Exciting boxes!

For obvious reasons, I haven’t been able to get out to any Garden Centres or Nurseries until very recently, and up until the end of April, I hadn’t spent a single penny on plants…I resisted ordering any seeds or plug plants, as I knew I couldn’t look after them.

Then I had an urge to fill the gaps on the stream bank – so mail order sprang to mind.
Remember member Vicky1? She and her husband hold the National collections of Heucheras and Heucherellas.

I had a browse on their website and ordered three Heucheras and three Heucherellas. What a difficult choice! I ended up with a shortlist…

It’s so exciting when a courier knocks at the door – with a box for me! Of course I knew what was inside, but oh dear – she included their catalogue! So tempting.

Six well-packed strong little plants – I think I might pot them up for a while before I plant them out.

Do you remember when I lost my Juniper on the steam bank? I replanted the area with roses in tawny and amber shades, and the Heucheras will end up between the roses.

The Heucherellas are going in the path border. I have one there already, and it seems to like it there.

The next exciting box, due any time now, should have two roses in it – climbing ‘Handel’ and ‘Lavender Lassie’.

Internet shopping is great – especially as I can do it from my comfy chair! Now which website shall I investigate next? Hmmmm…

You're so right, Nariz. I haven't learned to pace myself yet. I did too much yesterday and ended up with pain again. :-((

A lesson learned Spritz. Its hard to know exactly the right moment to say enough is enough when you feel the need to keep extending what you can manage. I love your new plants. Did you see Vicky and Richard won another Gold at Chelsea this year. These will look lovely where you are going to plant them. We'll look forward to seeing the photos.

lovely heucheras B. Take care now.

See Spritz, I told you....it's so easy to get hooked on internet shopping. I've had loads of good plants in the post, some very large ones too. I haven't ordered any heucheras this year, but will get going now with Plantagogo again. All my plants from there have done very well. I'm going to get some heucheras that like some sun for my front garden. It's like the birthdays I read about in books when I was a child...you know...waiting for the postman to arrive with your pressies......unfortunately I wasn't from the well off middle classes lol;-)

Guess what! The next exciting box arrived this morning - two really healthy roses. :-)))

Apparently, they shouldn't be planted until mid-June so I'll need to 'park' them somewhere safe until then. They both have buds almost ready to open.

I've planted 6 Nicotiana this morning - that's all. I'll see how I feel later, whether I can carry on removing tulips from the back garden troughs. If I can't, I can't. :-((

Lovely colours Spritz they will go well with the rest in that area, I`m so pleased you are managing to do a bit but you must be careful and not overtire yourself, I bet you are getting lectures from all and sundry, its only because we care...

You're right, but I'm impatient to get my containers planted up. I should have done them much more slowly.

T&M do NOT have a good reputation, I'm afraid. Many of us on GoY have had bad experiences with them. I've stopped using them completely.

Lovely plant Spritz, I saw their stand at Chelsea yesterday, well worth a gold :-)
Please take it easy, your garden is so lovely even without the containers x

25 May, 2012

Well done on your newest additions. Nice to see you managing a little - isn't impatience a terrible thing :)

Who did you use for your roses? I've used Apuldram and was very impressed with their quality and prices. I even had a large Cercis Lavender Twist delivered in good condition in 2010 I think it was. Not too impressed with it so far, but it needs more sun I suppose than we got last year. Isn't it lovely that Vicky1 (Plantagogo) won another gold at Chelsea? Can't you ask your OH to empty your pots? I'm sure you'll enjoy telling him what to do:-)

26 May, 2012

He's busy cutting the grass and digging large holes for my new PINK Delphiniums, Ba. ;-)

He did empty the compost out of the three containers that had to be shifted around - one of my troughs was broken, so it's gone off to the tip, and he moved the others for me.

I've actually finished all my containers now! :-D)

You'll do better on line Pam, but congrats on the heuchera bargain:-) Spritz I think you need an extra husband lol and congratulations to you too on completion of your containers. Now you really must stop rubbing it in about the pink delphiniums, but wait until I find my Darling Sue...she'll be prettier than Cymbeline:-)

26 May, 2012

Oh no she won't! ;-)

Sorry - I got the last two roses from Peter Beales, as they were the only grower that listed both 'Handel' and 'Lavender Lassie'. Last year's roses came from Cants and Harkness. Both excellent. :-))

27 May, 2012

I've just ordered from there B so I'm very glad you recommended them and Bornagain I think i may just have to have some of those Darling Sue's too! http://www.blackmore-langdon.com/product/DARLING+SUE

Thanks Susie, I'm going to Gardeners World Live at the NEC with any luck, I think I'll email them if they're going to be there and ask them if they'll have any at the show. Wish I'd bought them at Malvern now :-)

27 May, 2012

Spritz, do you know R. Felicia?:-)

27 May, 2012

Oh we are going on the sunday bornagain ...dont buy them all ! lol

27 May, 2012

No, Ba. Are you hoping to get one?

27 May, 2012

By the way - when we were at the Nursery, I bought a small sized Delphinium plant for a friend (by request!) and Mr. Blackmore himself showed us what they do to the plants - they cut them right back and in a few weeks, new foliage grows. He said it improves the plants' flower-power! He should know, but it looked a bit drastic.
