2011 Review - Come Dine with Stevie, The Chutney Tasting and how it went...

NB WARNING – Blog contains images of Filipino women in frenzy.

That’s right folks, gonna take you down to chutney town.
For those of you who have been following my chutney escapades and signed up to the WI chutney fan club , yes the results are in for my prototype chutneys. Made from all my veg patch produce : )

To do a full year review would take to long (and would probably turn your brains to chutney!!), You will have seen the previous 3 blogs of:

Skyscapes of the post apocalypse,
where I describe preparing for the coming apocalypse by making some chutney (hey who says you storage foods have to be boring!!)

Chutney, made with emotion – DVD extras,
a reaction to those who were actually disappointed that I was not manically depressed, I hit them back with yellow tomatoes.

and
A story to Relish (from the American south to a back street in Bangkok in one easy to go wrong recipe disaster),
dreamlike inspiration from an angel (ok so she was asian! what of it) overcoming an artichoke related disaster and at the same time inventing a new substance which can also be used to grease heavy machinery.

SO what happened…here’s the story…

Ok went down to Devon and had an initial quite mini taste on the side (just to see if they were edible ; )
Yes ok I admit I also bought one of those £3 cheese trays!

Hmmm looks…..ok….on a cracker

Ok so later, we went over to the neighbors, where! Bong is cooking : /

Then Glen eats a bit of relish

Seems to go with the chicken : )

Ok everyone gather round, I want a picture for my chutney blog, make it LOOK like you are enjoying it. (youngun looks at it in disbelief)
NO thats looks totally false SMILE like you LOVE it!!

Yes Better, this could almost be convincing (apart from youngun who refuses to eat it)

Bong (now almost drunk) goes for a big mouthful of Beetroot n Apple chut

Drops half of it and stains the carpet……forever

It then reacts with the drink and turns him into Elvis!! (NB this pose is normal for Bong)

As I try to escape I am then rushed by a gaggle of Filipino girls and am over powered (oh dear ; )

and as the sun rose over Dartmoor, the first tasting was over. Next Xmas evening

Ok first the 3 classic Xmas shots
1- Turkey

2- Xmas pudding with flame

3- My nephews forehead (with instructions for where the contents of his cracker were hidden)

A quick shot of my beautiful niece Sian who will be a famous actress soon so watch out. Ok the next chutney taste off

See if you can spot them in the evening buffet ; )

We are all stuffed so It might backfire, but then Mum and aunty Val dive in

They love it. So much so that Val n Frank try to steal away the Beetroot and Orange and force £3 into my hand for the huge jar of it. I also Give my brother the only jar Green Tom Chut but I think thats a 7-8 out of 10.

Just a quick shot also to put pay to the accusation from my last blog that all I got my mum for xmas was two halfs of a Pallet!!. This is her blender and she loves it OK?

Ok, back home for the final showdown and I invite a couple of friends for some serious critique

The scene is set

And yes also a good excuse to get rid of all that cheese thats stinking out my fridge ; )

I also did this with my failure crop of garlic

I did a starter of sausage cooked in the relish with some mash but not too much.
Ok lets Go

That’s it, protect your children from the gaze of chutney publicity

and so the results are in.

Here they are, the come dine with Stevie results

in at
1 – Cucumber Pickle with 24 points, yes the pickles won it, at
2 – Beetroot and Orange Chut with 23 points, a close second,
Joint 3rd
3 – Beetroot and Apple 20
3 – Yellow Tom Chut 20
5 – Red thai chilli artichoke relish 19
6 – Spiced Courgette Chut 17
7 – Yellow Tom Pickle 14
8 – Mega mix Chut 7

As I gave away my only big jar of Green tom chut I would put that in about 4th ish.

Ok so thats that, now have to figure out how I can get shot of the half cupboard full I still have left ; )

If you comment then let me know when you birthday is ok (before you hit ‘like’ ; )

Esteemed Sir
Chuckle / Chutney Maker

It has come to our attention that you are currently producing a high quality super food which would surely benefit our athletes in the run up to the olympics this year.

Perhaps you would consider a small sponsor ship of an appropriate event; as the taste has a kick in it perhaps you would put your name to the kick-boxing event, we would of course ensure that the chutney is on sale at all olympic retailers.

If the above event is to your liking please let us know asap, alternatively if you have a better suggestion we would be willing to discuss this.

Dear Ms Pickles

Thank you for your letter, and first let me take this opportunity to apologise for staining your dress with the beetroot. I would also like to apologise for any manhandling, its just I'm under alot of stress with my WI case coming up.
Yes I have been having some successful trials with massaging the relish into muscles but these are on hold with requests for female staff to be present.
I am however not sure of the branding of 'Chutney Kick-boxing' but I would lie to trial this with any of your available female staff . Failing that then get me the hot dog relish deal would you?
I also have had interest in the relish for use at the winter Olympics, to grease the bobsleigh runners but this is confidential for Team GB so keep shhtum ok.

Yours
Stevie TT
The Chutney massage parlor

5 Jan, 2012

Dear Mr Terrible
I think there has been a case of mistaken identity?

I shall send the Bobsleigh team to check out the suitability of the chutney for greasing the runners.

5 Jan, 2012

I love cheese but I'm not sure about all the different cheeses on one bit of bread. What a mash up.

5 Jan, 2012

That's what you get when you buy the discount cheese trays. The red leicester go faster stripes : ) My excuse is to experience the full range of tastes with the chutneys

5 Jan, 2012

Chutney massage parlour, Yurk!

7 Jan, 2012

Got to use it somehow!

7 Jan, 2012

if you put it in large jars it could be for weight lifting???

7 Jan, 2012

That would be good for the upper arms,Sticki..one in each hand..:o)

7 Jan, 2012

Save it for the apocalypse Stevie...............some sub-conscience chutney making frenzy, all stashed and ready. OR, oh heck I've nothing to eat, all because of some crazy massage idea!

7 Jan, 2012

Yep when I am am the last known survivor I'll have the last laugh : /

7 Jan, 2012

sounds like day of the triffids??? and there is another similar film that my youngest used to like, a man wakes up in a london hospital alone and he is the only one alive i think??? but i cant remember the rest.

7 Jan, 2012

bit of a shame really that the chutney is so good that it kept you alive through an apocalypse and then there is no one left to sell it to ~ you would have been a millionaire.

7 Jan, 2012

He was one of only a few that could see as he had had his eyes wrapped, everyone else went blind watching the meteors,
What profiteth a man if he gaineth the whole world but loseth his soul or lose the whole world just for a jareth of chutney

7 Jan, 2012

in all the years of sitting in church three times every sunday i never heard that verse!!! i would definitely have remembered a jareth of chutney.

7 Jan, 2012

Its the New 'chutney' Testament, its the same but with added chutney at the last supper

7 Jan, 2012

stop making me laugh, my dad would be having some sort of apoplectic fit if he saw that. i can just imagine a large jar of your pickles now on the table in leonardo's picture ~ what's the italian for pickle or chutney?

7 Jan, 2012

Well there are lots of thoughts about hidden bits in leonardos' painting.. (pstt dont tell Bampy!!!!! shhhh)

7 Jan, 2012

he will be ultra busy if we tell him that!!!

did you read da vinci code?

7 Jan, 2012

'Can' you 'read' da vinci code, saw the film, I thought it was a comedy : 0. I thought aboit going round some of the churches round here, see all the stuff on the floor and walls and then just make up a load of utter balloney, and wait for the coaches of Japanese tourists. ''Yes this is where JC spent alot of his missing 8 years as a carpenter, yes come this way and for an extra £5 I can show you the holy Potting bench grail he made'' ; )

7 Jan, 2012

I read it then i saw the film. can imagine you would make it a very good comedy. not sure japanese tourists will look for JC???

did he make pallets too??

7 Jan, 2012

I couldn't finish the book! But rather enjoyed The 5th Gospel according to Mary Magdalene!!

7 Jan, 2012

is that another one of his lulu?

7 Jan, 2012

Madeleine cakes stuffed with Chutney?

7 Jan, 2012

Can't remember, but when I re read it a few years ago I found I had grown out of all that kinda stuff!! Even though If I were Mary Mag, I sure would have alot to say!!

7 Jan, 2012
