Bougainvillea in many shades

Spent a week in Malta and was delighted to see so many colours of Bougainvillea in December.

Some are allowed to climb up and over pergolas, others are clipped as a hedge.

Hope these photos have brought thoughts of warmer days ahead .

Hi Sandra, had a lovely restful break! All of these pics were taken in the hotel gardens, twenty years since our last visit so they've matured a lot! Avatar is sunrise seen from the balcony. Shame the vista isn't like that from my bedroom window ... lol!

Stunning colours in your photos, Shirley... glad you enjoyed your visit to Malta ...

"20 years since your last visit"... yes, the gardens have matured, but you remain as young as ever.... :o)

LOL, Tt, young in mind, maybe not the body! Cannot believe how cold it is here, again. A friend of mine tried Bougainvillea in her South facing porch, it thrived for one year, but then suddenly drooped and was gone forever. : o (((

Welcome back Shirley. I hope it was lovely. The peachy coloured one has always been my favourite. I used to have one in the conservatory but something happened...years ago now, can't remember. It was lovely though. I keep hoping that the GC will have them in again , but all they ever have is the purple and magenta ones. Brrrrr....isn't it cold!!

Thanks everyone for the 'welcome home' messages ... it was lovely to have meals in the hotel ... no cooking or clearing up! We've just been to the supermarket for supplies ... came out an hour later to find sleet falling from the sky! : o (((

Just gorgeous! If anyone is ever near Bradford-on-Avon, there's an amazing Bougainvillea nursery there: we walked into their "tent" a few years ago and were open-mouthed at the sight . . . about 200 plants in rainbow colours: stunning.

Ooh, I could just do with being in that "tent" right now!
