removing stumps for the new project part 2

hi guys as some may remember last year i decided to have two trees taken down as they were very old and leaning badly, also my lovely hubby had used this area for a dumping groung for rubble and soil which covered part of the trees around the bottom branches etc,
i have plans ready in my head for this area but sorry guys not telling, you will see it come together hopfully in spring,
my youngest is on half term this week from college so decided to make a start monday which i was very pleased, but my idea of a days work and his are two different things lol.
he didnt get up till lunchtime, then by the time he ate and got the tools out it was almost 2pm,
then at 3.30pm it started to rain so not alot got done as just moving the ground is hard enough before you get to the stumps,
so nothing yesterday as he had course work to do ;o(, dont get me wrong i want him to do well with A levels and make it to Aberdeen uni in septemember but i also want the stumps out for spring work,
anyway today my eldest said he would come and do some more work for me, so picked him up and he got to it,, i helped as much as i could but having bad wrists i find it hard to dig and pull heavy things,
so where did we get to,, after about 3 hours of digging cutting roots and ripping ivy and brambles out it didnt seem to be alot but at least its a start and i think my son did ok, as soon as we get the ground away and cut all the small branches and roots off we will hire a chain saw to cut through the heavy stumps, some have rotted which does make some lighter work.
do you ever wish you hadnt started something ,,, well this is one of them times beleive me!
joe my youngest will carry on tomorrow so little by little hope it gets sorted out,, this year would be nice though lol,
anyway here are a couple of pics just to show you whats going on, the robin kept coming down but sorry didnt have the camera out at that time, never mind he got some lovely grubs for his lunch and went away a happy birdy :o)
here you can see my son at work and whats comming out

so there we have it, hard work and wish i was able to get stuck in a bit more, our days arent the same as the young ones days are they, maybe you will see a difference by the end of march if we are lucky, but im not ungratefull and happy to be getting my lads to help, one good thing is the soil is lovely in this area as its had years of leaves rotting in there from the trees, so should make good planting, hope you all had a good day and plenty of sunshine like here in blackpool today :o)) x
by the way this is just the first stump there is another which is alot bigger Doh!

Oh,Sanbaz, you have certainly got some hard work there,Nice to have some help though.I'm sure it will be well worth it in the end.We had to cut an old cherry tree down,at my daughters new home last summer,as the roots have spread all under the lawn, and too near the house. We still have the "pleasure" of getting the
roots out,as we had to make a start on the inside,so they could move in.So,we will be doing that soon. The neighbours were pleased,as it was so big,it trailed on her washing, and blocked light on the other ones. Not really looking forward to it,but, like you,can only do so much.We have 2 strong men to help,so if you want to lend us yours as well, that would be great.Lol...will feed them, and we are only an hour from Blackpool.:o)))..Deal?

lol sandra, it is hard work and your right will be worth it, i dont have to worry about beep small roots as the ground will be deep and sloping so lots of depth for the plants im going to put there,, like i say the lads are good but try getting a full day out of them is another thing hahah :o)) i love trees but will be steering clear of anymore in this garden

17 Feb, 2010

Well you are getting there Sandra, and your lads are helping you, its when your sons have wives and partners that you dont get much help, its ok for them to do jobs for there wives mum, as thats differant, but for there own mum, well you have to wait and till they have some spare time.

17 Feb, 2010

Wow.....tough work, Sandra....

Don't forget some ivy can cause skin rashes.... I'm very allergic to ivy, and it invades by the bucket load from my neighbour's garden :o(
Looking forward to seeing your garden plans develop. x

17 Feb, 2010

Not fair! You've got sunshine for your gardening - it's damp and dreary here. I think you're doing a great job, all three of you, and I hope you do get it done and cleared ready for your plans. :-)))

17 Feb, 2010

i seem ok with the ivy but ive heard peeps are alergic to it, it one job im wearing gloves to do also with brambles around, :o) x

17 Feb, 2010

oops sorry barbara crossed over there, weve had a glorious day here warm and sunny most of the day, im determined to do this and even my plan im going to do myself, will only ask baz if i struggle with any digging, i just want to be able to say i did this! as soon as ground is clear we can get chain saw to cut through stumps then away i go getting soil fine and ready to plant etc :o))

17 Feb, 2010

Sandra .. please don't let your son do what ours did when he was helping us remove a stump when he was home for a weekend , he was loosening the earth with an axe and hit a mains electric cable , he didn't know what he had done until after he had gone home , they said he was very lucky not to have been electrocuted , also the electric went out in all the local shops , we didn't dare tell anybody it was our fault ... Oh .. I forgot to tell you that the hole was full of water that he had put in to soften the soil !!

17 Feb, 2010

thanx holly,, im a bit impatient really, i always want everything yesterday lol :o))
oh amy how awfull for you and so lucky no-one was hurt,, meaning your son or you, dont think any electric there, so think we should be ok, but will keep an eye on things now :o))

17 Feb, 2010

young johnny did a good job there for you san,its nice when they want to help ,my son 18 tmoz keeps saying he will help us on allotment but never gets there lol he would if we needed him to though, now dont be working joe too hard tomorrow, rotten weather here today ..cant wait to see what your plan is for that area and want to know why its a secret lol :o)

17 Feb, 2010

johnny is 24 joan but has problems but when ok he is a worker if you ask him, love him to bits, joe is 17 and also a good worker if you ask him, but being younger has other things to do to lol,
im keeping it a secret for two reasons, 1, just incase i change my mind lol and 2, i want it to be a total surprise for all my friends on here including you joan lol

17 Feb, 2010

aww thats sweet ,something for us all to look forward to :o))

17 Feb, 2010

17 Feb, 2010

That looks a big job, Sanbaz and it's good that you have sons to help (even if its not for a full day!). It is frustrating when we can't do things for ourselves - I get quite cross sometimes. Looking forward to seeing the end result - I love secrets :)

17 Feb, 2010

Oh, Sandra, you are so lucky to have such helpers! I'm sure this area will be beautiful in Spring...:) Looking forward to seeing pictures!
One more stamp is waiting for you. Good luck!
Never forget when my husband was digging out the old apple stamp, really wished we hadn't started doing that! LOL

19 Feb, 2010

lol uma, well once we do start it has to be finished doesnt it, hoping my son will continue today while nice, he just got up after saying he would get up early, so im very quiet and not saying a word, will just see if he goes out or stays and does some work :o(

19 Feb, 2010

I am the same as you Sanbaz my lads will help me but in their time and I am so impatient. Also my 19 year old is starting Aberdeen Uni in September so thats him out of the gardening for a while.

19 Feb, 2010

mavis my son going to aberdeen to, he cant wait either, a long way for us to pop over dont you think :o((

19 Feb, 2010

Exactly Sanbaz although I am chuffed to bits for him but why did he have to go all the way up there!. Is your son going to the open day next month ?thats going to bad enough, can you tell how much of an over anxious mam I am!

19 Feb, 2010

no dont think he is going, we took him there last year to see it all, think you can go to see about them going somewhere closer to home, a parent night, did you get letter about that mavis, im anxious to, joe will just be 18 at end of august and then goes away

19 Feb, 2010

You are naturally anxious about your Joe going to Uni,Sandra, thats being a caring mum.He will be absolutely fine, and you will be so proud of him, when you see him so independant, and enjoying all the new experiences of Uni life.Trouble is,with being a parent,we always think they can't cope,as we have always been there for them..and always will, but deep down they are still our children, but they get so much confidence and make new friends..and have lots of fun too...and sometimes they even revise and study ..ha ha..only joking..I think.A great opportunity for him Sandra, which you already know of course..x

19 Feb, 2010

sandra i know your right, joe is a good lad and isnt daft, he is so grown up, even when younger he was older if you know what i mean, im very proud of him,one of his friends is going to same uni so thats good, her dad knows people there and are trying to fix them up with a small flat which will be cheaper than accomadation at uni, he likes a tidy home and can cook, also his friend is a lovely girl who is just like joe, nothing in it, she is joes girlfriends friend, i will go see him when i can but being so far wont be to often and we can keep intouch on internet, i will do everything i can to help and make sure he can go to uni even if it takes everything i have :o))

19 Feb, 2010

It`s good to have strong sons to do the heavy work isn`t it Sandra, my Danny comes over from time to time to help his dad to do the really heavy stuff. Well done to your lad for getting that stump out, it must have been backbreaking.

Sandra x

19 Feb, 2010

We had the parents evening this week Sanbaz here in Newcastle ,and as Christopher had the opportunity and grades to attend uni here last year he chose not to and was advised to apply to Aberdeen and he was accepted without having to do resits. He is going into halls they are not too expensive and like you I will make sure he gets there he has worked so hard for this.

19 Feb, 2010

i hope chris does well mavis, whats he studying there? joe is doing archioligy lol cant spell it haha, he has taken Alevels in forensic science, im so proud and hope he passes them, dont see why not as he has kept getting great results :o)
sorry sandra almost missed you then, glad you have a good son to, we still have the stumps the get out yet, getting all the ground away has been awfull to say the least, my eldest is coming again monday so im pleased about that, getting closer to clearing it all each day, :o)) x

19 Feb, 2010

Christopher is doing philosophy I only got the spelling right as I keep a dictionary beside the computer. They do have to do so much hard work so it is great when their exams results turn out the way they want them to.We have had a tough five years but Christopher did not let that faze him he just kept on working at school.

19 Feb, 2010

well done to christopher, im sure he will carry on doing as well by what you say, joe is a very determined young man to, so with that i dont worry, i know he will always do his best, listen to us two, lol as proud as punch ;o)) we may end up meeting in aberdeen mavis lol

19 Feb, 2010

Graduation? wouldnt that be something!

20 Feb, 2010

oh yes it sure would mavis, how many years is christopher doing at aberdeen,, joe doing 4 years, one being abroad if he wishes

20 Feb, 2010

Hi Sanbaz sorry for the late reply it is hectic at home with four of them ,Christopher is doing the four years at the minute all just at Aberdeen. It looks to be a great uni so near to the beach as well( I am not sure if that is a good thing or bad)

20 Feb, 2010

no probs mavis i just got here to, thats great near beach, didnt get to see much as i was really ill when we took joe, couldnt walk or get out the car, it was just before i found out it was my gallbladder, never had such pain, all ok now and will look forward to having a good look round aberdeen next time :o) mind you does it get warm enough for the beach up there lol

20 Feb, 2010

I dont think they feel the cold like us, Christopher has been playing five a side a football today.I had my gallbladder removed about twenty years ago the pain is realy bad.

20 Feb, 2010

no they dont feel the cold like us, when we had the snow at xmas and couldnt get car out, joe got his shorts and sweatshirt on and jogged to his dads which is about a 15 min drive from here, backpack on his back and away he went, made me feel cold thinking about it lol, anyway i hope both pour boys do well at aberdeen mavis, seems they both work hard and deserve it all :o))

21 Feb, 2010

Sanbaz and Mavis...You will be both bursting with pride when your sons graduate....of course.I know how we felt when Alison got her degree in Geography,no feeling likeit, when they are being presented with it.It really angers me,when every year ,its said that its getting too easy. That will never be so,when you know how hard they study to get that far.I hate how they put the young ones down so much..They certainly don't get it handed to them on a plate.......and its something that can never be taken away from them, whatever they decide to do
in the future...good luck to them all..:o))

21 Feb, 2010

thankyou sandra and your right all kids that go on to college and uni work very hard and i get mad to when i see it in paper or on news saying how easy it is grrr , thanx again x

21 Feb, 2010

Graduation ceremony is a wonderful occasion ! Our daughter has a degree in English and has just gained her Masters. She had 3 jobs on the go at one time during her studies, 7am start on one so I really do know how hard some students have to work just to exist. She is still searching for her desired job as a Librarian and has an office job right now. Best wishes to your sons.

21 Feb, 2010

thanx megan your daughter did so well holding down 3 jobs to get through uni, hope she gets the job she deserves ;o))

21 Feb, 2010

Thanks Sanbaz, the trouble is having so many applicants for so few jobs. She worked in a bookshop (of course), a Disney store and did some bar work occasionaly.

21 Feb, 2010

thats the problem, joe has been looking for work since he left school while at college but nothing, either no experience or to brainy, cant win, anyway he may have work at the pleasure beach for holidays to get some money together for uni, i do hope so for his sake, going out for dinner now so catch up later x

21 Feb, 2010

Enjoy your meal.

21 Feb, 2010
