To tidy or not

Well after the fierce winds of the last few days, we walked around the garden this morning trying to guess what the day had in store for us: was it worth our while to pick up the debris or should we let the next winds blow it away.
I’ll get the lawnmower out, my husband said. See how it goes on from there.
The weather was kind to us. It stayed calm, slight cloud. Perfect day for a tidy up. We picked up broken stems, still with flowers on, some I could put in a vase but most had to go in the garden waste bin ready for the refuse collection on Monday morning.
Harry enjoys the front garden as he can sit and watch the world go by, but because the back garden is enclosed he sits with his nose under the back gate squinting through the gap. And no-one is able to walk by without having a word with him. He expects it.
The garden is tidy again now but not quite so full. But I shall leave it that way as late into the year as possible. I can’t bear to pull up plants. I found a dead root of a fushcia from last year in the Spring. Put it in a pot (with hope) and now it has green leaves on. No flowers, but next year, who knows!!

Westies are friendly little chaps aren't they?! Glad the weather wasn't too harsh on your garden.

I take it that Harry is not your husband! lol
I've pulled up a couple of bedding plants that are really past it but like you I shall try and keep summer going as long as possible. Winter months are so long.

I have just re-read my blog and if you didn't know who or what Harry is, it is misleading Lily2. We have just had a laugh about it. Arth said he is fed-up having to lie by the back gate sqinting through the gap trying to get the neighbours attention.

Well I did actually guess that Harry might just be your dog but it conjured up such an amusing picture imagining it to be hubby! Do you take him out on a lead too? lol

If my husband sat with his nose under the gate I'd probably have him certified!!...& then give him a Bonio!!

Did think about it Lily2, but Harry and I send him off to the golf course three mornings a week, so that we can get on with the serious business of walks and neighbourly visits where Harry has loads of fussing and I get cuppas.

Golf? now there's a thought. Maybe I should get hubby a set of golf clubs as an early retirement present. He might get the hint!
