hi peeps after almost a week of not doing anything and recovering from my op, ive been wishing something exciting might happen, you know win the lottery or something like that, nah it would be nice but money doesnt always bring happiness
anyway i was sat outside this morning getting some autumn air and having a cuppa and a ciggie,, yes yes i know its bad for me and i do keep trying to kick the habbit but ive not been well, i need something guys lol
well i was watching the bluetits, dunocks and starlings happily flying around and feeding in my garden when i looked up at the sycamore shedding leaves everywhere, thinking,,“i need to sweep but i cant yet” god it gets me down not doing my garden, then i saw him woohooo,,
i jumped, well i hobbled to the house and grabbed my camera, thinking “come on load you stupid thing” takes ages when you are in a hurry doesnt it,
anyway my beautifull visitor was happy in the tree pecking away " yes pecking"
i remember telling baz early spring i had seen this chap but he said dont be daft dont get them round here,, haha he was wrong, woody was alive and living in staining village and in my garden pecking my sycamore" wish he would peck a bit harder and chop the damn tree down" lol
so without keeping you in surspence any longer, “drum roll”
here`s woody

isnt he wonderfull, bet you think im mad but he`s one of my favourite birds and this is very exciting for me

wish i could have gotten closer but i may have burst a stitch lol, cant move to fast, but im so glad i had this lovely bird in my garden , thanx for looking guys xx

What great photo's Sanbaz. I would have been ecstatic to see a Woodpecker in the garden, no wonder you had to get out and take photo's.
I'm glad you are recovering, but I didn't know you had had an op. All the best.

15 Oct, 2009

Briliant San know just how you feel I was so excited when I had a male and female visitig for about three, always knew when they were on the way by their cries, hope yours continue to visit they love fat balls, pleased to hear you are slowly recovering, just take your time and dont try to do too much!

15 Oct, 2009

Great pic Sanbaz what a treat - dont think I have ever seen one.

15 Oct, 2009

thankyou mad yes recovering from gallbladder op but doing great thanx, glad you like woody :o))
cheers carole i will be on the look out for him now, need to get some more fat balls when i can get out, baz went for the seed but forgot the fatballs lol, got a couple of jobs for joe when he`s home from college, just a few seedlings need potting on and a couple of plants :o))
thanks Drc this year was the first time i had seen one in the flesh so to speak, wonderfull colours :o)

15 Oct, 2009

He he you can now show evidence to Baz men huh lol , lovely blog and great pictures of the little fellow, he's got such a cute little face too, can see why they are you favourite, I know how you feel about the tree I have one overhanging my garden from the church and you don't only get the leaves but the seeds too which every spring have to pick out less I would end up with a forest for a garden. Get yourself a leaf blower to suck them up, thats what I m going to do.

15 Oct, 2009

glad you enjoyed the blog morgana, isnt he cute,, and think your right about the leaf blower, may invest in one, and seeds,, its a nightmare isnt it picking them out all over the place.

15 Oct, 2009

It is I have got about 12 trees to clean up after from the church yard both back and front, so I think I will now get a blower as my kids don't like gardening.

15 Oct, 2009

glad i dont have all them trees morgana, enough with 4 of them lol

15 Oct, 2009

amy
Amy

Fantastic Sandra , we can hear them in the trees on the other side of the field but have only once seen one in the garden .. keep resting , you will get better quicker , I'm pleased that something exciting happened to cheer you up :o)

15 Oct, 2009

thanx amy, im being good today, in bed watching tv and on here while baz paints the lounge :o))

15 Oct, 2009

:o) yes I think your right as I have 7 black bags just from the sweepings of my back path sitting on the patio and this is just the start there are loads left on the trees, can't empty them into the bin as that is full of the previous leaves have to wait till they empty the bin now, I know Spritz said keep for leaf compost but I would nt see my garden for bags as its only small, I will only keep a few .

15 Oct, 2009

was going to say about the black gold lol, at least you can keep some, the bins do fill very quickly dont they, im waiting for mine to be emptied, takes a day to fill them 2 weeks to wait grrr

15 Oct, 2009

Well done on getting the Woody shots Sandra. Whenever one comes to my garden, it's off like a shot at the slightest movement, even from indoors. Just what the Doc ordered eh? Hope you'll be up and 'running' soon. x

15 Oct, 2009

Yes then here we have now 3 bins one to put recycle stuff in and we have to wash all containers bottles cans etc out wasting water, they say enviromentaly freindly wasting water ugh . then from Novemeber on wards to April they dont empty the compost bins what a laugh,

15 Oct, 2009

I wash the recycling stuff at the end of the normal washing up Morgana. I do use a dishwasher but there's always a few bits that need hand washing and worktops to be washed over so I do that once a day plus the plastics/cans etc so same water gets even more use!!

15 Oct, 2009

thanx lily yes soon be running lol
we still get our composs bins emptied all year morgana, so they are saying you shouldnt do garden in them months,, joke, we are surpose to wash out bottles etc but i dont and wont, why should we its their job to do this not ours, what do they get paid for,,

15 Oct, 2009

Thank you Lily2 for that, goodness knows how much washing up a family of 6 would have then lol.I wish I had a milk man like years ago where it was in bottles and they came and rewashed and recycled, I think we have gone back wards not forewards, not packaging like to day, more rats rome our street which they no longer can kill through fast food outlets with people dumping their left overs on the streets. I am pleased I try and buy my food like my mum use to fresh and cooked not ready made micro wave meals with all this packageing, which increases you to put the weight on, as proven on a tv programe.

15 Oct, 2009

im like you morgana i buy fresh never prepacked meals i hate them, home cooking in this house ;o))

15 Oct, 2009

Brill photo and blog, just be carefull what your doing.

15 Oct, 2009

It works out cheaper to Sandra don't need to re top up on sauces etc I eat a lot of fish more than meat, I got 3lb of belly pork which will last me 5 days, 3 days of liver then I buy now and do a welsh lamb strew which will last me 5 days in summer I alter this with salad , then I buy pack of 4 salmon 12 fish in batter, mince which I get 8 lots of dinners out of 2 chicargo pittzas which altogether comes to 25 00 which last me over a month then all I have to do is add veg and potatoes.

15 Oct, 2009

thats good morgana, i try to save on food but its all so expensive, even tesco and asda arent cheap anymore, we eat alot of fish and chicken, not alot of red meat not good for my tum, i love fresh veg and salads, also pasta, where do you shop for meat and fish

15 Oct, 2009

I normally get it off a meat van which I know its all british meat called D&R meats, they have wagons go all over the place even travel up north from here to, the go on the carboots , you could get a large box of bacon for 1.00 or a large pork roll joint and 20 pork boneless chops for 15.00 packs of cumbrian sausage about 12 sausages for 1.00 I got 12 lamb chops, half of pork roll joint 2 packets of bacon I large beef joint and packet of cumbrian sausage and 10 pork chops for 20.00 once, I just split between me and my kids. for a 5.00 you can get a carry a bag full of chicken legs there is about 20 in a bag.

15 Oct, 2009

oh yes we get one of them vans here morgana, is the meat good then, ive never bourght of him but thought about it lots of times, seems really cheep to, i watch him at work when at the carboot

15 Oct, 2009

Depends who it is I stick to D&R meats as I know of the bloke who owns it.my x boyfriends son use to work the vans and cut the meats he's pally with the bloke who owns it.

15 Oct, 2009

i will check it out when better, thanx morgana :o)

15 Oct, 2009

You will soon see how good their meats are look out for regulars see if they come back each week to buy or ask one who is buying the meats they will tell you, I always ask if it british meat a lot is as I wont buy foreign meat as they don't hang their cattle long enough, so if you see red meat and its really red you know its foreign like up in leeds butches our meat should look pale, if you push your finger in a joint of meat and it spings back its fresh if it leaves a dent its old meat.

15 Oct, 2009

ok thanx morgana i wouldnt have known that,, cheers :o)

15 Oct, 2009

Your welcome:o) neither did I a old woman in Bradford meat market once when I was visiting my daughter was pokeing the meat, me I ll talk to any one, so I said what are you pokeing the meat for, she replied to see if its fresh and told which was which in new and old meat, my mother told me about the red in meat as I commented in Leeds market how red the mince was she said don't touch it its forigein and explained they don't hang their meat as long as we do, and it makes better tasteing, instead of all the blood still in side it.

15 Oct, 2009

Lovely blog Sandra, I'm thrilled he came along. I bet he was eating bugs off the tree. I hope he returns soon.

15 Oct, 2009

Yes Sandra, you'd better not climb Sycamore trees this early in your recovery.....Well perhaps just to halfway to get a closer shot of Woody!!!!! Mind you, I think we'd be more amused byb the picture of you shinning up a Sycamore!!! Tell Baz to get the camera out!!

15 Oct, 2009

guess it makes sence morgana, just shows we should always listen to mum :o))
thanx dawn yes joe asked why they peck at trees and i thought it was for bugs, cant think of any other reason can you :o)
lol paul it wouldnt be the first time ive climbed up one, in my last house myself and a neighbour(woman) cut down a sycamore on our own it was about 20ft or more in height, hard work but we couldnt afford a tree surgeon, mind you we had to repair the neighbours shed roof as we miss judged a branch which fell through oops lol, :o))

15 Oct, 2009

When they are making a nest in a dead tree they 'drum' - like a vibrating pecking but I dont think your's was doing that, lol.

15 Oct, 2009

Timber!!!!!!!!!!! Well done Sandra(and neighbour), I don't think I'd be brave enough to try! GALMI (Get a little man in!)

15 Oct, 2009

no it seemed like it was pecking for bugs dawn lol
lol paul, like i said never again :o)

15 Oct, 2009

I always thought they drum to make holes but I've since been told it's to attract a mate & the females do it too!!

How fab to get those shots Sandra...brilliant! Hope you're recovering well & taking it easy.xx

15 Oct, 2009

thanx for the info fluff i did wonder what the drumming holes was about, makes sence doesnt it, mind you think they would have a headache after that, lol
im doing ok fluff but keep getting told off for trying to do things :o(

15 Oct, 2009

Wood peckers drum on trees for communication, they peck the trees to get the termites for food, they make holes in order for them to house their young, home this tells you a bit about them.

15 Oct, 2009

You haven't been listening to Aunty Fluff then have you Sandra?! LOL!!
Thanks Morgana...I love woodpeckers!

15 Oct, 2009

amazing isnt it, must have very strong beaks to do this, wonderfull, thanx morgana :o)
lol sorry auntie fluff, i will behave tomorrow i promise :o)

15 Oct, 2009

Your both welcome maybe if it produces a hole you will have little ones in it.

15 Oct, 2009

I found it really annoying when I was working the last 2 weeks - before this week off - as I did 6 day weks and was coming home knacked and not doing much at all.

Will probably be same over November and December but I'll find a few minutes here and there to keep up to date.

Glad you're getting there!
