having lived in london for 30 years, and have just a concrete garden with a few pots, I now have moved with my wife to hampshire with a garden that is 60 feet long, this is rather daunting not having any growing expertise.

It was all laid to lawn or I should say moss, my dog helps to scarify the lawn and I have attempted to make beds in each corner, knowing what and when to grow has been hit and miss, but I think I am slowly getting there.

The trouble is if I see a plant that is reduced or cheap I will buy it and just plant it anywhere no actual planning, just random planting.

I have gone to the trouble of making a pebble pool in the middle wih alpines and an old gazeebo frame round it, I have honeysuckle in pots climbing up the frame.

I agree it sounds great. You are starting off the way most of us so called gardeners do, which is to develop our gardens as we learn, you will not always get it right non of us do but that is the fun of it so enjoy.

... and a welcome from me too. A lot of gardening, I think, is trial and error and you learn along the way. This site is great for getting advice on planting and ideas and also for finding out what is a weed and what is not a weed!

A big welcome from me too - I'm sure if you look through the photos and personal profile photos you'll find lots of inspiration - I certainly have.
Gardening can be very expensive and we all like a bargain on here and all addicted to plant buying from which there is no cure sorry.

I also buy anything and put it anywhere, just like you lol. I think a designed garden can look stiff. Let it flow :o)

Welcome to GoY .. I hope you enjoy it.

I am now on the third garden of my life and still haven't got it 'right' (whatever that is!) and don't care, really, because for me the pleasure comes from trying things out, learning what works here and getting pleasant surprises now and again.
This site is a great help. Enjoy!

Just remember, in YOUR garden you plant what YOU want. If you decide later you don't like it, pull it out and try something else.

Welcome from me too. Like you I only had a patio and balcony before coming here and didn't have a clue what to plant where - so I just put things wherever I fancied. Some worked, some didn't - so I moved them. Look forward to seeing pics of your garden Spetz.

Hi Spetz
Welcome to Goy. I'm sure after only having a few pots, your new garden seems really enormous. It will be fun to see how you get on in the coming few months and I wish you luck and hope you have lots of fun. I'm sure lots of people on Goy will be more than willing to help you out if you have any questions or need some advice. They have certainly helped me.
