Amazing!

I went round the garden on Saturday, en route to the greenhouse to pot up the lily bulbs that had arrived.

I was amazed at how many plants still have flowers. Yes, we live in the (relatively) mild South-west of the UK, and no, we haven’t had a frost yet, but it is November!

It’s the right time for Winter Jasmine to be in flower, of course.

Abelia grandiflora is a lovely, late flowering shrub, so being in flower now isn’t really amazing.

Nor is it amazing to see hardy Chrysanthemums in full bloom.

I’ve still got Dahlias going strong, too.

But this Clematis doesn’t seem to realise that it’s not supposed to be flowering. There are still buds to come, too.

I found several roses around the garden – it’s November, not June!

Some of my Geraniums seem to want to carry on a bit longer, too.

And I found several Penstemons with flowers on them.

As well as annuals…

I haven’t been able to bring myself to replant the two troughs in the back garden yet – they’re still looking really cheerful. It seems amazing that I planted them back in May! The yellow-flowered plants have been wonderful – I just can’t remember their name!

There are Agastache, Asters, Anthemis, Primroses, Lamium, Achilleas, Persicaria, Salvias, Inulas, Parahebes, Scabious, Knautia, Gaura and several more, including one brave solitary Gladiolus that just might open its buds…

And it has – so I’m adding it to the list of amazing flowers.

Just perfect. Amazing!

In all, I counted well over forty plants still in flower – now that’s amazing!

My amazing-est shrub that seems to be in flower every time I look at it is ‘doing its thing’ of course, so I’ll end this blog with its photo.

My Bill Wallace is still going strong B, the one you sent me. I've not much flower now though, but lots of autumn colour instead. Great to see all your lovely flowers though :)

What a lot of colour you still have there Spritz, my winter Jasmine has lots of buds, though I will have to wait a couple of weeks more for them to flower. I always forget about it too, then it's a nice surprise come end of November. Like you I still have dahlias in bloom, another week and then I shall be storing the tubers, I was caught out in 2010 with all the early snows and lost them all....:((.

Gosh, lucky you, so much colour still to enjoy. Lovely photos.:)

The variations in this little island of ours is truly remarkable, we have had quite a few frosts including friday and saturday nights so most of the colour here is from the leaves either still on or falling

Goodness me B that is well and truly AMAZING, even we had a frost the other morning, must be lovely to see so many blooms at this time of the year.

It's nice to see late flowers. It's a mild autumn isn't it, and the plants are enjoying it I think. Lovely to see your November flowers Barbara :o)

Superb - I think you've got more in November than I had all summer!!
Lovely cheerful blog Spritzhenry :)

Wow.....they look so fresh too. We have lovely Autumn colour but no flowers.

That is a splendid array of colour for ANY time of the year, Spritz. I guess your garden must be quite sheltered.
It broke my heart, but two days ago we too had, finally, to uproot all the summer planting from a dozen big planters to get the winter plants and bulbs in. Everything looks so bare. Well, it would if all but two of our rose bushes hadn't suddenly burst into loads of bloom. If the rain would stop and the sun would break through, and we weren't knee-deep in fallen fig leaves, it'd look like June out there!
Lovely photos!

Thank you. :-)

Yes, the leaves are falling off - and my gardener is raking them up every time she comes. That's an action I can't do (and mustn't) yet.

At some point I'll have to take the plants out of the two troughs - probably when the first frost arrives.

Oh, I found that my Senecio pulcher is trying to flower yesterday! I must get a photo. That Gladiolus is going to be yellow. It is opening! Amazing, eh?

Like you say Spritz it is truly AMAZING that so many flowers are still strutting their stuff. Like you I would be loathe to empty those back garden troughs. I can`t get over the fact that I have a flower in full bloom and lots of buds on my passion flower `Contance Elliot` despite already having two nights of frost in the last fortnight.

13 Nov, 2012

That's truly amazing! :-D)

Absolutely Amazing... :o)

14 Nov, 2012

The Gladiolus is in flower - I must take its photo tomorrow! :-D)

Because you raved about your amazingest shrub, I bought two, one of which is variegated, and yup, both in flower too. We've had two weird years Spritz really. Last year I had amazing flowers over such long periods. Something really is happening to our weather patterns, on my way back from walking the girls, I saw a lovely azalea in full flower:-)

16 Nov, 2012

How odd - and amazing, Ba!

I'm so pleased you've got the Coronilla. :-)

I saw a variegated one the other day, but I really, really can't fit one in, although I was sorely tempted.

17 Nov, 2012

Mine's in a pot, you could keep it in one until it got too big. I had a cercidiphyllum in a pot for years!:-))

17 Nov, 2012

god its still summer in your garden, so much still in bloom, all mine are dead now except one yellow gladioli, lovely flowers x

17 Nov, 2012

Thanks - I certainly know it's autumn from all the leaves falling off!

Ba - no more pots! I've lost count.

18 Nov, 2012

Well then I must put a pic on of mine:-)

19 Nov, 2012

Yes please! :-)

20 Nov, 2012

I'm afraid most of it was under water yesterday...but it was nice while it lasted.
