Best value Tulips. Siris to the rescue.

When to the rubbish tip to dispose of some brick rubble last summer. The skip is only supposed to receive stones and brick because it is recycled for hard core. In it was a bucket load of soil imprgnated with Tulips, so I rescued the plants, took them home and dried them off, except 3 which were suspect. I planted the bulbs last Autumn in a trough and put them on the drive by the back door.
Here is the result:-

Photo title:- Me and my Shadow.

Best value Tulips.

A trough of seedling Allium Christophii on the left, seed collected from my own plants. All these bulbs cost nothing. When the tulips have finished flowering I will move these tubs to the back and replace with tubs containing Iris seedlings, because here is the only place that has space for troughs and some sunshine. The troughs are the terracotta ones that were cracking, but I have since painted them, all 12, with a waterproofing material, that was spare, inside and out.

Well, makes visiting the tip well worth while, horrid places, arent they. Your rescued Tulips are sooooo lovely, well done, love your planter too.

Our local council tip is so busy, in a completely inappropriate place. To get in, cars queue back onto the dual carriage way around a bend. Only the council would permit this! Try to go on rainy days, less busy, otherwise sometime have taken the rubbish home again.

Ooo Siris, something for nothing - great stuff! Can't think why folk throw good stuff away like that.

They certainly were a bargain Siris !!
Our recycling centre has just moved much nearer to us on an industrial estate so much easier for us to get to, still same often unhelpful staff though.

Good job it was only a shallow skip, full to the brim, otherwise I could not have leaned in.

Oh, aren't we scavengers!

I also enjoyed the anticipation of seeing what colour they would be, was not disappointed.

Fantastic value then, Homebird! The tulips look very nice indeed & the anticipation of waiting to see what would come up in the spring is very enjoyable, too!

As long as the blackbird is only bathing, the ones in my garden are collecting damp soil from pots in the pond and my seedling pots under the carport. I have had to net them.

Still going strong Hb. They are tending to change tone to white with a pink edge as they age, most attractive.
