Evening sunshine to put a "spring" in my step!

After a very wet and cold day, it was so lovely to see the sun, that I had to have a wander round the garden. Far too many cowslips everywhere, but I haven’t the heart to dig them up.

Bluebells

A mix including Euphorbia, Arabis, Heucheras and Stipa tenuissima -

And my greenhouse . . . who needs a holiday cottage?! This is where I “go away” to relax and feel happy (and sometimes bring a cuppa :)). My special Libertia ‘Taupo Sunset’ in pride of place -

I was very lucky with seed germination this year, but the magenta Petunia and lilac Nemesia are from plugs!

Hope you’re having a few sunny interludes too. :))

Oooh Sheila, thanks for that. I wish I had room for a chair in my GH...I would be out there now! Thank goodness for blogs on a day like this...I am thoroughly fed up with it all...as we all are! The Cercis seedlings are coming along slowly but surely and will soon need to be pricked out and potted up! This time next year I shall probably be offering some to GoYers! :))

Looks a lovely peaceful garden, Sheila.
Yes... sunny intervals here, between the showers.
Understandable you don't want to remove the pretty cowslips.

Thank you Yorks . . . I could well have done, but whichever, glad your cowslips are doing well. :)

At least with a greenhouse, Karen, we have somewhere to "garden" when it's pouring down! Brilliant that you've got your tree seeds growing - mine haven't germinated yet, so I could be putting my name on your list, lol. :))

Thanks Terra - strange day, isn't it - seems to alternate between sunshine and rain every half hour!

Just great to see all those cowslips I love them especially when you manage to find them in the wild too. Don't thin them out they are so pretty. I remember a few years back now getting very excited when we went for a drive in the country lanes and found a roadside with masses of cowslips and I hadn't seen any for years and years. Beautiful flowers. Thanks for posting a lovely blog on a dreary wet day it cheered me up.

It did stop for approx 45mins this afternoon then came back with a vengeance lol, a sense of humour is a must when one sees all the water running down the garden......

25 Apr, 2012

We had about ten minutes sun.....then (and still) down came the rain......but my Cercis have germinated too.....If they all survive I,ll have to rehome some......how big do they grow?....

Its a lovely garden, my primroses selfseed and I couldn,t move them either

You have a lovely garden Sheila

25 Apr, 2012

Julia - very kind, yes, natural/informal is my choice :)

Olive - that's a lovely comment too - thank you :)

Lincs - we certainly need our GSOHs!

Pam - thanks, and great news about the Cercis - well done you! Well, the tree in our front is 6ft - 7ft, and has been for some years. You can always bonsai them, lol.

Thank you Annella :)

25 Apr, 2012

Talking of Bonsai, I nearly bought a tiny Acer in Morrisons tonight.......think I will go back for it tomorrow :o))

25 Apr, 2012

Just the sort of thing you need, Annella - great. :))

Well that stroll round your garden as cheered me up no end Sheila, its such a relaxing garden, and the cowslips suit it perfectly. Its poured down here for most of the day and especially this morning. The high winds tore my very large trachelospermum jasminoides away from the trellis on the kitchen wall needless to say I got a good soaking tying it back, I was desperate for it not to get damaged.

25 Apr, 2012

Well done Stroller...that's a true gardener! :))

25 Apr, 2012

two cowslips self seeded on the lawn, mowed around them ( when it was dry tother day ) I havent the heart to cut them down either SB!!

25 Apr, 2012

Isn't it funny how some wildflowers have that effect on us? I love them, but they get everywhere! I still have one plant, but it is stuck in a corner where it is quite dry and it doesn't seem too keen to move! :))

25 Apr, 2012

Thank you for your lovely comment Stroller, and well done for braving the storm for your climber!

Yes - we do that too Bampy - silly really when there are 70 others, but we're just softies aren't we :))

Plenty more seeds if you'd like some Karen . . . you only have to say. :)) x

25 Apr, 2012

lol...yes, you won't be short of seed Sheila. I was in the GC the other day and they were selling them at £4 each which made me laugh (cynically!). Actually, I might introduce a few in to the pond/wildflower garden. If you could send me some seed, I would appreciate that Sheila. Thanks :)

oh sheila your garden is so pretty, what a delight. that chair is beckoning in the greenhouse!!

what a perfectly lovely place to be and to look at.

25 Apr, 2012

Your garden looks more like a small park,Sheila..so lucky to have somewhere big enough to stroll round..and love your centre bed ....never stopped raining here,so your 'holiday cottage' would have made an excellent place to visit today..looks so cosy, and well stocked too.:o)

25 Apr, 2012

All looking lovely Sheilabub. Weather here rather miserable today. Very strong winds. Thank you for sharing your sunny interlude :)

25 Apr, 2012

Bloomer is right your garden is like a small park, just the right size really, and looking very pretty and springlike, my OH would love to have a greenhouse, but no chance here, rained most of the day, fed up with it now!! and the gales are horrid...

25 Apr, 2012

Such a fresh looking garden, looks like it is enjoying the weather even if we arn't!

25 Apr, 2012

I did the same as you when the sun finally broke through! Just wandered and smiled at everything! Your garden looks lovely! Ditto with the magenta petunias! Didn't know what colour they were when purchased but now have two small troughs of bright magenta! I have given up on sowing them from seed as they all came out white despite their original colour, so I 'trust to luck' with small plants from the GC or market. I love a surprise! :o)
PS: You'll still need that fleece or jumper! Add wellies to the suitcase too!

26 Apr, 2012

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments . . . Sticki, Bloomer, Scottish, Dotty, Willi and Nariz :))

I've made a note about seeds in my GoY notebook, Karen, probably late May/early June when they set.

Nariz - I REFUSE to bring wellies to "sunny Spain", lol! OH says If it's pouring with rain, we'll find somewhere for lunch! PM coming up . . .

26 Apr, 2012

OK ..... but they could be 'famous last words!!!' Make it a waterproof jacket with hood instead! Or, at the very least, an umbrella! ;o)

27 Apr, 2012

Mmmm, a bit of everything then - sounds like normal holiday accessories . . . umbrella, waterproof, suncream and sunglasses!!

27 Apr, 2012

Don't forget the flip-flops!

27 Apr, 2012

:)))

27 Apr, 2012

I had no idea your garden was this size, Sheila ... it's beautiful in the evening sun ... we are back to dull weather again after two whole days without rain ... managed to mow and edge the grass ... :o)

28 Apr, 2012

Thank you Shirley :) Fed up with this miserable weather now though . . . I "had" to join a croquet lesson this morning, and was cold and wet for 2 hours - no fun at all!

28 Apr, 2012

I declined going for a walk today, Sheila as it's just too cold out there ... well done for even going out for two hours ... :o)
