New year plants that make you want to see more ...

I am back in Spain – Andalucia – after a long time travelling – so today went out to see what is blooming right now in my garden here. We have hot days but icy nights. I won’t bore you with a list, but I have 22, plants in flower from the ubiquitous bouganvillea ( it flowers forever) as do the pelagoniums. But I also have Abelia grandiflora, Teucrium fruticans, Podranea, Polygala mystifolia (a Spanish favourite), and my all time favourite Colletia. Roses too, and Salvia leucantha – another one I’d take to the desert island with me. When nights are chilly and the new year is weighing you down with expectations – go outside and just admire a plant.

Do those flowers close up at night ?

bet you are glad to be back home to see such lovely plants.

Is the bottom one the polygala? It is stunning. thanks for sharing them with us.

I found the leaves of my bee orchid showing just above the soil today, such a thrill to see new leaves. Getting out is a real tonic as you say sorbus.

Beautiful - hard to imagine those in winter!

No, Diane, mostly don't close up at night. Gazanias do, but must confess I am more likely to close up at night, inside. The bottom picture is the Polygala, yes. (I must re-learn how to do captions.) The top one is of the almond tree blossom. The hills around me are alive with the blossom, so delicate and abundant. Makes driving anywhere a delight.

I wonder if you realise just how wonderful your January is Sorbus...it's the end of March and here in the UK we are still under snow in most places.....sigh.....oh, to be in Andalucia!
