diggin done

2 days with very little rain water gone from veg patch, not dry but diggable, remember a while back i asked about the backsaver spade the one where you push the blade into soil and pull back on the handle and it inverts the soil without back bending and lifting ,i dithered and dithered about buying it because it was expensive well i was feeling a bit down as i said and needed retail therapy.well it arrived and i could not use it because of water level. now it is fairly dry/ish i had a go with it and believe you me money well spent after half an hour i could turn the soil over like a good un perfect inversion dug area in half the time as before no aching muscles absolute joy to use a bit pricey at £110 but well made strong stainless steel blade i recomended for anyone with lots of digging just needs practice can,t praise it enough should have sent a photo really pleasing to the eye <.the dug ground not the spade > although sid is quite smart ? had to have a name didn,t it

Using the Wright method of digging for years I never have backache.
Work with spits about 2" wide. Press the spade into the ground this distance from the previous row. Remember to always keep the left hand palm down on the shaft of the spade/fork. Holding the right hand lightly on the spade handle, pull it back.
Then twist the wrists which turns the spit over without any effort at all.
When I had my allotment men used to stand and watch
me doing this, amazed at how quickly I traversed the row.
Thats saved everyone a lot of money !

diane your a wise lady ,my back muscles are not so good now so this spade helps me to keep the veg growing

Twisting the wrists would be my problem but I do agree taking smaller sections does make it a lot easier. It would be good to see Snoop in action with his new spade though.
