New pond ;)

Well i have had a busy day in the garden moving an old pile of garden waste, i have a waste bit of garden between the shed and the garage where the old greenhouse used to be, there is rubble from the greenhouse and a lot of dandelions! I started to dig out the waste and move it into the old pond on top of the rubble already in there,

I was amazed at the amount of ‘froglets’ i saw plus some larger frogs then i started to feel guilty for taking away the old pond even though i knew it had to go as i can’t keep up with the garden these days and it had a hole somewhere in it. soooooooooooooooooo whilst sat in my garden chair Pats brain started to tick over and i remembered two old ‘panchions’ (earthenware mixing bowls) that had been my grandmothers, they have been outside every winter for a few years and never cracked so i decided to use one of them to make a little pond for the frogs! I dug a hole and set one of them in it put an old half of an earthenware pot in so things can escape and filled it with water.

I am planning on planting some annuals round it for shade and cover and hope the frogs appreciate it!! Maybe even get a dwarf water lily for it! What do you think?

I love your little pond, great Idea. When we moved to this house we had a swimming pool in the garden unused for many years and roots from trees were growing through it was home to frogs sadly we had to take it out. The frogs were re homed in our neighbour’s garden. My greenhouse stands where the pond used to be and if I have my big tray on the floor with pots standing in it you can guarantee before long I will find a frog in it.

Last year I had some small plastic containers on the side of the house, had meant to clean them out but never got around to it. They eventually filled with water and bullfrogs and green frogs began colonizing. Those are both highly aquatic species and I don't have a pond; there are ponds somewhere across the road that are visible on Google Earth but they are far for a little frog to go. Anyway, my point is that even these shallow pans of water were used & yours will be used as well, I'm sure.
