A VERY VERY HARD QUIZ WITH NO ANSWERS!

Every Christmas we buy, for £1, a quiz from the local Rotary, which keeps us and our friends puzzled for days. This year’s theme is Flowers, and so far we have solved 95 out of 100. The remaining clues I will give to all you GoYers
a) because you are clever folk, and
b) because I feel you want something to do while unable to get out into the garden.

I will not be able to publish the answers until they are given to us in FEBRUARY, by which time hopefully you will have forgotten all about it and be sleeping well again.

1. I hear I’m on my way here, almost (9)
2. Sounds like grown-up bike boys (8)
3. Tracking star of The Dish (11)
4. Place cup here to avoid slip (5)
5. Before marriage, served the gods their nectar and ambrosia (4)

All common flower names. Good luck!

I've just printed this off Sheila ... OH is no gardener but it's keeping his mind off his coughing! Well done for finding the other 95 answers too. : o )

No2, could it be Cycleman?

3 Jan, 2011

very clever young daisy

3 Jan, 2011

Ydd - Cyclamen sound correct to me! Hope you had a good Christmas? : o ))

3 Jan, 2011

Thanks Stickitoffee and Shirley, Sorry it took so long to reply. Im trying to work out the other 4 flowers.. Not easy...

3 Jan, 2011

no4 Tulip...

3 Jan, 2011

oh you are very very clever ~ now you have put the answer on its easy!!!!!

3 Jan, 2011

No3 Honeysuckle....

3 Jan, 2011

yes i agree with number 3 ~ just looked it up but you beat me to it YDD

3 Jan, 2011

Hi Stickitoffee, I got the first 2 answers myself (smug smile) but i cheated with the third, googled it, so you win that one.. Seems like Sheila isn't the only one stuck on this Quiz lol, lots of folk asking the same quiz questions!..

3 Jan, 2011

i looked it up too ~ well googled the dish ~ film and tracking so im same as you!
can you put all the questions on next time sheila???? that would keep me busy over christmas!!! maybe it would scan??
i have to say, cos im impatient, that its very nice trying to get the answer and then seeing it in few minutes ~ thanks YDD

3 Jan, 2011

Wow! How quick was that?! I did think of Cyclamen, but wasn't sure. Very good Youngdaisy . . . but I don't understand the answers! Is Honeysuckle a character from a film called The Dish?? And why Tulip? Yes, although I was brilliant to get 95 (with a little help), - thank you Shirley - I'm afraid I'm too dense to "get" these.

3 Jan, 2011

Honeysuckle? Please explain this to my, almost-numb, head today ... lol!

3 Jan, 2011

Ya welcome Sticktoffee.
I know the answers now, but ill not spoil it, just incase others want to guess :)

3 Jan, 2011

to lip for safe drinking with no spilling
honeysuckle is the name of the creek where the tracking station was

3 Jan, 2011

you can PM me ~ please YDD cos i will never get them ~ but i wont look at the PM till ive tried a bit harder ~ promise!!!

3 Jan, 2011

Ok StickiT.. Your right about the Honeysuckle tracking station, from a film...
Ok ill pm.. :)

3 Jan, 2011

5 is hebe.

3 Jan, 2011

Ummm, why???!!

3 Jan, 2011

These are far too tenuous for my brain today ... I give up ... lol!

3 Jan, 2011

cos hebe is the goddess of youth and it appears that she had to serve the nectar and the ambrosia

3 Jan, 2011

Well ................ I'm so glad I knew the right people to solve these clues!! Just No.1 to go then folks . . :)

3 Jan, 2011

No1 Sheila... Amaryllis..

3 Jan, 2011

is that anything to do with on the way to amarillo?

3 Jan, 2011

I think so Sticki,t. Im not sure if its the right answer. its the only one i found..

3 Jan, 2011

I think Amaryllis is brilliant . . . must be that . . . "on my way" and "almost". When you say "found" Ydd, where did you look? Not that it matters - I'm very impressed. Cheers :))

3 Jan, 2011

Googled the question Sheila, Then added .Flower Quiz..

3 Jan, 2011

when i found hebe i put ambrosia, nectar, marriage into google and it came up to say hebe was the goddess, im having more trouble with the first one though ~ or i would have put the link on here. interestingly everytime i put any of them in someone else already had asked the same ~ in december!! so it wasnt YDD ~ it must be someone else doing your quiz!!!

3 Jan, 2011

I think the people who are doing the quiz bought it from the same Rotary club as Sheila,, Just google any of the questions with *flower quiz* after it.. see what happens..

3 Jan, 2011

i think so too!!!

3 Jan, 2011

Ooooohh, what a cunning plan. Thanks to you "computer literate" people. I'll know what to do next time. Looks like we'll have to share the prize (box of smarties perhaps?) with half the country!

3 Jan, 2011

or donate them to google??

3 Jan, 2011

There's many a slip twixt cup and lip:-)

3 Jan, 2011

is that a clue BA or another question?

3 Jan, 2011

lol Bornagain, Tulip :)

3 Jan, 2011

:-)

3 Jan, 2011

I haven't read all the comments, so someone may have answered this one already, but no 5 is Hebe.

4 Jan, 2011

P.S. I know you "think it's all over" but it's not quite! Just thought I'd mention that earlier in the quiz (and yes, I will send the entire 100 to you Sticki: just have to ask my OH to scan it), the clue "Turn A into E to get bike riders" must be Cyclamen, musn't it? Therefore, would they really give two similar clues with the same answer?? (Mind you, anything is possible . . . last year we struggled for days with one clue, and it turned out that they'd given us the wrong letter-length, doh.)

I will take the clues to my gardening group this morning, and see if they can shed any light, but I think you have almost certainly got it done and dusted. Thanks again! :))

4 Jan, 2011

Ok, you had it! :-) I couldn't do any of the others though - and I STILL don't get "Tulip".

4 Jan, 2011

Many a slip twixt cup and lip Beattie...I think you have to say 'to lip' rather than tulip. I don't like it either lol, but I'm a pedant;-)

4 Jan, 2011

please let us know sheila

4 Jan, 2011

Sheila, one of the posters on the google site thought the same, about the Cycleman, thats why she was asking the question...

4 Jan, 2011

Sorry, still no wiser. One of the "girls" this morning wafted my list off my lap, and proceeded to copy all YOUR answers!! Didn't get my breath back in time to ask the vital question. :((

Still, someone else did give me a Wisteria seed to try and grow a new bonsai with. :))

4 Jan, 2011

you're all deserving of a round of applause )( )( )( )( )(
