Fragrant week-end

These flowers are wafting their scent around the garden in the warmth. The Jasmine was particularly welcome as we sat outside enjoying the first breeze at 7.00pm after a sweltering day.
Philadelphus Aurea (orange blossom)

Jasmine ‘clotted cream’

View of Jasmine on the pergola where we sit as often as possible!

Rose ‘Laura Ford’ – my favourite climber

Happy week-end everyone :)

Thank you for 'liking' Sandra and Terra - even though this is such a short blog!

Love your sitting area with the Jasmine on the trellis, looks very inviting, lovely rose too.

How lovely,to sit out first thing, with those beautiful flowers ,I can just imagine the beautiful fragrance.

What super place to sit amongst the wonderful perfumes. I was driven in doors today...it just got too hot to bear. The thermometer outside was registering 86f!

I absolutely love that Jasmine. Its a gorgeous colour. We are indoors now, but have had some good sunshine outdoors today. It's not what us northerners are used to...sun screen definitely required!

We're never happy are we lol?!

18 Jun, 2017

If only we could get the scent via the screen! It has been far too hot for me today ... sat in the shade reading ... watched many different types of Bees coming and going. A lovely lazy day ... :o)

Scentogramm, that's what we need. Lovely selection of fragrant flowers.

Just wish I could smell them too - they look wonderful.

Shirley you were fortunate. This is the first year we have been very short of any kind of insect - no need to put the screen thing over the open door - usually we get loads of flies and several bumble bees trapped but not this year so far..

Stera, I was sat reading for about an hour and saw one Butterfly, possibly a Speckled Wood, some Hoverflies as well as the Bees. I do hope our wildlife is not going to be depleted further ... :o(

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments. We are sitting outside now at 9.15 in the evening, recovering from today's searing heat when we had to be on the croquet lawn. How I would have loved to be reading in the shade! Never mind, I'll have my chance tomorrow after a swim first thing. We're just not built for being out in 28 degrees, are we?!

18 Jun, 2017

No definitely not Sheila...we moan about it being cold and then when its hot we are immediately exhausted!

18 Jun, 2017

I was so wiped out this evening, Karen, that OH had to cook supper - very kind as he was tired too.

18 Jun, 2017

Well, that's love for you Sheila! :) x Actually, come to think of it, OH here excelled himself by making me a sandwich and a cuppa this evening too! Must be the sunshine..long may it continue.

All beauties Sheila lovely sitting area love the rose.

Your seating area with the Jasmine is lovely. It must be so nice to sit there. I got up at 6am to try and get some things done, but it was still too hot for me. I only managed sitting in the shade reading a book and watering the garden at 8pm.

Thanks JayKaty - yes, we love it too; thanks Callie, Julia, Karen, Shirley, Siris, Sue, 3d and Lisam - we were watering at 9pm yesterday evening. The garden-tidying will just have to wait!

It reached 37° here today..too hot even for the shade. We sat out in that garden late last night, not wanting to go back in doors as the house was still too hot to slept. Today we took the car out, windows all down and went for a country drive...called at a GC and I bought a new standard rose. ☺☺

Lovely blog and a lovely sitting area. Is the "Laura Ford" a repeat flowering rose? Hubby bought me it this valentine. Love it as not only a lovely present but also as Laura is my daughter's name.

Not sure how to answer you, Jen! We inherited this rose 38 years ago, and when Mr Harkness visited (owner of Harkness Roses in the neighbourhood) he blushed to say it was one he didn't know. I deadhead it regularly and it does flower for about two months: does that mean it's a repeat flowering rose? Maybe it is :) A brilliant present for you anyway!

Thanks Shellabub, I've had a few flowers on mine this year but it's only a baby as it was planted this year so didn't know if it had a short flowering time or not. Hubby said when he bought it he saw it in red as well. Got me the yellow as a few years back, his mother bought me a yellow climbing rose for my birthday, just before we lost her and it was really the only plant I minded leaving behind when we moved.

Haven't read the other comments yet, Sheila ...so pardon if I repeat..it's just my first thoughts on your blog.
Scent is sometimes the last thing mentioned in flower/shrub/tree catalogues, isn't it? I think it is paramount. If I didn't have my sight how would I appreciate all the dimensions of the garden... but if I can smell, and identify by the smell, it's such a kick!
A few years back in my town garden I bought and planted an Amur Maple because I wanted the leaf texture and it was the correct size range for my walled-in backyard garden. Imagine the fun I had with visitors in spring time? They would be looking around for the lilacs...and couldn't find the bush...exclaiming to me that the neighbour's lilacs were scenting my garden! They didn't know that the neighbours didn't have a lilac and that my Amur Maple was in bloom because it's blossom is a smokey looking lime green furze. It's heady aroma is like lilac...so close that it's hard to distinguish between the two... but space filling and delicious. I bought a wisteria for the scent too... but got the Chinese one, which is not as nice, (so I'm told) as the Japanese one. oh well...
I sure wish I could grow Jasmine. You have a lovely spot in which to enjoy it.. enjoyed your blog.

Thanks Lori . . you're right about the importance of scented plants. I've not heard of Amur Maple, so will look it up.

We have a white Wisteria, but you have to get up close to appreciate its perfume :)

Always a pleasure to sit in a scented garden, especially in the evening, after the heat has gone, .... loving that Jasmine Sheila.

Thank you Angela :))

Your welcome....

So pleased to see your blog, what Jasmine is that, it is lovely? I have one but the flowers are insignificant & pink plus it swamps everything & you have to get close for the scent.
I was so pleased to see Laura Ford too,I used to have it years ago in a previous home & had since forgotten all about it.
It was named for Laura Ford sister of Anna Ford, the presenter. It is a repeat flowering miniature small rose that flowers from June - Sept & grows to about a max of 10ft, some places list it as a patio rose.
Not only is she listed as Excellent she has also got an AGM.

Thank you Green fingers . . . that's interesting about the Laura Ford rose. Ours is about 7ft.

The Jasmine is 'clotted cream' - also quite rampant.

26 Jul, 2017

I must look out for those two.
