Tasting time will soon be here !

We bought a Grapevine ’ Brandt ’ variety back in May of this year, with hopes of it climbing up and over the new pergola.
It hasn’t disappointed us …
Here it is as from the Nursery

Then we divided it into 3 sections, 2 on one post, 1 on the other post

Now it’s really thriving, climbing across the top of the pergola now

there are many bunches of grapes allegedly small & sweet but full of pips and best left as a decoration on the vine.

Hope to taste them in a couple of weeks time ! That’s if the Blackbirds have left any for us !

They look lovely, do the vines die back and then re-grow in summer, I have never grown grapes would like to have a go at them, but think I would like a sweet one without the seeds if that is possible.

Seems to be thriving in your garden, Shirley. Hope you get a chance to taste the produce of your labours before the birds do get them all!

Many thanks for the comments. The patio is North facing, but we're in bungalow land so not too much shade, other than right against the wall !
Oliveoil, the leaves should be an Autumn feature as they change colour through green to red and yellow. Goypedia has some good info. on vines.

Who is going to do the treading then Shirley, and are we invited over for the tasting.
This is lovely and as you say should give great colour as Autumn progresses.

Ha ha, Stroller, no treading will be done by me ! I've nominated OH as the taster, just in case they're sour ! I am delighted with them, Bloomer.
Sandra, I didn't expect to see any grapes in the first year, so it's a lovely surprise.

This has been a marvellous success for you. Great idea to divide up the one vine, which seems to have benefited it. Grapes look lovely, and will be looking out for a taste report. :-))

How did you achieve this Shirley...I meant to ask before. Was there more than one root in the pot?
4 Oct, 2010
The vine was a good size when we bought it, Karen, so when it came to removing it from the pot, the root system was huge. It looked strong enough to divide into 2, then we went for 3 as one looked a little bit weaker. So, one post has a weak and a strong vine, the other post has a strong one. Does any of that make any sense at all ? LOL ! And now you've gone and changed your avatar again !

Yes, I was getting bored with the dahlia Shirley! That sounds like a real bargain that vine! Well done you, I still can't get over how much it's grown and how productive it's been!
