got home from work about 12.30 had something to eat then decided to cut my conifer tree down, ive not been happy with it since the tree man chopped the top off after i asked him to trim it for me, it looked hidious and also was blocking the light from some of my new plants near the pond,
so armed with saw and choppers i cut off all branches then cut down one of the tree trunks, the second trunk i have kept as it makes a great washing line post and also i put the bird feeder back, ive planted a small passion flower against it in hope it will cover the trunk and look prettier,
After that i took my little salix which i wanted in the ground and planted it in front of the trunk which looks much better now, placed my acer near the pond and generally tidied about where the tree was, i think i made the right choice and i can now see my pond area from the house.
while sitting and enjoying the sun and peace the pigeons decided to come down and eat all the seed as usual, they didnt stop sqarking and fighting for ages as you will see in the pics ive taken, after the pics i broke up the sqabbling and enjoyed the peace once more ;o))
hope you all had a good day in the garden to

ive got mine and im out of here

I've had a good chuckle at the last pigeon photo - looks like he's falling off the feeder in a dead faint! Glad you've had a good day in the garden. Too cold to stay out for long here today and drizzly most of the day. Yuk!

Oh Sandra, so many Pigeons at once, I shoo them away even when there's only 1 as they eat so much bird seed ! Took Mum to a plant sale at a centre for disabled earlier, just before the drizzle began and bought a Grapevine for the pergola. Just need some sun to help it thrive now. You've worked very hard in your garden today with good results. : o ) )

8 May, 2010

thanx shirley and glad you had a good day to with your mum, bet she enjoyed it, hope your grapevine grows nicely to ;o))

8 May, 2010

I actually always hang my washing in the garage now Michaella! I am utterly convinced that if God sees me hang it outside he turns on the heavenly sprinkler for a laugh....I've always been the butt of his weather jokes!

Good idea regarding the conifer and as you say the trunk makes for a good post, if the passion flower does not work you could use a clematis, your pigeons are a rowdy bunch, thought ours were bad!! weather wet and very cold here....cannot believe it, snow forcast in Scotland!!! need to get our jungle plants in, want our garden room back... please.

8 May, 2010

Your garden looks wonderful Sandra. I really like the pebbles by your pond.
Sorry I couldn't look at the bird photos - they make me shudder lol

8 May, 2010

good photo's your garden looks really nice.

8 May, 2010

My day was spent in a less creative way Sandra. I set about our old garden shed with a sledge-hammer as it has been falling apart for years and I decided that now was the time to turn it to fire-wood as it doesn't owe us anytrhing. (It was here before we moved in). The elements had finally got to work on it and done their worst though, so it's goodbye shed & maybe hello to a new one sometime.
Your pigeon shots are very impressive. Nice blog!

8 May, 2010

Sanbaz all your plants look lovely and healthy

9 May, 2010

Lovely garden San!! I like the arch-topped fencing too, you've worked really hard and it's looking great! Blooming birds, we always seem to get the ones we don't want...Lol!

9 May, 2010

9 May, 2010

thanx donnah ;o)
cheers janey, i like the fence to which baz put up well before i came along, had to patch it up after some high winds in winter but still looks good,im sure with the pigeons and casper my little birds arent around quite as much which is sad, but ever faithfull robin still comes to see me ;o))
thankyou mavis i love my acer such a rich colour, my new tree will be in the lawn somewhere central just to break things up a bit, im going to stand it in different possitions when it comes, take pics then see where i like it best ;o))

9 May, 2010

all looking lovely sandra..... glad you had a good afternoon in the garden....

9 May, 2010

thankyou so much holly, not so nice today, cold and cloudy

9 May, 2010

same here....hope it warms up soon....

9 May, 2010

What a great idea to use the trunk of the tree as a support for a climber, and a passion flower to, it`ll look gorgeous. Oh dear, what naughty pigeons! I haven`t seen many this year thank goodness, apart from the odd wood pigeon and they are eating the seed the other birds have dropped on the ground. It certainly saves me the trouble of digging up the seeds that have taken root! :o)

9 May, 2010

You look to have a lot more room now that you have taken down the conifer Sandra-and you can see more of your pond. :-)

9 May, 2010

thanx sandra thats the good side they eat everything on the ground so nothing sprouts ;o))
richard it does seem to look like more room and i like the fact i can see more of the pond area now ;o)

9 May, 2010
