Bonsai photos - sorry, not very good!

It’s probably just a little early to take good pics of these little trees. This is a Beech, which will look better when the leaves are fully out, but I do like the shape. :)

The Beech was a seedling dug up from the garden, as were these two . . . not sure what they are, but possibly Apple trees? If I was lucky enough to get a little blossom, that would help!

Sorry about the Azalea behind, which only confuses matters.
This is a Hawthorn, needing a trim!

Next time, I will get some help and perhaps use a better background. They are quite heavy, and if I started moving them around I’d need a lie down (what a waste of time!). Hope I’ve given you a taste, anyway. :))

They're gorgeous Sheila, brightened this wet work day up for me no end. I particularly love the possible apple trees, how old would you say these specimens are? Thanks for the effort it is appreciated!

Did you 'make' these yourself Sheila? They fascinate me and I would love to have a go

They look very good Sheila, giving me inspiration.

Thanks so much Sev - you're so appreciative! At a rough guess, the "apples" are probably 6 - 7 years old.

Yes, Annella . . . they are grown from seedlings dug up from my garden. Easy and fun - start them off in multi-purpose for a year or two; then when they've reached about 4", trim the roots, give them gritty compost, and plant them into a shallow pot. You can trim the branches to a "pleasing" shape any time!

Thanks Cinders - we crossed!

Wow Annella . . . I'm not an expert, just having fun!

Thanks Yorks!

Oh yes Sheila..Fantastic, I hope you do get some blossom. did you see Tanjipete's Crab Apple ? I like the Hawthorn...May is almost here, another photo if it flowers please. :))

That's the nice thing about this site Sheila, things seem easier when they are explained by other 'real' gardeners :o))

Just been to look at Tanjipete's Crab Apple, it's beautiful. I hope you get some blossom Sheila

20 Apr, 2012

Thanks Pimm's . . . yes, Tanjipete's Crab Apple was awesome. I won't need prompting if the Hawthorn flowers, lol, you'll hear me yelling in delight!! It never has, but I keep hoping.

It would be great, Annella, that's why I was bowled over by Tanji's blossom. NONE of mine have ever flowered, so he's the expert!!

These are wonderful Sheila, clever old you! When you see the ones at the GC they are so very expensive, but these are so much more delightful knowing how much work you have put into them.

Aaww Gill - typically generous comment - thank you!!

:~))

The ones in GC's are usually a cheat job with the trunk chopped rather than the longer real Bonsai process.

love these :) well done fingers crossed for the blossom

20 Apr, 2012

Thanks Sf . . yes, fingers crossed :)

Well you've succeeded in creating little Trees, well done...

I have acquired a two year old Silver Birch sapling from a friend at the weekend Sheila, it is about 1ft tall. Do you think it would still work or is that too big?

23 Apr, 2012

Well, I think it sounds perfect Annella, a little birch how fantastic.

23 Apr, 2012

I only popped round to borrow Cranberry sauce so was impressed to see the saplings, all babies from her tree

23 Apr, 2012

Annella . . . YES! That's terrific, it will save you having to wait two years for it to grow, lol. Not too big at all; I have a couple of Whitebeam saplings which are about the same height . . . waiting in the wings for me to prune them and re-pot them. Enjoy playing.
