First frosty morning

I went out to top up the seed and nuts for the birds, as the Bluetits, Robins and Sparrows seem to think my garden is a pretty good cafe at the moment, only to find there had been a frost overnight.

It really does give a ‘sugar frosting’ feel to the plants and makes you look closer at the patterns left behind.

Here are some photos I took at 9am today …

Heucheras

Peach Patio Rose … the longest flowering Rose in my garden

Sedum

Purple Pansy

Alchemilla mollis

Hydrangea

Strawberry

Spiraea

Nepeta (Catmint)

Forget-me-not

The water in the bird bath was frozen enough to take the weight of the bag of Peanuts … saved me having to hold the bag!

Halfway through the night OH was cold and threw a warmer duvet over the bed … it didn’t take Megan long to find it was the perfect place for her to sleep!

The frost has all faded now … the sky is blue and the sun is shining … but it’s far too cold to venture out so I shall be decorating the tree and house this afternoon while OH is standing in the cold watching footie … that’s dedication on his part!

Enjoy the weekend …

Finally back from sorting through the Christmas decs and making the place look festive! ... So much for going 'minimalist' this year ... I just can't do it! ... Pleased you liked the frosty pics, Sheilabub, even though the Strawberries were pathetic this year, I didn't have the heart to get rid of the plant ... :o) . . . . .

Cinders & Terra ... the Heucheras really stood out with the frost on them ... just hope they survive the Winter weather! ... Fingers crossed ... :o) . . . . .

Thanks for your comments, Sticki & Costas ... :o) . . . . .

San & Joanella, Megan stayed on there until her body clock told her it was time to eat! ... Such a life our cats have ... :o) . . . . .

Lol, Paul, very funny! ... :o)))

Karen, they really are more defined with a frost on them, especially the Heucheras ... :o)

Sue, I think we reached 7 degrees by midday then it started cooling down again! ... Not finished the decs, but the tree is done and the lights all work, that's always a bonus ... :o)))

10 Dec, 2011

Sooo Pretty Shirley, worth getting up early to see, th frost gives a magical touch to all the plants;0))

10 Dec, 2011

Frosty here in Newcastle this morning, the Blackbird was waiting by the bird bath for the ice to be broken. Liked your frosty pictures and Megan, she look's so comfy :-)

10 Dec, 2011

Great shots, Shirley, still no change here, very mild, but lots of light rain...excellent capture of Megan...

11 Dec, 2011

Lovely blog Shirley and great photos. Until goy I wouldn't have dreamt about taking photos in the winter. We still haven't had any frost in our garden yet.

11 Dec, 2011

Pp, I have to agree with you on the frost making it look magical :o) ..... Hi Mavis, it makes it hard work for the birds when the water is solid ... back to rain this morning here ... :o( ..... Sue, Megan is such a photogenic cat ... lol! :o) ..... Rose, I know what you mean about not taking photos in the depths of Winter ... but sometimes there are good opportunities! ... :o) .....

11 Dec, 2011

:)))) duly preserved lol....

11 Dec, 2011

Lovely photos of the frosted plants and also a lvely photo of Megan.

11 Dec, 2011

Surely Hywel would have liked those first three pictures even if he hates frost and snow - worth framing!

11 Dec, 2011

Lol, Steragram, I think they are still too cold for Hywel! . . .

11 Dec, 2011

Too cold for me too Shirley....Sunshine blaring down today it's gorgeous...:)))

12 Dec, 2011

Sunshine and blue sky here too, and no frost last night, so I'm off for a game of croquet in my woolly hat!!

12 Dec, 2011

Jealous of your sunshine? ... You bet! ... We are forecast 70mph winds and heavy rain across Hampshire and Sussex from midnight tonight ... :o(((

Lol, Sheila, the image that conjures up in my head ... :o)

12 Dec, 2011

That was a big frost Shirley, dont think that happened here I am glad to say, but I guess it will before long.

12 Dec, 2011

Well, Gm, we have howling wind and rain now at 8.30pm ... I put my Greenwaste bin out but fear it will be halfway down the street soon .. lol!

12 Dec, 2011

Not good here tonight either,Shirley..same as you..and tomorrow apparently....been cold today, but fine..managed to get the bird feeders stocked up..I really must get to pull that last Cosmos out..it's definitely dead ! Lol.

12 Dec, 2011

Hi Sandra ... I hate wet & windy weather ... definitely not going out anywhere until tomorrow! ... Just finished the last of the 'update notes' for Christmas cards ... writer's cramp now ... lol! ... Funny you should mention bird feeders ... I mixed some Sunflower hearts in with the regular seed and it must be a 5 star feeding station now as we saw Long Tailed Tits, Great Tits & Bluetits as well as the Robin, Wren & Sparrows today ... love to see them all in the garden ... Leave that Cosmos for seed! ... :o)

12 Dec, 2011

I keep saying I will get some Sunflower hearts.as I would love to see some different birds ...but it would mean going out more,to fill them up !..Supposed to be OH's domain..but he took a lot of stuff to a charity shop for me,so didn't mind :o)..Do you think the Cosmos seeds will survive the winter then,Shirley ? nothing lost,
I guess.!

12 Dec, 2011

Morning Sandra ... dreadful rain and wind through the night ... trampolines and a marquee blown onto roads and a few trees down in the area ... roads to Chichester flooded ... but looking out now you would never know as the sky is blue and the wind has dropped! ... I would bring the Cosmos seedhead in to dry off ... save and sow in the Spring ... :o)

13 Dec, 2011

Our weather wasn't as bad as yours, and not too bad this afternoon..like you,I can see blue sky and sun :o)..Think it's going to worst from tonight onwards ..and I am going out again on Thursday ! ..no point in even combing my hair, methinks :o) ..I misunderstood about the Cosmos,Shirley..I have already saved some seeds..so the soggy looking brown mess that remains..needs to come up..when I can get motivated Lol.

13 Dec, 2011

Lol, Sandra! ... Not worth venturing out for that ... just avert your eyes! .. :o)

13 Dec, 2011

I will ,Shirley..the neighbours will think I'm mad, walking down the path with my eyes shut ! Lol.

13 Dec, 2011

Especially in your dressing gown and slippers! ... :o)

13 Dec, 2011

Now that would be madness,Shirley..I only venture out in the back garden in those..:o)))

13 Dec, 2011

Of course ... got to keep up appearances at all times ... lol! ... :o)

13 Dec, 2011

ha ha..wouldn't Hyacinth just hate having me for a neighbour ??Lol...
