For Alexandramou ~ NE Corfu as you may know it!

Hi!

I’ve just been browsing through some holiday snaps to cheer up a drizzly, grey afternoon in the UK. This may look familiar? We were staying near Kaminaki on the NE coast, and climbed down the rocks to have a look inside “Prospero’s Cell Chapel” (from the book by Laurence Durrell). Those with acute vision should be able to spot it (it’s very small :))

Just found another pic of Prospero’s cell – just to prove we did get down there, lol.

Wonderful rock formations

Time for a swim in this gorgeous pool

Then a lovely walk along the coastal footpath to a favourite taverna for lunch.

It’s such a beautiful, unspoilt area, with very friendly locals, that I hope to return one day :)
Hope my GoY friends enjoyed this virtual (brief) holiday!!

Oh, so beautiful! It's at least 33 years since we were in Corfu, and I still remember it well. These pictures bring it all back so clearly. Thank you Sheila.

Thanks for a lovely "mini- break " , Sheila .
I was a bit tired after the virtual climb , but the swim was quite restorative , and the lunch exellent !
Belated Happy Birthday , Alex .

I've just had a dip in that wonderful pool and eaten a delicious meal at the taverna - might just do the same tomorrow thanks to you!! [No intention of attempting the climb though!]

Wish I was there now!

Thanks Pimm's . . . I can see the appeal of the location of the Cell, but the inhabitant might not get many visitors :)

Thank you Driad and Chris. Me too Sheilar!

Great blog Sheilar.......I feel like I want to go on vacation now. Can't enjoy the island when you work everyday. Maybe I will go sightseeing around the island and take pictures after the season is over.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. ;o)))

p.s. I really love the rock formation!!!

Thank you Mel . . . I'm SURE we will (I've a couple of days booked in Southwold at the end of the month, and I'm usually lucky with the weather)! Oh dear, do the words "tempting" and "fate" come to mind?!

Lovely photos Sheilab - brings back lovely memories, though we didn't actually go to that spot.
We love Greece - Corfu in particular, We went there for holidays several times. The last time was in 2009 for our Golden Wed Anniversary. We hadn't been since 1989 befotre that so it had changed a lot.
The first time we ever went, was to Kavos, beautiful little unknown village with nothing much there!! (IF YOU KLNOW WHAT KAVOS IS LIKE NOW you wouldn't believe it!! Totally ruined as far as we're concerned these days, with loud bars & discos etc 'Larger Lout City' it could be called now!! Certainly wouldn't want to holiday there any more!!) We got to know a family there though & kept in touch foeach time we went back to Corfu.
When we went back in 2009, we found them in the same place & they still remembered us! We used to talk about arranging a Donkey Derby there years ago & the first thing Captain Costas said when he saw us was "ah Donkey Derby - where have you been all these years"?!!)
We still love Corfu, just maybe not Kavos it's such a shame it is spoilt.
We stayed in San Stefanos this last time, in a hotel there (Hotel Thomas Bay or something like that, just forget exactly now, without looking it up)
We enjoyed it very much and travelled all over the place to some of our old haunts again.
Lovely lovely Corfu.
Thank you for bringing back happy memories, I can hear the Greek Music in my ears!! Used to love a bit of Greek dancing, but I couldn't do it now!!!

Allbest Shirl

Thank you Shirly - yes, places do change over the years, and it can be a risk to go back unless you have local knowledge :)

4 Aug, 2012

I loved going back & would go again, but it is a shame some places get ruined out of all recogniton - which Kavos did!!
Too many people trying to jump on the bandwagon.

Shirl.....Thomas Bay is just down the road from my shop!!! Yes, I live in Agios Stefanos . I own the jewellery shop next to Aspa super market if you remember.

4 Aug, 2012

I can't remember exactly Alexandrama, but we probably came in to look around. Don't think I bought any jewellry that year though! (sorry!!)I know we went into the supermarket to buy goodies!
I love Greek nougat - it is softer than we get here! I love ouzo too!;))
Also - proper Greek yoghurt. The stuff we get here, even if it says Greek, doesn't seem the same!

Ag Stefanos is one of my fave's since we stayed there.

Hope you are having a good season in your shop.
allbest
Shirl.
