Three lovely 'ladies'

after many years of wanting and promising myself I have eventually taken the plunge and found myself the perfect companion..

and she came with two of her friends..

Ive wanted chickens for ages, since i got here really and this weekend bought three speckled sussex birds..

Cleaned out an old building for them and made them feel at home i hope..

got them a piece of land to play in too..

and as a reward for cleaning out their home this morning I was left a little gift, one of many Im hoping..

..Ive obviously got the bug because I added another three to the flock at the weekend..

they are settling in nicely..

How exciting! I'd love to keep chickens, but have no room for them. Enjoy those eggs!

May you have many years of chicken friendship and eggs. BTW it's quite fun to feed them spaghetti, they love it and it gets flung all over the place!

I am thinking about buying an eglu. They are fox proof! And as I feed the foxes I had better be careful. Still not sure yet. The big boss will be furious if he finds I have brought rats again.

My favourite chook was called 'Mint choc chook'

Tasty fresh eggs, you can't beat them and they have a great home so hopefully will provide you with so many more.
I always think they are comical as well, so after a while when they are used to you they'll no doubt be following you all around.......

What lovely girls...don't forget to lock them up at night....away from the foxes. That looks like a good egg.

Ah , you will love them Skips , we had a couple of Black Rocks free ranging round the garden most of the time , they are so funny to watch ! I well remember us waiting for that first egg ,it happened one christmas , we wanted to be the first to see and pick one up but our son and family were here for the holiday , our son came back with the first one with a huge grin on his face , we fried it and everyone had to have a dip :o)) the hens were called Milly and Molly ....

update..disaster today, found one of the speckled sussex dead on the floor this morning. Did wonder yesterday if there was something wrong, she sat on her nest for ages and was very reluctant to walk to the run. she seemed fine though when I locked them up for the evening. No signs of why she didnt make it..such a shame. I hope its a one off
