I want it for my collection !! :D

Actually I'm wondering if it's real :)

Wonder how old it is...

That is some Cactus..!

I put huge cacti usa into google.......

Saguaro cactus......(not the one pictured) grows on average to 40 foot....largest recorded 78 feet!

sorry Hywel you can't have one they only grow in the Sonoran desert at the 'organ pipe (thats what they're called think john wayne) National Monument in the american west.....

I love the one in this picture, another usa national treasure

that's awesome - can see why it needs to be fenced off, it'd be a prob to stumble against it!

Read years ago that people used to steal Saguero Cactu, dig them up to put in their own gardens. I think it's a protected species now.

I don't think it would be worth stealing one to grow it in the UK though Fran!

Sorry Hywel, they don't sell big enough plant pots. But I will save you the original photo and you can frame it and put it in your conservatory to play Lets Pretend...

Pam , afraid it isn't the Saguaero, as that one is more columnar, a lot thinner and less spiny. (Thank you for looking though!)There is one growing in the Lanzarote in the Jardin de Cactus but none of their photos is labelled. Paul travelled such a lot I can't even be sure where this photo was taken. Sadly have been unable to find out the name. Over to you Hywel!

6 May, 2014

Oh my! you wouldn't what to bump into that!

6 May, 2014

It doesn't look real to me. The areoles and spines are too big, and the shape is wrong ... it looks unnatural.
Sorry to be so pessimistic ... I sound ungrateful ...

No just knowledgeable Hywel

You're right, it doesn't. The only other pic I can find is actually a sculpture in the Jardin de Cactus in Lanzarote.
I want to think its real but the growing points are the wrong shape aren't they? It was a nice idea while it lasted... I wish Paul had labelled the photo.

Phew! Found it and our cacti expert Hywel is correct!!

its a giant 8m high green metallic sculpture it stands at the entrance to the Jardin du Cacti Lanzarote

I found lots of images but no one said what it was, except the Lanzarote guide book.....I think you could put that into google

or try www.lanzaroteguidebook.com/information/sigtseeing/attractions

Hywel you'd be in 7th heaven, there are thousands of cacti in acres of land.....

7 May, 2014

I tried that Pam but it said the page was unavailable ...
so I googled 'giant metal cactus' and looked at the images, and there are some photos of it there :)

Thanks for showing it Steragram ... it was fun to see :)

I often can't make the links work Hywel, still at least you found it !
Jardin du Cacti Lanzarote into google may show you some big cushioned shaped plants

Metal?? Good grief, no wonder I couldn't find out what it was. Thank you - I didn't even know our son had visited the Jardin de Cactus. I wonder if they stick giant metal flowers on it every year...
I've just Googled Jardin de Cactus again Hywel and it appeared, no problem so might be worth trying again.

The link didn't work because of a spelling mistake! You wrote "sigtseeing" instead of "sigHtseeing"! I put the "H" in capital to show where you had gone wrong!

I looked at other pages on the "Jardin de Cactus" & found lots of interesting information - but I didn't see the big cactus above!

I think it would be Hywel's idea of paradise! LOL! :-D))

I didn't find it on their web pages. Try googling Giant Cactus Images and scroll down to the tenth row.
