable job (I work at an animal shelter and yesterday we euthanized over 130 animals, talk about depressing), money is always tight, I cannot sleep without pills, people are always calling me or emailing at all hours wanting me to take in sick cats or homeless turtles or asking me to do more and more and & sometimes I feel so overwhelmed. And it's so refreshing and relaxing to just enjoy some lovely photos & learn from & be inspired by like-minded people.

15 Jul, 2010

You must be talking about the hair of the dog Grandmage.

15 Jul, 2010

I think I can just coppy and paste all the sentiments written here :-)
I know only 2 people that really care about gardens and one of them(my father) doesn't live in england,so pretty much nobody sees my garden. It's wonderful being able to show photos, and obviously see other gardens.
And getting rid of lawn means MORE space for flowers! It will never help reducing their numbers!

15 Jul, 2010

After reading everyones comments, It makes you feel all squishy inside, everyone is so lovely!

15 Jul, 2010

Have just been reading the last few comments after my last one,and think
that Goyeritis should be prescribed in a happy, addictive form of pill.instead of trying to cure something,.encourage this addiction....wouldn't that be great ?

15 Jul, 2010

Bloomer, yes, we all must have it !!! Do you think they will find a cure?
Scotsg, Lol. Hic :0))

15 Jul, 2010

Well,that's a certain addiction I'm definitely keeping :-)

15 Jul, 2010

We are not going down that road,Grandmage,as no one will ever need or want it A cure is definitely a banned substance...Lol.

15 Jul, 2010

We could grow our own cure ! Some weed maybe!!!!!!! Lol

15 Jul, 2010

That would help me sleep too!!

15 Jul, 2010

Hope there aren't any police on here Lulu, !!!

15 Jul, 2010

What a great response to a blog!!

15 Jul, 2010

Hi Stroller. It's been nice to have your company over the past year. I'm really glad you joined :o)
Well done on getting rid of the lawns lol. Now you have more room for lots of interesting plants. - much better :o)

15 Jul, 2010

Alas my lawn is suffering badly but I would like to keep it, partly my own fault for getting Brynner who I think is determined to get rid of it for me, Stroller I`m wondering if he`s been reading Goy whilst my attention has been elsewhere and is following your blogs.LOL....Your photo`s are lovely and I`m pleased to have your company as well.......

15 Jul, 2010

Tut Tut Grandmage the hair of the dog is more of the same - more GOYing. Any other hair is banned due to all those substances they feed you on the NHS.

15 Jul, 2010

I agree totaly with your comments and every one elses about GoY, long may it reign.

15 Jul, 2010

I am a good girl GrandMage!! Really I am but I could sure do with a full nights sleep! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

15 Jul, 2010

Lulu, do you grow lavendar? put a bunch of that by your bedside and under your pillow that might help you sleep.

15 Jul, 2010

Scotsgran I think I`ve got a really bad case of Goyeritis, I think it happened after digging 2 large holes to plant my new trees in. Got them done just before the heavens opened and we had a lovely downpour. So its a couple of glasses of the old malt for me and then I shan`t notice all the aches pain and twinges.
Oh and did I mention that I took up three very old slabs 40" long x 28" wide and re-arranged them to make a small seating area.

15 Jul, 2010

Grandmage I have loads of lavender, will cut some when the rain has stopped and put it under my pillow xx

15 Jul, 2010

Hi Hywel, its been nice to have your company too, five hardy fuchsias have joined my garden this year thanks to your encouragement from your blogs.

16 Jul, 2010

Lulu, hope it works ! x

16 Jul, 2010

I like the combination of that rose with that colour clematis, looks lovely (and I'm not too keen on roses so that's a lot for me to say, lol). "Less plants and less lawn" hilarious - most of us end up with less or no lawn to accommodate the plants, but I bet if you'd been told that when you first joined, Stroller, you'd have recoiled in horror. Glad you've got the bug, it's good for the soul.

16 Jul, 2010

I so enjoyed this blog and all the sentiments expressed to which I agree wholeheartedly. Stroller your garden is beautiful and I am so pleased that you found your way to this wonderfu sight and now you too are making your way upwards as I do to find more space lol.

16 Jul, 2010

Very true Bamboo always thought a lawn was essential, as for roses they like clematis seem to of taken a hold of me this year, still thats how it goes this gardening madness
Thanks Grannysue, trouble is the members are getting more and more and its so difficult to catch up on everyone and they all have so much to show and to add thats of interest.

16 Jul, 2010

Yes, nice clems Stroller! My garden spending has also increased dramatically since joining the site. It really has to stop now!! :))

16 Jul, 2010

I agree with you Stroller, I've lost count of clematis now and my good resolutions to keep all the labels ...well who cares, they'll look just as good without a name. This really is the nicest website (only been on one other, a dog one, and many members were not nice) everyone on here will help if they can. Love the rose too, I'm going to google it as I'm looking for the 'perfect' climber as I only have room for one. What a cliff hanger you've left us with, I wonder which trees you've bought, suppose I'll have to wait 'til next blog:-)

16 Jul, 2010

Stop spending, nah never, flowers are the way forward. Dug up more of the green stuff yesterday, put out a bag of strawberries into the garden, they were in a grow bag, put out a Hosta, which has grown that big it needed a new pot and I am determined not to buy any more pots. Ordered my roses for the new bed, ouch, the bank manager will say, she is at it again!! Have plans to dig out yet more of the green stuff, cut the grass last evening, it took about 30 mins less than it used to many years ago, the only trouble with having grass paths around the borders is the manoeuvrability of the mower, my driving skills need the Jensen Button school of driving touch. Still just about managing to swerve round the corners, got stuck only once. Keep digging there Stroller, as we used to say in my much younger days DIG IT MAN DIG IT. I always wondered what they meant, now I know. Lovely blog, look forward to the next. - Barbara (Oliveoil)

17 Jul, 2010

garden looks pretty stroller and what nice things to say, it is a lovely site and does make us spend more and plant more to lol

17 Jul, 2010

Ah stroller, I love the clematis and the roses they looks really great together. your garden is lovely and so are you

17 Jul, 2010

Stroller you are so lovely and funny! I used to be so ashamed of having a green thumb and hearing people say, dear you do love plants don't you? They did not mean that in a kind way mind you. I just could not understand how a person could walk past a garden or a plant nusery and not stop and look. I felt like I was an oddball in the Twilight Zone. I felt that maybe they were right and I should scale back on "my plant habit". Oh, but where to begin, which plant could I sacrifice, as it was hard to find friends, family, or coworkers who would agree to take a plant and care for it. I finally decided that this is who I am and God made me this way for a reason, so I kept all my plants and grew more from seed!! Now that I have found this web site I finally feel like I have found a place with people like me. Thank you everyone!!

17 Jul, 2010

Imenra...I know just how you feel! :))

17 Jul, 2010

10.30pm - Just in from weeding the front garden, dusk is falling here, but I got it all done while it is dry. Yes it's a great friendly gardening 'club' and I too am so glad I found it!

17 Jul, 2010

It's been a joy since I joined - and a learning curve! It seems I learn something new every day from all you gardners. More power to our trowels!

18 Jul, 2010

I've ordered a mortimer sackler from David Austins, sounds perfect, thanks Oo:-)

18 Jul, 2010

Just got 5 free clematis from Gardeners World yesterday. Know what you mean about this site encouraging you to buy more plants, everyone has such beautiful collections in their gardens it makes you want to expand your own planting schemes, I for one love GoY :o)))

18 Jul, 2010

Hallo Stroller - Happy Anniversary and many more. Lovely flowers - so good for you - and I for one could not live without my flowers- I suspect that's why GOY means so much to us all...we all feel like that! :-))))

P.S. I like that new word - 'Goyeritis'! It says it all...;-)

By the way - I've just realised that I passed my 3rd GOY Anniversary a month ago yesterday! YAYY!!

18 Jul, 2010

Congratulations Spitz. to you and your boys. You were so busy with your open day no wonder you forgot. How is Henry.

18 Jul, 2010

Goyeritis sounds perfect to me!!!!!!!!!! Granmage lavender doesnt work for me any more flowery remedies?. What are you and bloomer like ha ha
Lauram I feel so sorry for you having to put all those animals down must be absolutely awful. Glad we are all here to lighten your load and make you smile

18 Jul, 2010

Thanks, Scotsgran - he hasn't had any more seizures, thank goodness, and is 'looking' fine. We have to wait until he does have another one, and then he must go on medication. Better than carrying on having more fits, though! The vets are pretty sure he has idiopathic epilepsy. :-((

18 Jul, 2010

For sleep Great hows about Lavender, Rescue Remedy for Night and Valerian!!? ZZZzzzzzzzzzz We hope!

18 Jul, 2010

What all at once Lulu, you could overdose there, lol. It is something I don't suffer from, well not after a day in the garden, thank goodness, head touches the pillow and I am a gonner, unless the oh is snoring and that can reach great decibels, he has no trouble sleeping either. lol. I find that if I wake in the night and cannot get back to sleep I put on the tv and I am back out like a light, it bores me to sleep I think. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz!

18 Jul, 2010

Good idea,Oliveoil,,it sends me to sleep most of the time Lol.Thats why I play on here most evenings...much more interesting :o)

18 Jul, 2010

Very true Bloomer very true.

18 Jul, 2010

I was kinda joking. Nothing really helps, if you can't sleep, you can't sleep. I can do 12 hours in the garden and still not. But always fall asleep in front of the wood burner watching tv, go upstairs and wide awake again! Poor dog follows me around all night and she ends up really sleepy!

18 Jul, 2010

Well this just says it all, Ive been away a couple of days to the Upton on seven jazz festival which was brill and come back to so many great comments. Mind after saying that the withdrawal symptons were starting to kick in, kept thinking hope I`ve staked those little trees ok etc, etc, what a head case.
You wont be disapointed with your rose Bornagain,
Lulu it must be terrible when you can`t sleep, I must admit I`m like Oliveoil after a good day in the garden my head touches the pillow and I`m away.
Spritz glad to hear that Henry is looking fine, at least it must ease your mind to know that something can be done should he have another seizure which we all hope he doesn`t have.
Must dash as OH has just offered a trip to the GC to find a Bird Bath for my new corner, and thats an offer I can`t refuse.

19 Jul, 2010

Yay! a good (ish) nights sleep! Slept on the sofa and came to bed at 7am up at 9.45. Feel so much better for it, have just pulled out most of the weeds on the gravel driveway. Trying to dig two big holes for my Rugusa roses, am met with layer after layer of limestone which is what happens if you live in the Cotswolds!! Have just been given a big planting job of 100 Hidcote Lavenders and about 80 Heucheras, good thing is, the garden center where I will order them will give me loads of free points so hope to have about £30 to spend on plants for my garden!!!

19 Jul, 2010

Glad you got some rest Lulu

19 Jul, 2010

Oh dear Lulu33 did this bad habit start in childhood. I have a son like you. From the age of 3 weeks he never had a full nights sleep and he was a nightmare. Doc said it just showed he was brighter than average. Turned out to be true, so there are compensations.
Comforting news about Henry Spitz. Having a diagnosis means you can cope with the treatment Not knowing is awful. Take care of each other.

19 Jul, 2010

"Idiopathic" epilepsy -drives you mad doesn't it, this word idiopathic - just means what you already know anyway, you've got whatever it is, but they don't know why.

19 Jul, 2010

Scotsgran, thank you for your interest!! Off and on for 5 years and now it's the hot flushes that are keeping me awake! Hopefully not too much information sorry boys!

19 Jul, 2010

You do not need as much sleep as you get older anyway and you can take a catnap to catch up LOL

19 Jul, 2010

Bamboo and Spitz the following link takes you to a site written by an Australian Vet about the condition. The diagnosis should not be seen as negative. Given Henrys mum had little movements would seem to indicate hereditary factors and since her life has not been affected I think having read this article that we can be reassured about Henry. He is still Henry anyway and we all wish him a long and happy life. http://www.dogstuff.info/canine_idiopathic_epilepsy_muns.html

19 Jul, 2010

Thanks lulu33 A good night sleep for me is only 4 hours and thats with sleeping pills!!!!!. Being a nurse and doing so many night shifts messed up my system. Haven't had a decent nights sleep in 20 years!!

19 Jul, 2010

This is getting to be a very long blog!! I suppose it's 4 hours a night for most of us then!

19 Jul, 2010

Thank goodness for Goy when you cannot sleep.

19 Jul, 2010

I second that !! When I work in my garden then I know that I will have a decent night's sleep. I usually get about 3-4 hours of sleep and it is always in short intervals.

20 Jul, 2010

I have just looked up the Pamjatj Serdtza clematis it is reputedly only 1.8m high. That is brilliant as you will then be able to enjoy the flowers instead of them being so far away that only the birds enjoy them. I will look out for it.

20 Jul, 2010

Sorry to disagree Scotsgran, but its absolutely not true that we require less sleep as we age, apparently! Lulu33, you have my deepest sympathy on the hot flushes front - I had them every 2 hours from the age of 49 onwards, non stop, and now (at just 60 by a week) I'm still having them, but not necessarily 2 hourly, sometimes its 4 hourly. Between the flushes and the arthritis, sleep?! Oh yea, that's that thing I used to do really really easily all those years ago...
One tip though - don't eat! I find if I eat very, very little, I don't have any flushes, they seem to be linked to digestive activity. Not that I'm thin, let me tell you, lol..!

20 Jul, 2010

I based my assertion on experience rather than scientific fact Bamboo so you could be right but not everyone needs the same amount of sleep anyway. It depends on a lot of factors. When I was nursing if a child could not sleep and wanted a snack we used to give them cereal with milk. It works for me too. Hope your problem sorts itself out soon.

20 Jul, 2010

Ooh er Bamboo, I'm on the thin side anyway!! Been having the H.F's since 45, am 47 tomorrow! Am swallowing Eve primrose in the hope that it helps a bit.
Not sure if Stroller or Great are blokes, if so, sorry to be sharing this rather non gardening topic with you lol!!!

20 Jul, 2010

Ha ha, I've given up worrying about it Scotsgran - it's lovely being more or less retired, I can sleep whenever I like, even if it is in two hourly increments, lol. You're right about the amount of sleep though - I come from a family of sleepers, we all need 9 or 10 hours a night to feel human. Seem to remember stumbling groggily through the years when I had young children and very little sleep.

20 Jul, 2010

No need to apologise Lulu, must admit tho glad that I`ve got the hot flushes out of the way.
Scotsgran the height and the colour was the reason I Chose this one

20 Jul, 2010

Great aka me I am a 50 yr old woman Lulu been having hot flushes since I was 48 and a half lol most of the time I feel as though someones turned my thermostat up to maxium!!!! I seem to sleep in short bursts like Imenra. I don't need time to get myself together to start my day. Once im awake im a wake. Went on holiday with my daughter once and she couldn't believe how often I woke up and tried to have a conversation with her at ungodly hours.. Haven't been away with her since mmmm

20 Jul, 2010

Good night everybody xxx

20 Jul, 2010

Well I cant improve on all the nice things people have sent above, its a great place, and fabulous to know you are not the only stoop-back, sore kneed, thorn scarred, plant mad, empty pocketed druggie on the block. By the way, have you downsized to a tent yet Stroller?

18 Sep, 2010

Stroller - how on earth did I miss this blog ? I can only echo your sentiments about GoY - it's such a friendly, informative and encouraging gardening forum ! I'm so glad I came across it purely by accident. : o )))

18 Sep, 2010

I am feeling quite at home here on GOY too....lots of ideas, encouragement and more importantly so many positive blogs. I need that kind of input in my life so it's a great tonic for me to be a part of the GOY site.

I, like ShirleyT, came across this site by accident but I had been searching for a few months to find some good advice on gardening. Surely have found that here :).
