But WHERE were the flags?

I expected the full works including a brass band and bunting! Well, not really….

What I DID get was much better – a lovely welcoming smile and a hug! Where was I? I was at Louise’s pretty garden – a trip up the M5 from my ‘bit’ of Somerset to hers!

I’ll show you around – maybe you’d like to see the garden through a different pair of eyes!

Walk up the path with me – but look just down to your left on the way – there’s a mix of mauve and purple flowers to admire!

And a little further along the theme continues…

Across the lawn to the right, you can’t miss a lovely splash of colour – Coreopsis in two shades of pinky-mauve, growing next to a beautiful, low-growing, deep pink coloured Gaura. Its foliage has dark pink tips, too!

If you sit down on the seat at the side of the front garden, and look across the lawn – you’ll see a very pretty corner, full of colour.

It makes you want to go and look more closely at the flowers there – like these beauties! Their name is ‘Sole Mio’ and how appropriate!

If you go back to the seat, to your right are two dark – leaved Phormium plants…’Platt’s Black’, I believe…with a yellow-green Heuchera as a contrast peeping out under the arching leaves. This grouping is just so eye-catching and attractive!

Let’s look at the back garden, which, as Louise has told us, is on three levels. You walk up the first set of steps, passing between two variegated shrubs – the ‘Ugni molinae’ that we’ve seen on Louise’s photos. Sadly, they weren’t in flower today, but the shrubs’ evergreen foliage is a wonderful variegated mix of colour.

The colours of this Sambucus nigra with the dark grasses and caramel Heuchera round its stems is the next striking planting that caught my eye.

It’s a small area – but such a lot to see! A rockery with alpine plants tucked into the gravel, Clematis growing through evergreen and deciduous shrubs, borders, roses against the fence, a beautifully weathered terracotta pot full of glowing amber Heuchera, and seats to persuade you to pause awhile and admire Louise’s hard work and lovely flowers – not that I needed much persuasion!

I haven’t done it all justice – please forgive me, Louise, if I missed out your favourite plants! But it was a lovely, happy sunlit afternoon – and I really enjoyed my visit…even without the band and the flags!

Thank you Louise. X

Thanks for the blog Spritz :)
The weather really made it happen as it was blazing sunshine all day yesterday and i think all gardens look better in the sun !

It was a talkative get together - as it usually is when we meet up and plants dominate !
Tea and double chocolate Cupcakes were also on the agenda but Spritz turned the Cupcakes down .... so guess who finished them ??? :)

The next time I go - (hint, hint) there may well be a few changes...my spy tells me that some extensions to borders are in the planning stage!

Well, it's much better to have planting space than lawn, isn't it!
