Feral cats in the barn again!

Hallo everyone!

Hope all is going well with you.

This is to be a cheerful blog. Our daughter has found good homes or the latest three little kitten born in an empty open cowshed during the really cold spell. When Harriet spotted the feral female cat wandering around outside she immediately thought there must be kittens around. After hunting around amidst the bundles of old hay she came across them and they looked a sorry sight. They were so dirty and bedraggled and the mother was trying to keep them fed and warm. Usually she has had the kittens in one of the small barns amidst old timbers, farming equipment, tarpaulins and general junk. The daily task of helping them with food and drink began. As soon as the family felt it appropriate they set a squirrel trap for the mother, caught her and took her to be spayed as per the vet’s instructions. The kittens were then rescued and put into the old cloakroom (now Ben’s studio) and they lived in a cardboard box for a while but were soon able to escape and slide around on the black and white tiled floor. As this batch of three kittens had very long fur it was hard to see their legs and feet at first and they appeared to glide across the floor like Doogle in The Magic Roundabout.

kitten from a previous litter last May.
Latest kittens very scruffy but cute!

Pretty little things

They gradually got used to being handled and began playing mischievously.

I would have loved one but it isn’t a good idea now so I content myself with growing Amaryllis etc.,

This splendid one ended up with nine ( 9 ) flowers on two stems.

The garden is at last free from snow and ice today.
We travelled down for my delayed treatment on Tuesday and returned today. It had been 7 weeks but I was pronounced satisfactory! Some horrid road conditions due to the rain and fog but we ran into more snow around Rotherham where we diverted to visit some of the family, staying overnight.
I shall sleep more soundly in my own little bed tonight (this morning as it is almost 2 am.) It is beginning to feel quite chilly so a hot water bottle would be nice!
Night night

I rescued my first cat "cadbury" from an old barn he was born in and around the horses hooves - after 2 brothers had died my friend brought him to me! He was covered in horse muck and hedgehog fleas - 2 baths later he turned into a lovely chocolate colour hence his name - I had him for 18 years and I dont think he ever thought he was a cat as he used to follow me everywhere and used to go into the pub for his cheese and onion crisps!!
