poorly back

Well i am well and truly unable to garden! got up this morning and had a shower breakfast etc., then i bent down to pick something up and OUCH! something has happened to my lower back, can hardly walk and it hurts like hell to get up or sit down, you should see me trying to get upstairs to the bathroom!! I am sat with comp browsing through everyones photos on GOY, given me a chance to catch up with some that i don’t usually have time to look at, so thanks everyone for giving me something nice to look at to take my mind off my pain!!
I actually put weed and feed on the grass yesterday and the day before that i did the shed, think i must have over done the bending bit!! Will i learn my lesson from this? I doubt it!! So folks am out of action for a few days got to try and get to the doctors mind you he’ll only give me painkillers and anti inflammitories (can’t spell that) and i can do that (and am doing) myself, will see how it goes, no better on Monday i will go to the surgery.

Have got some plants coming in next few days too will have to ask neighbour to pot them up for me, oh dear and then theres the housework and dinner for hubby to do…..help!! Fish and chips comes to mind!!

So folks be careful out there, don’t overdo things or you will end up like me!

Sorry to hear of your injury. I've done that a few times - once was when I went to water a geranium. lol.
The least you have to worry about is your husband's dinner. He can get his own. I do.
Now the plants - well that's different. They're totally depandent on you, so you'll have to get better soon. lol.

Try just moving very gently to start with. If you sit still it will get worse.
I hope you'll be better soon :o)

Thanks Hywel, i have done this before so i know not to sit still too long, friend has just brought me a bag of frozen peas to put on in 20 minute intervals, (she's a nurse) blooming chilly but hopefully will take the swelling down. Hubby is very well able to get his own tea he's stopping at the chippy on the way home!!! LOL

Sorry about your back. I too have injured myself in the past gardening. Yikes! I found relief alternating heat & ice. Heal quick!

Hi Skilla ~

That injury sounds very painful...
Better weather forecast as from the weekend, so I hope when it's less damp that will ease your aches !

A cure using frozen peas ?
Sounds like a real GoY answer to your problems. Lol.

Well, I do hope the weekend sees you feeling more comfortable. It's so easy to overdo it as we get a little older and don't accept our limitations, I knowI don't and often live to regret it. Take it easy!

Really sorry about your back, yes your right very gentle movements for a while, I found stairs the worst, i do rate inflamatories tee hee, same can spell it , to take down the inflamnation. i have found they work for me. x

Poor you. I've done the same in the past. I usually spray with 'Deep Heat' but hate the smell! Those little pillows full of lavender (popped into the freezer) work well too. Blow the housework - that can be done on a rainy day anytime! Fish & chips is a good idea too (but not to put on the affected area).

oh how you have my sympathies; last weekend my back was in the same state .... all I did was to get up from a sofa and turn quickly at the same time. It is so frustrating when there is so much to be done in the garden. Keep moving gently and get better soon.

Yes, Sewingkilla. Wise words of warning. It's easily done. I have had back problems (put a disc out twice in my early 20's) for nearly 30 yearsbut I find lots of execise(partiicularly walking and swimming) help. Also, as I do gardening for my living, I wear a sports support belt.Similar to those people wear in gym when doing weights type excercise. I even put it on when just doing a little bit in my own garden because it's so easy to strain something, isn't it. Well I hope you soon feel much better but in the meantime enjoy your enforced time on GOY( Good excuse) By the way, I think the best painkiller for back ache is Ibuprofen gel. Excellent!

Sorry to hear of your injury Sk, hope you feel much better soon. I like those herb filled cushions that you heat up in the microwave and then put under the painful bit.
What a lovely picture - I could live in that little shed.

Aw thanks everyone you are all great and i have jotted down the 'cures' everyone uses, can't use deep heat allergic to something in it, friend came round with a bag of frozen peas i only had frozen sprouts and thought they might be a bit uncomfortable LOL! Its eased a bit today don't have to 'climb' the walking stick to get up, have been sitting for a bit then walking a bit, going to walk down the garden tomorrow all being well, got to keep moving and hopefully get my fuschias in some pots, my friend potted up the clematis that came yesterday for me not big enough pots but will do for now. but am NOT going to anything else!!!
Thanks again you are all very kind and it cheered me up to read your good wishes
