Davidia Involucrata (Handkerchief Tree)
An unusual, very hardy, deciduous tree boasting gorgeous heart-shaped, dark green leaves with a soft white down on the undersides. In late spring it produces a profusion of large, white bracts that surround the small flowers, and it is from these bracts that it gets its common name, as they supposedly look like handkerchiefs drying along the branches. It is fast-growing, and although it can often take 10 years to flower, it is certainly well worth the wait! Flowers in May. Height 15m. Supplied in a 4 litre pot. 2-in-1 spring and winter interest.Making a white garden is challenging, and the key is to provide enough contrast in various cream and off-white shades, as well as with varying leaf shapes and colours.
