When the world turns black and white

Snow falls silently and leaves a quiet world, a black and white world where everything changes. A bit like going back in time.

A world of white:

Who was here last night:

Crystallised sparkles on the fir:

As Autumn makes way for the winter snow:

And then the world stood still and I felt as though I was entering the world of the wood, nature’s world, Robin’s world, he didn’t seem aware that I was there:

Below the snow line:

Mushrooms served with snowy sauce?

The spreading branches of the oak:

Back to back trees with their stark black trunks:

The thaw begins:

There is something ancient and bewitching about the old trees:

And back into the world of colour:

There is something to be said for both, time in the silence is good to appreciate once in a while?

Wonderful ST. So quite & peaceful, a world away from blocked motorways & snow ploughs.

Sticki I found your photos and commentry very calming and relaxing. These are one of the many types of scenes that makes the english countryside so beautiful.

5 Feb, 2012

Simply lovely.....

5 Feb, 2012

I was brought up among woodland like this and I used to think that the silence and stillness you get on a day like this is the woodland holding its breath. Maybe it is ......

5 Feb, 2012

I like that Oji..... a nice thought. I really love the silence, its one of natures mysteries.

5 Feb, 2012

I like to think all the little animals and birds are tucked up somewhere secret trying to keep warm. :))

Love the way snow makes everything peaceful.

5 Feb, 2012

I like the raindrop pic :o)

wonderful set of photo's Sticki, i do love the snowy covered tree branches, i miss that in the park, it used to be quite enchanting walking in the snow with that soft glow from the snow...

magic !

Sticki, I love that silence you get after a fresh fall of snow. I had a walk in the country park this morning and there was snow and ice up there (4 miles from here) but nothing at home. As I drove home I reflected on how much I love the seasons in UK. I do wish winter were shorter here, but on days like today, it has so much to offer. Not long now until the spring comes along! :))

5 Feb, 2012

thank you everyone, i like that woodland holding its breath oji and the secret hideaways of the animals sheila!

hywel i think you are very brave to come on the walk at all, glad you liked the raindrop!

A lovely walk,Sticki..from the comfort of my chair..:o) I agree, the silence is such a different kind of quiet..if you know what I mean..I enjoy all the seasons..ok,not this one as much, but it serves a purpose sometimes,by giving the plants a blanket from ice..and water when it thaws..all part of wonderful nature :o)

5 Feb, 2012

thanks yorkshire and bloomer

We have lots more snow here in Gainsborough about 4 inches and I cannot see any of my garden boo hoo it is very cold it was nice to see such lovely pictures thank you Sticki.

6 Feb, 2012

You are welcome Olive, a lot of this has melted now, the roads are fine and there is only snow at ground level, none on the trees or bushes.

6 Feb, 2012

It worked I slept all night through!!!!!!!!!! lol :)

6 Feb, 2012

thats fabulous pixi!!!!

6 Feb, 2012

Still lots of snow on trees but it is beginning to melt a little, now the fog has descended on us.

6 Feb, 2012

some weather has good aspects but i cant think of one for fog ~ its not at all nice!!

6 Feb, 2012

Horrible and the oh has gone off to work and it has come down since he went out. It is never too bad in daylight but horrible in the dark. We came home last night and could see it hanging around but we got back in before it got bad.

6 Feb, 2012

6 Feb, 2012

hopefully you will have a better day??

6 Feb, 2012

Did you try the lettuce juice then Pixi!
Lovely blog Sticki. I think the most exciting thing about snow are the wild animal paw prints left for us to see where they have been and gone. (before 3 large naughty dogs trash them all!)

6 Feb, 2012

fascinating arent they!? i like watching minty when she goes outside ~ first thing she checks are the scents ~ who has been in my garden!!?

6 Feb, 2012

Millie is terrorizing the bird table as I type! Naughty puss.

6 Feb, 2012

i think minty is curled up somewhere sleeping!

6 Feb, 2012

Millie's gone back to her hutch!

6 Feb, 2012

i found minty by mistake ~ picked up the quilt ~ she must have been under it!!! she is outside now.

6 Feb, 2012

Simply wonderful Stickie especially when I'm looking at it sat near a warm fire having a cuppa !

6 Feb, 2012

Oh, thanks Rose, but your blog is brilliant! It is sooooo funny!

6 Feb, 2012

love the bit of yellow at the end

6 Feb, 2012

maybe a bit more cheerful than the black and white??

6 Feb, 2012

Thanks Stickie, I aim to please!

6 Feb, 2012

but i think that foot print reminds me of one i saw on something about a yettie, this wasn't close to the house was it?

6 Feb, 2012

What a lovely blog Sticki, very calming and beautiful. I love the tree trunks with the snow down the side of the dark bark.

6 Feb, 2012

You certainly did Rose!

StevieTT where did you see the yetti ~ this footprint was yards from my house and no the fence is not very high

thanks homebird, those tree trunks fascinated me too.

6 Feb, 2012

well if you hear something knocking and a large dark furry silhouette then dont open the door!!

6 Feb, 2012

wont it be the honey monster then?

better put up a sign i think:

DO NOT KNOCK ON THIS DOOR IF YOU ARE A YETTI ~ GO NEXT DOOR

?

6 Feb, 2012
