Of course, I was a child bride....

Well, I must have been, because we celebrated our 43rd Anniversary last week! I had a real treat – we went to London and spent the day at Wisley!

My husband is not a gardener, but even he had to admit that it was a fantastic place to visit. I took a few photos while we were there – well – 115 of them! There would have been more only my camera gave up the ghost…

Would you like to take a look at some of them?

Of course, at this time of year, the ground is covered in Narcissi and other bulbs.

I loved this double.

Fritillaries were everywhere, too – including this more unusual one.

A red Corydalis? Straight onto my wish-list!

And so many species of Scillas – a sea of blue.

Trilliums – in three different colours (possibly more if we’d hunted for them!) This one is also on the wish-list!

Have you got space in your garden for this spectacular rockery? No, nor have I!

On to the Alpine Houses – this is the view down one side! The plants were all in flower and all perfect. That’s because they have facilities ‘behind the scenes’ to grow these beautiful plants and then when one finishes flowering, it’s replaced by something else equally beautiful! Clever, eh?

I took far too many photos to post them all – here’s just a couple or three.

Then we wandered on to take a look inside the new glasshouse – and spotted this wonderful blossom with a river of Muscari under it!

In the glasshouse, there were ‘WOW’ plants and groupings at every turn! Orchids galore..

And wonderful succulents and cacti.

We climbed Battleston Hill to see the Camellias and Rhododendrons – I got one photo …and then my camera died! :-(

Of course I visited the Plant Centre – and yes, of course I bought some plants! One was the Erysimum linifolium ‘Variegatum’, which can now be crossed off my wish-list! Unfortunately, the list has not got any shorter, due to the wonderful plants spotted on our meanderings around this magical garden.

Hmmm - this blog reminds me I haven't been to Wisley for all of three weeks! It's only twenty miles away and their Plant Centre keeps calling me. Glad you enjoyed your day there spritz, even if their soil conditions are completely different from yours

Happy Anniversary Spritz! I, too, don't believe the way the years pass! I'm sure someone made a mistake somewhere and I'm really only thirty-something! Sadly the wrinkles, arthritis, and failing memory say otherwise! You obviously had a day to remember! Lovely photos!

Belated happy anniversary, and loved your blog & photos.

Hi, Congratulations on your anniversary. Well done!

Your photos are lovely, that white daffy with the orange is really lovely. My garden is all full up, I dare not contemplate buying any more. But there are so many lovely plants that I would really love to have. I just have to harden my heart and stop taking my purse of visits to where they sell plants.

Belated wishes on your 43rd Anniversary.......it will be our 46th in June so that should make you feel a little younger.
What a smashing way to spend the day, and so many beautiful plants to look at and want, we bought a pink Corydalis a few weeks ago and the blue one to replace another winter loss.

7 Apr, 2009

Thanks, DD - that red Corydalis is a definite must-have!

Marge - thanks and don't forget the plantaholics' anthem - 'There's always room for just one more!'

My camera went to the shop this afternoon - and it is a very dead camera - not just poorly - a bent lens, so I was told. Wisley was obviously too much for it!

So I have a new one - and I shall try our insurance company tomorrow!

A Very Happy Belated Anniversary to you both! Does this mean you're having your 50th birthday also this year? :-)

Ah, Wisley, how I miss it! Used to go there up to 3 times a year, when my brother-in-law lived in nearby Cobham.

And those fritillaries (my favourite plants)............sigh!

Many Thanks for sharing your wonderful outing. :-)

Thanks, David. I wish! I am juuuuusssst a bit older than that - but I like being retired, so I won't moan!

Have you been to any of the other RHS gardens? I've been to Rosemoor twice. It's a lot smaller, but I do like it!
