Interesting comment ...

Back in November last year I bought a plant named Diervilla ‘Cool Splash’ as I thought the variegated leaves looked very pretty, plus it had a 25% reduction, so it had to come home with me, obviously!

I re-sited it in April of this year and was most surprised to receive a comment from a Ppodaras saying

“I’m actually the guy that bred this plant. How is it doing for you now?”

I sent him a PM asking for more information and asked if I could post a short blog about the plant. I’ve heard nothing back from him since then, but have found some information regarding the breeding of the plant.

Dr.Peter Podaras, a plant breeder at Cornell University, New York discovered it in a cultivated area in Ithaca, NW (New York) in 2005. The new cultivar arose as a naturally occurring branch mutation found on a plant derived from seed of unnamed plants of Diervilla sessilifolia in an outdoor nursery trial bed.

Also known as Southern bush Honeysuckle and grown for use as a landscape plant.

Here it is back in November

and here it is today … looks healthy

I notice quite a few on-line nurseries are now offering these shrubs for sale. They grow to about 40" high, like full sun to partial shade and hold their leaves until late Autumn.

Just goes to show … you never know who’s watching on growsonyou!

It's a lovely looking plant Shirley, is it evergreen. Your right you never know who's watching, a bit George Orwell.

The information about it is very misleading, as one site call it a deciduous shrub, another says it keeps the foliage throught the season! Time will tell . . . . .

Back on line Shirley. A great architectural plant, wish it was evergreen. Strange that he didn`t reply to your PM.
