Since we are not tropical and since we rely on irrigation to allow Cacti and Tree ferns to grow shoulder to shoulder you might say,i decided to call the latter “California Fusion gardening”. The whole enchilada of Colorado Blue Spruce next to an Avocado tree.
As far as heat? Its not hot for most of coastal California..and there is where tropical’s actually do best.
So I decided the best term would be “Suntropical”.lol..we get sun all spring- fall…plenty of that. That helps to make up for lower ambient air temperatures. 74f Summer days, not the hot 95f of the east coast or ..the real tropics.

What do you think?

Much like our "Subtropical Desert". Saguaros, Ficus nitida, and roses in the same yard! It's fun, if eclectic...but Blue Spruces here? Fuggetaboutit!! :)

hmmmm...Garden typing: exactitude of expression is amplification of understanding of the norm and inclusion of the unusual. ;-)) The more the merrier!?

Yep,Tug knows the game.

Well,I've gotten feedback in the past of the mix of plants. The why I usually answer is - the climate is conducive to it and,and with a world of plants out there, and me being here..Easier to bring to them to me, then me go to them.

Also with small lots..things can only be so far apart. Physics!
After awhile as you drive through California (AZ?),you realize EVERYBODY does it. Its normal.

I just wanted to coin phrases for posterity..ha.
